  1. You mean the same guy who DIRECTLY COST HIS TEAM 3 GOALS THROUGH BASIC ERRORS just off the top of my head? The same guy who fluffed basic 25-30 metre passes under no pressure? The same guy who fumbled bouncing and ran straight into a guy probably half his size and got pwned? Yeah, that guy!

He didnt need to dominate? He didnt because he's not good enough. If he's a #1 pick he should be at least in the top few players on the ground and having a big positive impact for his team. He did neither. If we're going to have #1 pick, I want a guaranteed star, not a speculative superstar. We probably wont have another #1 pick for over 10 years again. Best make good use of it and pick someone who is going to be a guaranteed star. No doubting he is an athletic freak and COULD be something special. BUT, in my opinion he doesnt look like he has the smarts to put it all together. He struggles with the basics and doesnt have footy smarts. He's an athlete, not a footballer. I dont think it's worth the risk personally.

Hopefully we manage to poach Warnock, and then take Watts. Then we'll have got ourselves a gun young ruckman and gun forward in one hit.

You've based your opinion on one game. Have you seen any other games he has played this season? Perhaps in the WAFL? Statements like "He didn't becasue he's not good enough" are naive and borderline moronic.

  2. Watching the 1st Qtr of VIc Metro - WA has made it painful....

Who do we take with our pick assuming its #1

Natanui - Looks a giant and has so much scop

Rich - Looks classey and has pace, gemuine ball magnet

Watts - Looks damaging up forward with a beautiful kick, a genuine KPP

We will get a gun player regardless but it so hard to decide......

So much will depend on Robbie Warnock....

Other gun players i noticed form the earlier games were Hamish Hartlett from SA (Resembled Simon Black with his disposal)

and #11 from Tassie look classy. a 6 foot genuine midfeilder with great disposal and ball winning ability.......

It's a painful conundrum but a welcome one none the less.

  3. I quickly added up all of the clubs Rising stor nomination since 2004:

Melbourne 11 (included in there is Moloney who got the nod while playing for geelong)

    Brisbane 10

    West Coast 9

    Collingwood 8

    Port Adelaide 8

    Richmond 8

    Carlton 7

    Geelong 6

    Hawthorn 6

    Western Bulldogs 6

    Essendon 5

    North Melbourne 4

    Fremantle 3

    Sydney 2

    Adelaide 2

    StKilda 1

Now this either means that we have an exciting future ahead OR the rising star nomination means didley.

Either way you would rather have more of them than less and we're on the top of the ladder!!!

    Neat!

  4. yeah i realise that. but he hasnt played a full season yet and everyone is ear marking him as a 10 year KPD and a future AA.

I absolutley agree, but I am not one of those people. Thus far he has entrenched himself as a key player in our defensive line. Lets hope that he futher cements his spot.

  5. funny that. garland has still only played 13 games...

Don't be flippant. All I am suggesting is that he has been given all season THUS FAR to proove himself and as of this point he has not failed in doing so.

  6. Bode is saved by 2 forced changes to a winning team. He must make some sort of impact this week with Petterd almost ready.

Absolutley agree. His time is now. The next 2 or 3 weeks are going to be so important for him for his career aspirations.

  7. I hope you're right, but I reckon the markers will look more favourably on the attacking midfielders like Palmer. It's no criticism of Colin, and I reckon he's as important to our side as any of those other guys are to theirs. Just the way I think it'll pan out.

Palmer better watch out. Wona is on his tail. If he kicks forty goals by the end of the year he's in with a big chance. He could even be our leading goalkicker by the end of the year. Who would have thunk it?

  8. Bell has always had issues with decision making under pressure and his lack of peripheral vision has plagued him as a footballer all through his career. He is at the cross roads.

Yes, and this has even been even more evident since the incident.

I think sometimes we underestimate what freaks these AFL Footballers really are in the areas of split-second decision making and peripheral vision on ground level coupled with the speed of the game.

I would absolutley s^!t myself out there.

  9. We do know exactly what Davey did. Connolly stated this morning that he was given permission to attend a funeral. Davey admitted after the Brisbane game, that he had a few drinks and as a result, missed a 6.00am flight the following morning. Missing the flight resulted in him being late in attendance for a club engagement (Connolly didn't say if it was training).

If Davey hadn't owned up to the fact that it was his drinking that caused him to miss the flight, the club would be none the wiser. It begs the question, would Davey have owned up if he hadn't recently been appointed to the leadership group.

But they would have been wise to it because regardless of whether he was drinking or not he still missed the flight and was still late as a result.

Under the old regime then no, he probably wouldn't have mentioned anything, regardless of whether he was in the leadership group or not. However under the current regime I am sure he would have owned up regardless of his presence in the leadership group or not, and this is quite heartening as it is apparent that the winds of cultural change are blowing a gale.

  10. In: Morton, Frawley

    Out: McLean, Davey

As much as i love Garland as key backman and look forward to seeing him there in the future years, this could be a good game to experiment with Garland down forward or on a wing/HF.

I understand what your saying but looking at how horribly wrong the Miller Experiment went I would be loathe to try this.

  11. Spot on. When asked about the suspension on SEN this morning, Chris Connolly made the point that "Where we are as a club at the moment, the suspension was appropriate". He also mentioned that any penalty has to be endorsed by the football department.

Reading between the lines, if we were contending for a finals position, Davey wouldn't be suspended.

I read between the lines another way. "Where we are as a club" does not necessarily mean where we are placed on the ladder. I take it as a comment on where there club is it culturally, regarding things such as discipline, expectations and application.

  12. Belly has copped some very large bumps around the Head area in his Career if you remember I think he may be a little Hesitant this together with a lack of form has contributed to his present state I watched him last Sunday and it appears he is trying too hard I would like to see him play on a wing to allow him more space he has heaps of talent and I talked to Kelly OD about him he has the admiration and full confidence of the coaching staff I agree he can really play lets hope it is soon

I agree. He hasn't been right since the Ben Johnson incident. That hit knocked him for more than six. He's been second guessing constantly and seems seems more unsure of what to do prior to the incident. His application is there, I just think his head isn't.

  13. I suppose him being removed from the leadership group is tanking as well. Give me a break. He missed a flight and is being punished like a naughty boy. The question is `will the leadership group still make these decisions when we are back in the eight and the four points counts ??

I would like to think so. We've had a 'boys club culture' for far too long. Players holding places on names alone and too many pats on the back.
