  1. Incorrect. Its not being harsh and unrealistic at all. It is a fact.

I don't believe that is entirely the reason. The FACTS are:

    1. Geelong ran harder than us all night

    2. They had a FAR superior game plan and accountabilty and discipline to that game plan.

    3. Vastly superior experience and age

    4. Vastly superior weight and muscle ratio

    5. Vastly superior skills

    6. As a result...It was like the players were trapped in Ashcombe maze for two hours

    =116 point loss.

  2. Winning more games in the short term is not going to happen. J.Brown is a short term fix and would not automatically ensure winning more games either.

Apart from winning one of the bigger issues is WHY he has no interest in joing our club. Does he find our organistion as a whole laughable? Our supporters? The strength of our list? Our facilties? Or all of the above?

  3. How does Geelong being a good side physically stop players from running to make space? It doesn't.

It's not all that black and white. Geelong's positioning all night was perfect. A lot of the time there simply wasn't the space to run too. When a player has the ball and waits more than 5 seconds to move it on Geelong nullified any sort space that we could run into.

  4. However, he has come out and said that he does not want to go to Melbourne, under any circumstances

This is what it comes down to. I appreciate the hypothetical but it's unthinkable that this will occur. The two main reasons are:

    1. There is no way he would walk for free. He is a champion of the club and claims to be a staunch loyalist. If the situation became untenable and say Collingwood offered something too good to refuse then he would insure that something along the lines of say 1st and 2nd round pick and Didak for Brown came the Lions way. The only club he would entertain is Collingwood or possibly Carlton. I have no idea what Carlton will do cap wise with Judd and Brown in a couple of years time seeing as though Murphy and Gibbs' next contract would no doubt be worth at least $400,000.

    2. As already stated he does not want to play for Melbourne and the club with their actions have stated he is not a wanted player. But this is already a non-issue as there is no way he will walk.

  5. ^^^^^

Damn no chance of seeing him make his debut this year....

That's ok though. I only wanted to see him if he was going to get a run of games much like Maric now. There is little point in putting him in for one game. From appreances it looks as though they are going about this the right way. Playing him at Sandy 1st's for maybe 2 or 3 games then building up for a big pre-season. Would not be surprised if he debuted in Round 1 next year if he has a fantastic pre-season and NAB Cup.

  6. I think a trade for someone like Michael Newton might be thing. Both players have had their injury problems this year and would be looking for new environments to reinvigorate their respective careers.

I can't see the club wanting Newton to leave. You only have to look at the selected side this week to see why. Despite his apparent shortcomings at this stage in time we really don't have any KPP's. He is still young. I'd like to see him have an awesome pre-season and a shot next year.

  7. Geez we missed him yesterday. I understand we had a hell of a lot of other key players out yesterday. But it was blaringly obvious how important he is to our structure. He is one of our few talented leading half forwards who creates so much structure to our forward line. His linking play and an nouse of where to go and when was sorely missed yesterday.

By the way, I am perplexed as to our constant need to get the ball back into the centre square at all costs. Did anyone notice yesterday when we had the ball in the defensive 50 and North had ALL of their players zoning together in the middle of the ground. The ball went out of bounds on the wing and we had 5 of our players at our half forward line with no opponents. Why would we keep trying to put the ball back into the centre sqaure when there were always 12-15 north players firmly entrenched in it?

  8. But I would love Maric to get a few games before the season is out, not sure at the expense of who from that interchange

Don't know. But Maric has been knocking on the door. He had 31 touches, 8 marks and 1 goal last weekened.

  9. MELBOURNE

Backs Matthew Whelan Nathan Carroll Jared Rivers

Half Backs Paul Wheatley Brad Miller Daniel Bell

Centreline Brad Green Brock McLean Clint Bartram

Half Forwards Cameron Bruce Russell Robertson Colin Sylvia

Forwards Aaron Davey David Neitz Austin Wonaeamirri

Followers Jeff White James McDonald Nathan Jones

Interchange Mark Jamar Chris Johnson Lynden Dunn Cale Morton

Emergencies James Frawley Colin Garland Brent Moloney

    In Whelan Jamar

Out Colin Garland (omitted) Paul Johnson (hand)

That's such a joke. That's close to our best team and we got absolutely flogged. Disgrace.

  10. Youre kidding arent you.. This is supposed to be a long haul psoition where you dont make decisions in a fluster. How do you know he hadnt ideas in the planning..but were being costed , verified etc. Your comment is ludicrous

The way the club has been travelling we don't have the option of the 'long haul'. Of course I don't know what his plans where, but the simple fact of the matter is that we haven't heard of any them and if there were any 'grand plans' Jimmy obviously didn't rate any of them.

  11. mate...I am fairly entitled to voice my disgust at the way things have been going. The style of managment at MFC in recent times makes any voting participation in this club moot. You may not consider that an impoprtant element of membership but I do. I dont expect to be involved in everyday events.. but the ursuping of a Chairman..and the wholesale sacking of the clubs CEO..arent everyday. You seriously think someone who can run the Aussie Open has no clue ??

This is all about personalities and 'behind closed door" politiicking . I though this club had grown up from this.

Name one initiative, ONE, that McNamee has announced since his arrival other than "I think we should go back to our elite roots'.

  12. Its a slur on unsung heroes that are hard workers like Gallagher etc dont "bleed for the jumper" like players who are animated and extroverts. Its bull.

Saunts is a VFL hack that has benefitted from the largesse of VFL competent MFC players that have given him great use of the footy. He is expert at the easy receive possession and the first person to ignore a player by hand or foot in a better position sometimes to the detriment of the side.

In the case of Hall, Fev and Richo where there selfishness or frustration goes overboard (and it does too often) it has been incredibly destructive to the team.

Given where Newton is the last thing we need him to do is master Saunts selfishness and short cuts. You can do it at VFL. You cant at AFL. And its not as if Saunts would mentor anyone outside fulfilling his own needs.

    1. You seem to have made your mind up on this but once again I disagree. His interaction with Maric and the like from what I have seen on numerous occasions were positive and constructive.

    2. He's a full forward and he's still a solid VFL player. Their forward structure is centrered around him. Easy receive possession? During ther Willy game a couple of weeks ago he was fantastic, took about 5 or 6 beautiful contested marks on a top Williamstown defender.

    3. True Fev and Richo, however the latter is now reformed. Sydney won a flag. I wish we had a culture like theirs.

    4. Sautner can play below his knees and jump into the contest whenever he can when the ball is in dispute. Where did it say that Sautner is contracturally obliged to mentor Newton? He's paid to kick goals for a footy team that is not the Melbourne reserves.
