  1. Delusional thinking.

Lyon has turned the shockers into a SEPTEMBER CLUB.

Lyon has had 2 coaching stints

Both with mature lists he has merely refreshed

Both lists had some very top line talent

He has never built a list from ground up as ours needs

Yes he instills work ethic / cultural changes (much the same as Neeld is trying to achieve), however we have no idea what he is like building a list from scratch

Some of his recruiting has been terrible

Either way, reports are Lyon sounded him out

We didn't get him, Neeld seems on the right track, let's just see how it plays out

  2. Neeld had the opportunity to let Bate go to the dogs for a good draft pick, but chose to keep him. I dont buy into the idea that Neeld had little idea of the playing list. He came into the club eyes wide open and according some one on this site he regrets his choice not cull last year. He thought he could develop Bate into a midfielder and couldnt and didnt. A bad decision from Neeld here. Whats to say he will get it right. Not all his decisions will be right but he needs to get alot of decisions right for this club to turn around

I support Neeld but remain a sceptic until tangible results are provided. The opposite has occurred and Im a little worried about the clubs direction.

He kept Bate for 1 year to try and turn him around, all whilst making his assessment of the entire list.

He cut few and wanted to see what he had to work with

With the return we were getting from Footscray, it was worth the risk in an assessment year and didn't work.

No one is saying Neeld WILL succeed. People who support Neeld are merely confident of his approach

  3. Gee we seem to conveniently forget, from when Bailey took over till he left, so had 21 players.....is that enough for you?

Yet another post to start bashing all and sundry

I am all for change, so bring it on, just don't bang on about it or the past

    Look forward

Yeah but Bailey took the safe option, retiring verterans who were finished (whether they knew it or not) and cutting clear spuds (or helping some guys retire who's injuries were getting in the way - i.e. Wheatley and Whelan)

Look at the list of players Bailey "culled". Anyone would've shaved them off the list

His big move was trading Travis Johnstone who should've been traded years earlier

Neeld isn't afraid to cut non performers / non buy ins early on, so they're not considered list cloggers and dead wood in 4 years

  4. Yet another wasted high pick. That's Scully, Cook, Gysberts, Maric to go with Morton, Bate and Dunn

I'd hate to see a list of players who were picked after this bunch of spuds

    No. No you wouldn't

Edit: Oops misread hate as like

In that case, yes, yes you would

  5. When did he ever have value?

    More principle than fact.....

Tex you have my 100% support. Neeld is the greatest mistake this club has made since sacking Norm Smith. The spotlight should not be on our players, rather it should be on our coach. He must be sacked, this is a disaster.

Yeah yeah yeah. Let's not put the spotlight on our precious players. Let's not put the spotlight on the perennial underperformers. Let's not put the spotlight on the downhill skiiers. Let's not put the spotlight on those who cancel training sessions. Let's not put the spotlight on those that crack up because our club finally has AFL standard training and they think it's too hard.

Let's instead put the spotlight on a first year coach who came from a flag winning club where he was directly responsible for one of the best midfields of the modern game, who pointed out the massive and long standing flaws with our club and will put his neck and career on the line to change them.

    Yeah, ok. Sensible outlook

  6. This is what is doing my head in....There is common concensus " we got our drafting wrong". Then why are there so manyposts "how could we get rid off......"

    Just doesnt make sense.

    I agree

The people saying cutting Cook is the wrong move are the same people that say we waited too long to pull the trigger on blokes like Bate

If Cook was still on the list in 4 years time, they'd probably say "we should've traded him when he had some value"

  7. http://www.sportsnew...ers-demon-move/

I know its from sports new first, but Angus Monfries.. Really LOL? Didn't see this one coming if true

What's more interesting (taking it with a grain of salt as it's SNF) is this line: The Demons are believed to have secured a handy small forward with crucial opportunist goal kicking as a serious appeal and are waiting for a chance to announce their new signing.

On the others, Monfries AND Pearce, two soft players, I'd be surprised honestly if they were the sort Neeld would be after

  8. Allen Jakovich is close to the mark, however Neeld at no stage requested he "lose" weight, rather, he get his core strength and muscle tone to a satisfactory level whilst increasing his endurance thus giving him the ability to run both ways.

Let's just say the word leaking from the club is that Jordan simpy doesn't want it bad enough and at his post season interview and medical examinations he was given some brutal home truths that have left him shocked and considering his tenure at the club.

If that's the case, and he can't handle home truths, then we're better off without him

  9. Melbourne's DRAFTING is not the issue.

    Its development is.

    It's both

Gysberts was told by Bailey to put on weight. He was told by Neeld to loose it. This is not a rumour.

I still think it is the right decision to offload him, however.

Can't believe that. Why would Neeld tell a kid who needs to gain approx. 8kgs that he needed to lose weight?

  10. Its one way to sort them all out hey !!

Neeld said from the outset he wasnt interested in words but only in actions. He would judge all by their actions. Some have made it ridiculously easy as the year progressed ^_^

I just find it infurating that we as a club have been [censored] for 50 years.

We have had a culture of the tail wagging the dog.

We've held on to "potential" for 2 seasons to long until it's untradeable.

We've maintained the status quo for so bloody long.

We've accepted players so they can earn their super.

    We've drafted poorly.

    We've developed poorly.

Finally we get a coaching team, all from elite environments, who can spot the shoulda-nevas, gunna-nevas etc. and will make the ballsy decision to clear them, and somehow it's their fault.

The players Neeld wants have all bought in and re-signed.

The rest are weak and have always been weak. And they can [censored] off

I no longer care who is kept / cut / traded.

Our current crop certainly have nothing to hang their hats on

  11. I think de-listing players or putting them on trade table early is a stroke of genius.

No other clubs are doing it so it putting us ahead of the pack. Managers can go shopping for them already and get value for players we would have thought previously untradeable such as Cook.

Ideally the players managers are doing alott of work for us as they want to look after the players and by doing that it would be to find a suitable home with a suitable trade scenario that works both ways.

Other teams know whats on the table now so they can formulate their own scenarios around these plays in order to secure them without any other team having players on the table yet.

The rumors players are unhappy is probably true, hell id be pretty unhappy if i was about to be sacked to.

What I find funny is the players who are happy and are putting in / buying in have all re-signed.

The ones rumoured to be unhappy with Neeld are all of the ones who don't seem to want to put in

  12. I think Dunn is a must keep. He goes hard, gives 100% is a lovely kick and would be in our best 22 if he was just let to settle in one position. His value as a utility is significant. He is experianced in playing almost every position on the field outside of ruck.... and I think he even played 2nd ruck once last year. I would be shocked if Dunn did not get a new contract.

    Sellar probably deserves a 1 - 2 year contract.

Rivers is a must keep, but one hears he is walking out due to the coach.

Struass deserves a new contract after coming back from a terrible injury.

A case can be put forward to keep a couple of others on this list, but please remember we will also lose a number of contracted players who ask to be traded.

It has NOTHING to do with the coach and everything to do with success

But keep pushing your baseless anti-Neeld barrow

  13. Neeld comes from a club with an elite regime

He knows what it takes to be the best

The players wanting out simply don't have the desire to be the best

They'd prefer to be comfortable and not be worked too hard

We re-sign Petterd - he does SFA for 2 years, the same guys bagging Neeld now would question why the club didn't cut him or trade him whilst he had SOME value

  14. And this is what really intrigues me as to who is in the crosshairs currently for recruitment. That was all done on the run, this time round we have a different FD with different views and having had a good year to prepare. it bodes well ( for mine )

Well if the reports are to be believed, we offered a large contract to MacKay from the Crows.

One certainly from left field, but must fit the profile they're looking for
