  1. I am prepared to be patient, but I feel the list is already (i.e. without the incoming draftees) showing signs of heading in the right direction. Hawthorn showed last year that sometimes sucess is closer than most people think. There is at least plenty of real reasons to hope for sucess, rather than the blind and mis-guided hope we have had to settle for in recent years. The taste is definetely there.

I want to taste it. I sick of honourable losses, good efforts, not reading newspapers for the negative press, the tanking issue, only really being interested in Casey and the progression of our kids, and so forth.

And hopefully and with a bit of luck, the TASTE OF SUCCESS out of the Premiership cup!

  2. I still think there are a couple of holes to be filled.....but the shackles will be off and I'm sure the players will be keen to atone for a miserable 2 years after some development together.

However there is still some development to go. So, don't be too disappointed if we don't get the results you want early on in 2010.

I agree, but no more excuses, no more mediocrity, it won’t happen overnight (I wish) but it has to happen!

  3. Well what a year, no 2 years. From the beginning of the year our expectations were so high, and then by round 10 we were already looking at draft picks. Now that has happened, and we have lived though possibly the worst 2 years I want to remember, we need to forget the past. We now need “THE TASTE OF SUCCESS!”

We will have little or no excuses, as I recall there was a post recently showing with this year’s draft picks, we will have 16 players who were picks in the top 21 over the past few years. Only the Saints, Blue’s and the dawks, can boast picks like these in recent times.

So Jimmy, Bail’s Swaby, Chris C and all the guys behind the scenes it now up to you to give us long suffering Demon supporters the “THE TASTE OF SUCCESS” we want, we need, no we now demand.

You have the supporters, our debt is diminishing, we will have the players, and we have the best president.

    What is stopping us!!

    Go D’s 2010 and beyond!

  4. With the confirmed departures of Wheels, Wheats, and Robbo, and now rumors of PJ, Barts, Miller and Newton, boy they were basically the back bone of our team last year.

Well no time to be sentimental. i suppose you have to look at all the players on the list and ask yourself, are you good enough to be part of a premiership team, or even more so to be a premeriership player!

  5. #1 Scully

Without going trough all the previous draft, are there any other clubs that would have anything as good, and if they do, obviously, their return is far better!

Don't forget round 18 for this year too!

With 16 players in the top 21 over a few years we should expect something!

  7. I don't normally like to comment / pick on people's votes as I know they're completely subjective, but I can only assume your omission of Jamar was just an oversight. I find it very hard to believe that someone could kick 5 goals and not be one of the best 6 players on the ground.

Thats just the way i saw it. Not that i take much notice of dream team points,Jamar received only58 points. it was possibly MJ's best game for the MFC, however 6 kicks one hand pass imo is not worthy of a BOG vote, even though 5 of those 6 kicks were goal, and at Full forward thats your job. imo the guys that i voted for had more impact to get the ball into the forward line.

  8. The Media was looking for anything to hang their "Tank" hat on. I bet if they look at every game with the same rose coloured glasses the same will apply. look at supposedly Last years best forward "Buddy" 2 goals 7, did the dawks tank?, did Buddy have a bet on? Wake up you guys.

  9. Are you kidding. Has anyone questioned, St kilda with 9 top ten draft picks in their current side, the Dawks with their 5 picks in the top 20 to get Ruffnut and Franklin an Co a few years ago, was the same scrutiny on Carltank two years ago what the media is giving us, Essendon cheating the salary cap that won them a flag, and so on. Give us a frigin break, Im so sick of it. if any opposition supporters complain, let them look in their own backyard first!!

  10. Unfortunatley i wasn't at the game, but i have just seen the highlights, one thing is every one of those guys today want a win, an d few of them are playing for their future. Credit to those guys. Yep i want picks 1 & 2, but you could not have planned that finish if you wre trying to loose, IMO.

  11. I/C: M.Whelan, S.Valenti, N.Jetta, C.Morton,

    Emergencies: J.Spencer, C.Sylvia, S.Buckley

I know I want picks 1 & 2, I know the kids playing are trying there best, BUT, Col, not playing, morton, down on form, Jetta, better than Col, Buckley, not showing form in the VFL, and on a side note Bail from, just about AFL selection to VFL 2nd's, what did he do, point his private parts at some ones Auntie?

I think i need to go to sleep until October, it will be all over then!

  12. Can someone please clarify.

If both West Coast & Melbourne have 16points or less at the end of this year (forget about Freo) and West Coast finish lower than us on the ladder, do they get PP 1 (as they finished lower this year) or do we (as we finished lower last year)?

they will get picks 1 and 3

  13. The other point relates to that saying that to a man with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

This is not a tank team!! These are definitely genuine injuries. We've known about Grimes' & Jamar's injuries earlier this week. We saw Grimes land awkwardly and struggle to get up (usually a player who's on his feet extremely quickly) when Ablett got his first goal by getting into his back when he was about to take a mark his back got bent backwards, the wordst thing that could happen to someone with a back problem. He played the rest of the game but his back would have been very sore once he cooled down. Jamar's been battling a quad on & off for the past 6 weeks or so.

Brock apparently carried his sore knee, which he hurt against Port, into the game against Geelong and had a shocker. Does that mean that we "tanked" by playing him injured so that our midfield would get smashed even worse, against the best in the business? Or are we "tanking" this week by leaving him out even though he could play injured last week?

And Green injured his wrist a few weeks back, nothing showed on X-ray so he kept playing, then a further investigation (possibly a CT or MRI) revealed the fracture of the scaphoid. A scaphoid fracture is notorious for doing that - not showing up on initial investigations but showing up 2 or 3 weeks later. It's also notorious for not healing or healing badly so that the pain is ongoing, and this is one where playing injured may have caused a problem for him longterm - I hope not, he's definitely one of the best at the club. So did we "tank" by playing him injured, knowing that this tricky fracture could be a possibility?

This is not tanking or list management - it's a shocking week for injuries. If this had happened in Round 2, none of these players would be playing. Even Jack Watts is out with a chipped bone (i.e. fracture) in his thumb, which needs to be treated very carefully. Of the other 4, Grimes is 50/50 at best for next week, the others are all out next week and probably the week after.

And are we "tanking" by dropping Robbo? Or considering his recent form, would we have been "tanking" if he'd stayed in the team while Miller & Newton are doing well at Casey? We're "tanked" if we do and "tanked" if we don't!

The problem is that with the current hysteria about tanking, our supporters and the media call everything tanking. Sorry to disappoint all you who are drooling for the club to show us signs that we're tanking, but it's not this week.

About all that could be said is that the footy-gods are doing what they can to help us!!

    Hear Hear!

  14. Once again defeat is a bitter pill to swallow, however, for those who prefer for us win more than 5 games, what if West Tank eagles go for the prority pick, not forgetting their supporters have seen their team win a flag in 1992, 1994 and again in 2006. How would you feel if they got Scully and won another flag in 5 years?

11 different sides have won a flag since 1990, the only teams yet to see success is MFC, St Kilda, Tigers, Bullies and Freo. Of these the Saint and the Bullies may have a chance soon. It comes to how far MFC, Freo and the Tigers. For me I am yet to see the MFC win a flag, 45 years since it happened. We have a better chance of seeing Haley's comet again if we don't do something now!
