Thank you so much for this video and post. As a new MCC member in the late 70s-early 80s, Robbie's extraordinary skills and clubmanship drew me to follow the Demons (plus an inbred hatred of Richmond, the only co-tenants at the time). Memories of his play have sustained me through to the 2021 premiership.

In answer to some other posts, Robbie polled highly in two Brownlow counts '79 and '84 finishing third each time. I can't remember which year but he missed 6 games at the end of one of these seasons with a broken arm. It is extraordinary that Robbie won only one B&F. I have heard a quip that the MFC voters suffered combined dyslexia in the 3 years that Laurie Fowler won ('75, '79 & '80).

    Thanks again

I think it was 84 where the injury cost him the Brownlow.  I remember watching as a little tacker and being upset when Peter Moore went by him and won.  My father (a Geelong man) told me I should be happy another Melbourne player won, but it wasn’t the same.

Just at 10am, a small number of the Mark Knight Premium Edition posters was made available to the general public at the Herald Sun Shop.

Great if you weren’t able to get the Melbourne members priority allocation or already purchased the foil print.

Cheers for the heads up.  Got one!

  3. Thanks AmDamDemon.  I am in the British Virgin Islands.  Pretty sure there are no other Melbourne supporters here (but would love to be proven wrong!).  I will be watching the game in the early hours while on a Zoom with friends and family.  Then planning to spend the day drinking at the beach, win or lose.  If there are any Demons out there, come on down to Cane Garden Bay!

My concern on May early in the game was that the was leaving his man to attack aerial contests but attempting to mark instead of spoil with the result that his man was free. He seemed more effective after quarter time and commentators on The Age podcast complimented his work in repeatedly bodying Cox out of position. They were critical of the fact that Cox had been played at all and said he was outplayed by May.

May did a good job on Cox...repeatedly pushed him under the ball without infringing (taking him out of the contest).

  5. At half time I thought his game was almost the opposite of usual. All work rate, tackles, leads etc and no fancy stuff, no threading the needle etc. I was really happy with his efforts but thought it would probably go unnoticed. I thought his third quarter was a bit quieter but they were at the other end from me so maybe that was it. His fourth quarter was immense. The amount of running he did was great.

The last goal he kicked after a mark close to goal was a result of a 150 m run from the wing where he won the ball and got it out before sprinting forward. Fantastic play.

    Well done Jack.

He has *played better* but this was one of his highest work rates I think.

Agree with this...he covered an incredible amount of territory in the last quarter...really wanted it.

  6. That's all that matters really.

    LeFail not getting his ring.

I wouldn't have gone after LeFail at all. Heat should have waited till the 2012 FA.

Imagine D-Wade and Dwight paired together or even CP3 and Wade...

Wade can't be traded ...he's untouchable like Kobe is to the Lakers.

I feel sick to the stomach at the thought of Dwight leaving Orlando. How do you fill that hole? I'm sure Miami (and many others) would love him.

  7. Virgin Isles, hmmn, any for sacrifice??? Maybe a burning @ the midnight hour!

They are quite religous folks here. I often wonder what they think of my tshirts and car stickers professing my love of Demons...

  8. Hello All,

I have just moved to Holland for work and I am thinking that this is the best way of keeping in touch with all matters Demon related. I normally live in Melbourne (Richmond), but for my sins at work I have been packed off to Amsterdam for the next two years.

A long timer sufferer of the MFC I am, but boy would I enjoy some success. Normally I am not a big contributor to message boards, but as I suspect I will need my footy fix whilst I am over here I think this might be a good place to start.

Can anyone tell me if there are many other overseas contributors to this forum, and where they are located? I would be interested in hearing about their experiences of following the Dee's from afar.

    Thanks.

  9. I'm sitting in front of my computer in the Virgin Islands following the scores. Couldn't get the radio feed over the internet for some reason. I'm dying to know how all the new guys went. Spill the beans everybody!

  10. If both sides continue winning that could be a ripper of a game. Going to be a vital clash between divisional rivals. Yankees still lead the division, but Rays and Sox are right behind them!

Shame you are not going in late August or early September, you could have squeezed in an NFL game in Tampa (barring lockout of course.......)

No NFL action for me, but I did catch Orlando Magic and the Atlanta Hawks during the playoffs...Magic had a good win on the night, but a real pity they couldn't support big Dwight over the course of the series!
