  1. I hope all the pro-Lou brigade will be happy in 30 years when Eddie McGuire gets awarded into the AFL Hall of Fame.

Still Waiting, not sure what your problem is with Enforcer's post, Lou is full of it, always has been & I am sure Lou would be the first to agree with that! Yes, its part of his charm, that doesn't make him any less full of it though! I think part of the reason people want him inducted is because Lou's been talking himself up for so many decades they've forgotten its all bs...

A lot of the Lou Richards spruiking has been coming from his two most recent employers, Ch 9 & the Scum. What a win it would be for them to be able to pump the media's contribution to footy.

Perhaps after Lou & Eddie they could give a Hall of Fame award to Salary Cap concessions & Twilight matches?

  2. Flew down from Sydney on the Friday night and queued up at the G from 3.30am on Saturday to get seats...

Queued up at MCG from 6 a.m. (alarm went off at 5 a.m.). Gates opened at 8 a.m. Got seats...

MikeyJ & bingers I'm curious to know what sort of seats you got & what level getting there at those times with 2 Vic teams playing for once. Haven't bothered with the MCC walk-ups the last couple of years...

  3. I am no wrap for Jamar but he is much better player than Blake.

Blake is terrible & I am yet to meet a Geelong supporter who thinks otherwise.

If we were to go for any of their rucks I'd have my eye on Mumford.

I rate Gamble, I doubt we are in the market for another inbetween sized forward though.

    Stokes will stay.

If Simon Hogan was available I'd be keen.

  4. Tough call. Would have to feel for Zac but I'd do it.

On what basis would Dawson be dropped? Dawson's position in the side ever being anything less than certain is a figment of the media's imagination and Lyon said as much yesterday.

The Saints have been playing brilliantly without Hudghton all year so unless there is any pressing need to replace someone I don't see what all the fuss is about. With Dawson, Blake, Fisher, Gilbert & Goddard all back there its not as if they are pressed for height, they probably have the tallest backline in the comp as it is. Everyone is carrying on as if its Hudghton's god given right to play in the GF, tough luck for him I say.

  5. Personally, I think the MFC website is generally very up to date & compared to other clubs sites is maintained well.

The MFC is nearly always one of the first to make their teams available on their website each Thursday, some of the interstate teams sometimes do not even put up there teams on their website at all. Same goes for match results & post-match articles, ours are up there almost immediately after the game. This is probably what most would consider the critical information - the teams & the results & the game reports - and the club could not be any quicker at getting this information on their site.

The website has more than enough content to grab the attention of potential supporters or potential members and that is the important thing for me. I don't think you should expect the MFC website, or in any brands website, to provide anything more than basic information.

Injury updates are a frustration for followers of any sport and always will be. The injury list is already a farce, if clubs were obliged to provide even more information it would just be more useless spin that cannot be relied upon anyway.

I agree that not responding to emails is a problem though. You often here about the club not responding to enquiries from people who contribute, or are seeking to contribute, to the club financially and this worries me. I know members of my own family have experienced this exact problem & it is not only emails but telephone calls that are not followed up.

  6. We have a BUNCH of young midfielders that were all either high draft picks or have shown something when playing in the midfield. Drafting two mids with the first two picks of the draft this year even adds more to our list and i expect those two to contribute and be slotted in the side near immediately!

Others who were high draft picks or have already shown something in the mid-

Blease, Strauss, Jetta, Grimes, Morton, Beamer, Jones, Brock, Sylvia, Buckley + Scully & Trengove, with vets still on the list- Jmac, Bruce and Green,Davey all able to play in the mid too then you add Burgoyne...17 possible midfielders??????

By the way i was in the Butcher pick 2 camp but Trengove looks way to good to pass up! I predict some hard decisions will have to be made no matter what!

Is 17 a problem? If you look at others teams lists I think you'll find that is around the mark. Keep in mind nearly all those players you listed are capable of, & in many cases preferred, playing somewhere else & several of them will never have the engine to be full time midfielders, there are others you've left off though.

Trengove is the 2nd best player in the draft & that is why we will pick him & if he reaches his potential he will be capable of playing almost anywhere we need him. Did you think Aaron Davey would ever play half back when you first saw him play? Where will Morton be playing in 4 years?

You have not listed 17 'midfielders', you have listed 17 good small-medium players capable of playing in a variety of positions.

As long as we continue to replinish our KPP & ruck stocks each draft our list will maintain balance.

  7. but if we do get him and also draft Scully and Trengove we need to be active in trade week cause we will have too many mids!

Maybe we will look to offload in a trade for Burgs?

Too many mids, like the Cats, the Saints & the Doggies?

I fail to understand how having Scully, Trengove & pick 18 is ok but having Scully, Trengove & Burgoyne = too many mids.

We do not have 1 single midfielder that would slot into a top 4 midfield right now, the more top shelf prospects the merrier.

Our backline is set, our forwardline may be too. Provided we get another KPF & ruck prospect at the upcoming drafts our team balance will be fine.

  8. i know you never said PJ was crap...i understand you said he's not a ruckman... 'jacey' has said PJ has had a shocker year...many posts on this site about how crap PJ is...

Acording to people who know PJ from playing with him around frankston he's a forward. that's where he's played most of his footy...i agree he's not a ruckman...

You are putting all the people who want to keep Jamar in the 'Jamar lovers' basket & putting all the people who question PJ's ability to hold down a position in the 'PJ's crap' basket. That is not what people are saying.

Many people in the keep Jamar camp still question his ability however they think we should persist with him because he is our best ruck option at the moment.

If we get rid of Jamar and you agree that PJ is not a ruckman, who do you think should be playing 1st ruck next year?

You cannot say Jamar's a dud, get rid of him & then not offer a solution for our ruck woes.

And we cannot play all of Watts, Jurrah, Miller, Bate & PJ in the forwardline, not to mention guys like Martin, Garland & Newton as potential options as well. Who does PJ get a game in the forwardline before? Of all our forward options, where does PJ rank?

  9. Port Adelaide has said they wont be looking at Mark Seaby. The Port footy department is currently being propped up by the SANFL so they cant afford to pay Seaby what he wants. They have to cut back playing spending as the club made a loss again this year.Seaby is apparently out of their price range & the rumour is that Sydney have spoken to him & its at the stage where W.C & Sydney are trying to work out a deal. With Port saying day by day that they desperatly need a Ruckman & will offer up pick 8 maybe we could help.I know Jamar is starting to show something but sometimes you have to give up something to make the club better & also still rumours that he wants to leave us anyway.I would be keen to offload Jamar & our 4th round pick or Jamar & Bell to get Ports pick 8.Imagine if we had pick 1,2,8 & 18.Thats 4 picks in the top 20 where all the cream is.Thats never been done before & would be a huge boost for us.We could get Skully,Trengove at 1 & 2 & then look at Carlisle or Rohan et the number 8 & the Panos or Butcher at 18.Would have the 2 best mids then a couple of KPP.Would be a great win for us.Even Jamar or T-Mac for this to happen would be a good outcome in my opinion

I'd jump on Jamar for 8 in a flash, even with all the sweetners in the world that would never happen though.

  10. so PJ played 16 games and some people think he's crap...i think 16 games for the year is a reasonable indication of whether you can handle it at the top level. i don't think 7 games is enough games to be considered a performer. i would agree he has improved....but he's by no means a proven ruckman. I don't mind PJ...

I never said PJ was crap & nobody else has. People are saying PJ is not a ruckman. And if he is not a ruckman what is he?

PJ playing 16 games as a big bodied, semi-experienced player in an injury ravaged bottom side is meaningless.

The fact Jamar only played 7 games is irrelevant to his performance, he missed them through injury.

I am not saying Jamar is god's gift but he at least has the potential to hold the No 1 ruck spot & provide the experience Meesen, Spencer & others will need while they develop. PJ is not capable of doing that because he is not a ruckman.

  11. PJ, Jamar and hopefully Meesen are the only genuine ruckmen on the list with any playing experience. Spencer has shown a bit, but is still a little way of in terms of size and engine. Martin is shortish, and needed elsewhere... only a backup.

PJ is not and never has been a 'genuine ruckman'.

Meesen has played the same amount of games as Spencer, how does he have any more playing experience?

I agree that Martin is probably too short to ever be a No 1 ruckman. The same applies to PJ though.

We can only trade Jamar if we are prepared to play one of Meesen & Spencer as No 1. Unless we want to keep going backwards and persist with PJ...

Personally I'd rather trade PJ for peanuts & the additional spot on our list than trade Jamar for a semi-decent pick.

I certainly don't want to see PJ playing No 1 ruck while Meesen & Spencer continue to play in the 2s.

  12. If you took Daw's footage you see there and could magically alter it to be (I hate to say it) just another caucasian kid, running around doing what he's doing, there'd be a LOT more said about him.

At one stage i was watching Nik Nat, the next second i thought i was watching Jurrah.

  13. 'Best available' means that they will pick the player who they believe will become the best player, irrespective of player type or stage of development.

It is just a coincidence that Scully & Trengove apper the most 'AFL ready' of the top prospects. Last year it was the opposite with bottom aged Watts going 1 & and an extremely raw Natanui going at 2, while the 'AFL ready' Rich fell to 7.

An example of the opposite approach to 'best available' may be Carlton picking Kruezer ahead of Cotchin because they had Gibbs, Murphy and a shortage of talls or the Cats picking mature age Harry Taylor with their 1st round pick because they wanted somebody who could slot right into a key defensive post.

It gets messy though when you have a handful of guys who are hard to split, in this case obviously team balance will come into it.

  14. I am amazed at that you all think he has better skills than Nik Nat and Jake Spencer, there is a reason the highlights package doesn't show where the ball is landing after he kicks. He tries to avoid kicking as much as Nik Nat does.

He is most likely heading for a rookie list, but someone might love the upside and take him late.

Agreed. Its a great story to follow back people are pumping him up far too much.

The comparisons to NikNat are absoultely ridiculous, he plays nothing like him & is light years behind where he was at at 17...

  15. What do you mean they don't take 3rd week off? Give me some examples of these 'hard players' who seem to produce every week?

He is still youngish and is going to have up's and downs. Next year is when he needs to put a whole season together and really become a top player.

Joel Selwood, Chris Judd, Luke Hodge, Jonathon Brown, Lenny Hayes, Brent Moloney... there players that go hard every week and for the most part, have always done.

Ups and downs in form should not necessarily effect ones ferocity & tenacity at the contest. To me Lids sometimes looks like he lacks a little hunger. This is not an uncommon view so I don't what all the fuss is about. I am saying this in the context of trading pick 1 or 2 for him, I still think he is an awesome player and may go onto to become a superstar, I'd want someone who has already proven they have the hunger to get there for those picks though, ie a Joel Selwood.

Lids talent is obvious but for me his ability to realise its full potential is not, as yet.

  16. Do your homework before posting, has been one of the hardest players at the footy in the past 2 months

A whole 2 months? Wow... still a couple of flaky ones in the middle there though. Genuine hard players don't take every 3rd week off & take the first 3 months of the season to find their ferocity.

I agree he has been in [censored] hot form of late but still not a player I'd consider hard... yet.

  17. On MMM Robbo does special comments on Saturday night and said he was going to attemp to take mark of the year and told all Melbourne fans to come along just for that.

And this probably sums up why we aren't keeping him on and why its unlikely he'll be picked up by another AFL club.

Even dimwit Fev will tell you that his aim these days is to go out there and chase & lay tackles and the rest will take care of itself.

It a shame Robbo has chosen not to adapt to the modern game.

  18. We must free up 6 spots, 5 at a pinch if we can retain Spencer on the RL. Is it possible to have a 3rd year rookie? If so I think that would be preferable to promoting Spencer to the senior list just yet, he still needs plenty more time to learn to kick.

JMac, Robbo, Wheats and Whelan are the obvious candidates

I voted for Bartam & Buckley too as I don't rate either of them. Bartram seems to be the teacher's pet though and the MFC often seems reluctant to move kids on after a year on the sidelines so I am not sure they would delist Bucks either.

It is unfortunate Newton & Bell are contracted.

PJ is in the gun too, everyone loved him last year though and I would probably lean towards keeping him before the others I've listed.

If we could off load any of Newton, Bell or PJ for pick 102 so we can free up another spot on the list before draft day that would be ideal.

  19. I am suprised people rate Hale.

His one-off 8 goal haul seems to get a lot of mentions. The latter half of 2008 he was good, that is it though. The latter half of Michael Newton's 2007 was good too.

I remember nearly choking on my breakfast last year or earlier this year when I first read Hale had been signed up for another 3 years.

He is extremely hot and cold, for every week he kicks a couple he'll have a dot game. And he has never had much of an impact as a ruckman.

He is 25. Half a good season in 8 years in the system?

I would consider trading Rivers for somebody who has the potential to be there at our next premiership tilt and make an impact. Hale does not fit that category for me.

I am not convinced we have an excess of defenders just yet either. Garland & Martin could still develop into different roles yet.

  20. 1. Scully

    2. Watts

    3. Trengrove

    4. Davey

    5. Grimes

    6. Sylvia

    7. Morton

    8. Garland

    9. Frawley

    10. Jurrah

    In that order.

I should add that I have Davey so high because I believe he is the glue that binds the brother hood together and if we can keep him a Demon for his career it will go a long way to securing the services of Jurrah, Bennell, Aussie, etc.
