When I first heard about Jesse wanting to leave I was shattered.

After my brain processed it for a day or two I became genuinely excited about what we could get in return.

If (and it's a big if) there is any back flip from Jesse and he doesn't request a trade, he must sign a minimum 4 year contract extension or we must F him off.

There were morons here who said we had no right to request he show his loyalty by signing a new deal. I would like all of those people to put their hand up because they seemed quite happy to just let his contract run down in a rather reactionary way.

Her name was Heidi and they just cut to her saying she was the one who had the sign etc and Robbo comes out and boldly asks “So Heidi, why do you love Gerard?”

Without missing a beat she says promptly: “He’s the thinking woman’s crumpet”. *Everyone laughs*

”I mean let’s face it when you hear the dulcet tones of Gerard Whately crooning into your lounge room each night it’s like, it’s like chocolate velvet washes all over you.”

The look on Gerard, you just had to see it..

    Hilarious!

Just watching the re-run of the 360 special that was on tonight. Jack did his rascal of the year segment and the winner was this girl at a darts comp with an  ‘I love Gerard Whately’ sign in the crowd.

I wish I could just put a video clip here because I really can’t explain what happened next when they asked her some questions. If you can watch it somehow do it, I honestly can’t do it justice.

Come on layzie out with it! Can’t find it online anywhere.

Anyone have a spare ticket to the granny?

I missed out in the AFL members allocation because all the Collingwood members took them. I’m really upset to  miss the game. In fact I took the missing out on a ticket way harder than losing to WC.

Even as a diehard Melbourne supporter, I’m desperate to attend the game and haven’t missed a grand final since 2003.

Willing to pay a moderate amount of money for the ticket.

(yeah I knows there’s a 0.00001% chance anything will come from this)

This is a really strange thing to say on a forum full of hardcore MFC fans who were still gutted over the result. Sound more like an all round fan of the game than a die hard Melbourne fan.

I thought someone might take exception to the “generational player” and fawning epithets comment. Fair enough, you are entitled to that view and make a reasonable argument. However I would dispute your assertion that “the larger football world would have have him as the best KPF under 25.” I think if you put Hogan up against Charlie Curnow and Joe Daniher many would have him third picked in that group. Many wouldn’t sure, but no way is it a clear cut thing.

The knock on Jesse at this stage (and I think it’s a fair one) is that he’s shown a propensity so far to beat up on weaker teams and go missing a bit in the bigger games. This is something a casual look at his goals to games ratio doesn’t show up unless you take a closer look at the statistics.

Im not saying he isn’t a very good player. He is. But a certainty to be a Carey-esque superstar? A “generational player”? Sorry but that’s a big stretch based on the body of work I’ve seen. Plenty of potential absolutely but more than a few rough edges remain that need ironing out.

I think you’ve been 10 minutes of wrong here. The guy is a talent that comes around maybe once in 5 drafts. His ability to be a key forward with strength but also cover territory and get up the ground is something that none of the under 25 KPF players can do nearly as well.

He's not a Free Agent until the end of 2021.

He was drafted in special mini draft in 2012 but was not on our senior list in 2013 and could only play for Casey because he was too young.

First season on our senior list was 2014.  8 years to qualify for FA means end of 2021.

He is out of contract next year though.

What happens at the end of next year? Can we still trade him or is it straight to the draft?

Don't be so gullible, ET. Don't believe any signed contract, no matter how long it is.

It’s putting your money where your mouth is. The best indication that someone is staying is if the sign a new contract.

So every time a player says something, we can't believe it? If a player says he loves the club and signs a new deal, does that mean he was lying all along and signed up to just to spite us?

It means a little and can be a nice positive sign but to take the guy’s word to the bank and tell all your friends he’s staying based on that is as gullible as falling for your rickroll earlier. Signed contract = staying.

Yes, I understand what you are saying crystal clear and I am suggesting you ignore it.

I do ignore it. These people need to learn that this crap means nothing though until signatures on dotted lines are acquired. He might have said what he did after the Swans game but a month is a long tome and could have changed his mind. We’ve also heard nothing from him since then, whereas Lever has been prominent.
