Jones, McLean, Sylvia.
Wouldn't call them soft
Yeah but who have the got to kick to that is? Sylvia is no glen jackovich/ Wayne Carey/ Alistair Lynch if you look at him as a KPP,
There aint to many players who can win the contested footy one on one, If they have leg speed they are to weak example Davey, If they are strong they are to slow example Neitz. Our mid range players that lack speed should be making up for weakness with muscle and strength, Talent simply isn't good enough on its own anymore.
-
Why is it that coaches overlook this, If you look over the past premiers, especially Brisbane and Geelong are prime examples that you need to be able to win the contested football and be tough. Why do they focus on game plans which in a way are crap because the team that usually can win the tough contested footy become the superior football team. Why doesn't Bailey look at tougheniing up our side seens we are one of the slowest going around, why not look at winning the footy by bute strength instead of by flashy talent

give cousins a shot, hes been man enough to face his demons, he isn't a criminal and hasn't been charged with anything, His character as man to come clean on everything is something alot of people wouldn't handle, I admire him for his courage and facing the savagery of the media, Some respect should be given, he is human, we all make mistakes, He can play the game, is still better than any player on our list, All the club would have to do is make him [censored] in a cup every week

9 weeks

Id rather Ben Holland in our forward line than David Neitz, Atleast dutchy can take a grab.
-
It wasn't to long ago Bruce was having a cracker of a season and was Brownlow favourite till he got a season ending injury. Have faith in Bruce when he if fit he is our main ball getter
-
I don't think we have anyone that can even kick from outside fifty, and thats where we seem to feeding our forwards
-
Pretty stupid game plan to introduce when speed is needed. We don't have any, DB must not be too smart then
-
Im sure if we treat our players like children they react like children, its not a boarding school ffs. I can understand if its positive criticism, but he aint gonna get too much respect from players if he is acting like a prison warden
-
Clint Bartram and Matthew Bate
They will be our best and most valuable players when they are fit
-
Well the worst thing is these bad losses are happening now! The worst time of the year when the club is trying to sell memberships. Thats where it hurts the club the most, financially. If we don't sell memberships and put our sponsors in the lime light we wont succeed
-
I reckon 20,000 members think they know what they are talking about as well.
Opinions are like A___soles, everybody's got one unfortunately.
True, but i'd listen to people that understand the game and played it at top level before anyone else, don't care where they are from.
-
If we continue to get belted by 100 points for the next few weeks, do you think the members, club officials and supporters will continue to grin and bare it? Will any excuse be accepted? What do you think would happen?

How would you know if Bucks knows the MFC players better than DB?
Any mug can see the problems out there although not many commentators choose to understand what DB is seeking to do.
But I glad you rank him on possibly one of the most meaningless statistics in the modern game. I am sure you gain alot of insight from the stat pages of Monday's paper.
He mightn't know the players, but he knows how the game should be played and the do's and donts. Basic principles, if it wasn't Bucks making the comments i wouldn't take much notice. Im sure bucks knows what he's talking about.
-
I think that Buckley knows the game well enough to make judgement, He was only a brownlow medalist and captain of collingwood ffs. Buckley was one of the best in the business. Players like Buckley read the game of football better than anyone, thats why they could average 30 possessions a game.
-
Letting Neiz go could have given us more trading money. Neitz was selfish in continuing. He would have been better in a coaching role, like josh mahoneys job.
-
The only thing we can do is prey for rain and turn it into a bog hole, therefore a low scoring game. Flood the backline!!!!!
Otherwise we will go down by 20 goals
-
Belzebub if you had any idea and were a coach wouldn't you instruct your players what they are doing wrong via the runner? Its the gameplan buckley was critiscising. Players play where they are instructed. Bailey is the one that can see everything thats happening. Stupidity! how Neitz was moved all over the ground was not smart, Davey in the midfield too soft. He is playing players where there weaknesses are vulnerable.
-
Thats where Baileys has stuffed up, he obviously doesn't know where our players play there best football. He could've taken something from Danners coaching. Neitz CHF dreaming, Davey Midfield dreaming, Neitz Backline stupidity. You don't have to be Einstien to know that Neitz is best inside the 50. Davey is to soft to be a Midfielder

Nathan Buckley on 3aw couldn't understand a few things Dean Bailey was doing on the weekend. If Buckley can pick out problems in our game, why can't our coach. Nathan Buckley obviously understands the modern game better than our coach. It does make a difference when you've played the game and have credentials to back it up, everything comes naturally cos they made the game what it is today. I hope it works for Bails but i don't think hes good enough for AFL
-
You can add Neil Craig to that list.
Some of the conspiracy theories about the players being this or that fantasised by "supporters" who know little is more appalling than MFC's attack on the ball.
I can't believe some of the offal posted here.
Great post Astrodee. However it will be likely to lost on those who will blame DB/ND for why there clocks out of sync as a clear message from the players that they are not happy with the game plan.
What is offal? Statistics and history shows whats needed to be a premiership coach. These men that are premiersship coaches are that for a reason, they were born leaders and they did it on the football field as well, When will a player committ 100%? When they have respect, belief, trust and motivation from the coach. If the players aren't happy with the coaches ways they ain't going to get results on the board
-
Tell me this Jaded how many coaches have a premiership to there name that have poor player credentials?
-
It's kind of hard to take our players seriously when many of them have no football credentilas as players either.
Since when does playing ability translate to coaching ability?
You can be a champion player and a hopeless coach you know (hello Danny Frawley).
You do not choose a coach based on how much the players will admire him. I don't give a flying rats if our players look up to Dean. I just care that they follow his instructions. They don't need to get married, they need to have a respectful working relationship, but at the moment, they need to gain his respect, not the other way around.
I am amazed that anyone can point the finger at Bailey after 2 matches.
Im not so much blaming Bailey,
I'm pointing out that nearly all Grand Finalists coaches do have player credentials and were hard and tough. Thats why most of them captained and got coaching positions. For a coach to come with no credentials as a player and coach a premiership is a fairytale. Bury your head in the sand i'm only pointing out facts, look in the history books mate.
-
It would be hard for the players to take Dean Bailey seriously when he doesn't have many football credentilas as a player.
If you look at recent coaches that have coached teams that have won a Grand Final you will notice they all have a similarity
Mark Williams- Captained Collingwood, Brisbane Vice Captain
Leigh Matthews- Captained Hawthorn
Mark Thompson- Captained Essendon
John Worsfold- Captained West Coast
Paul Roos- Captained Fitzroy
They all share that one quality needed to be a A.F.L coach, they have been there done that, know how to lead a team onto the football field.
Dean Bailey has nothing like these coaches, he may have a smart football brain, but can he relate to players, gain respect and motivate players through his experiences on the football field. These men above lived and breathed football all there life and have all the respect they can get. They are great footballers.
Dean Bailey was an average player and will most likely have a short career in AFL coaching due to his credentials.
I hope he can prove me wrong but I think we should be looking for someone players will look up to next time.
Press Conference Called.
