last time we played them a red-hot fritsch broke his foot and didn't return until the final game of the season, kicking 5, but looking very rusty after then having a week off

it was the game that melksham returned to the side

i don't know how you can talk up browne's comments re the filth that they can still do some damage in 2024, @The Oracle , and then talk down our chances - it seems like pure mfcss runs thru yr veins

i'm not confident either, but i'm not forlorn - this season is CRAZY even and anyone can beat anyone on their day

    bring it on

If Petty can find some more form, and with Gawn doing most of the ruck and Turner kicking a couple of goals this will be the best fwd line fielded all year.

Melky didn’t win the Round 19 MOTY nomination. 😭

But worse than him not winning it is the fact that Nate Caddy won it. It just had to be an Essendon player, didn’t it 🤮

*adds this to her roll of toilet paper-length list of reasons for hating Essendon*

All good though, Melks will take a gravity-defying screamer in Round 24 over Maynard, knocking him out cold in the process, this footy act immediately ending the filthy thug’s career. Do I hear an Amen?

    😏

    Amen and Amen sister.

Exactly! They secure a well-known American regardless of the suitability of the music.

I’m not even sure who Katy Perry appeals to. The preteen fans when she was ‘relevant’ are now in their early- to mid-twenties.

One of the biggest fails was in 2015 when the British singer Ellie Goulding headlined. Totally unsuitable genre and sang way too softly. It was so cringe.

Surprisingly she has broad appeal amongst a lot of women

But surely we can do better.y bad I'm thinking Taylor Swift but I'll give that a pass.

Sadly for me it's hunters, Paul Kelly or the like.

Goal kicking from close range is all between the ears, Fritsch, McDonald and others couldn’t get it done when it mattered most.
Had we played a disciplined, team first approach against Carlton we would have won by 4-6 goals. For mine we couldn’t handle the pressure, dare I mention it but it started with the selection of you know who.

Anywho let’s not go back there, it ranks high as a massive missed opportunity and the fact an ordinary Collingwood won the flag just makes it so much worse, not to mention losing Gus to the club.

Because such a bog ordinary team in Cwood won the flag it makes it so much harder not to revisit. It was the finals series from hell. We had the worst run of luck with a totally decimated fwd line including a revitalized Melksham going down against Sydney.

And then to do all the work we did and not take our chances with our errant kicking was the s_.t on the cake.

Carlton on the other hand have been the opposite in conversion and have been very disciplined and well trained in set shots. The umpires didn't help us either.

If we do make finals I just hope we get to end all aspirations and chances the blues have at winning this year.

And if we don't then may some other team have the glory in doing likewise.

good win against GWS and the mentality will switch again completely

A really good point. If we lose against Gws it's still very possible for us to make the eight but a loss may just completely destroy any shred of confidence we have after another demoralizing Freo lost.

I really think our season hinges upon this weekends game against a very good team.

The only better outcome is making finals and winning one. Get that bloody finals monkey off our backs. It’s unlikely, but it’s not impossible.
Plenty of mediocre teams who we could end up facing in a week one elimination.

This is the least obvious season we’ve had in years in terms of who wins the flag. Swans are good but not great, especially at the MCG. And the rest are up and down like a yo-yo.

We could easily go 0-5 or 5-0 from here. Nothing would shock me anymore.

Of course the MOST important thing left to do in 2024 is to win round 24!

I think with our low percentage it's probably going to require three more wins for us to play finals.

We will have to be playing our very best football for that to transpire as we will play some strong teams in good form.

If we do make finals it will be a result of us finding some form at the right time and given how close the comp is any team is a chance to win their respective finals ( excluding playing the Swans at the Scg). Although to be fair Sydney have become a little unstuck at the wrong time of the year.

Mathematically as of right now we are in a position that our final's birth is in our own hands and technically there is the possibility of 15 wins which may result in a top four spot.

This weekend is must win. I believe if we do win this round than we will definitely be playing finals.

It will be great to be back on our home turf and I hope we can shake the damage that the docker's have inflicted upon us once again.

It's not going to be easy but I believe our best footy is good enough to beat any team. Let's just hope we can find and play it.

    Go Dees.

Ps Also if do make finals it means we have been playing some very good consistent footy which in a notoriously close comp could mean quite a lot.

Great news, we need more like him.

    We have young Brown.

I like the cut of Kolts job( whatever that means).

    McVee

    Jvr

    Turner

And I know people have been critical of AMW but I think he will end up being a very good midfielder for us one day.

Yep a few more will do nicely.

    Another Strong mid and fwd.

The tribunal and inconsistent umpiring/score review process are leading causes of my growing apathy towards AFL. I barely watch games anymore.

It's not that I hate the AFL or the game, because hate implies caring. I just do not give a rats about footy the way I used to, because there's no sense in committing so much energy to something that makes no sense and which you cannot control.

    That's a shame chook.

Obviously it used to give you enjoyment.

Try and look past all the cr.p and enjoy the positive aspects.

    Cheers

I know the AFL is incompetent but let it go D.

    Thanks J.

Your right but I just think unless he learns he's going to destroy another players career again.

But yea it's not worth the angst.

    Cheers.

Fritch is brilliant when he’s on. But for whatever reason he showed no spark and had moments throughout the season of lackluster effort.

But it’s not about punishing him, it’s about selecting a game when Jefferson might have a look.

Sure, GWS is an important game, but Jefferson needs a taste of something real before another big pre-season. He’s a major investment.

I don’t mind ‘managing’ Fritch for a game. Let it be, what will be.

Brown surely comes in. And I’d like to see Howes.

That’s four changes, with Gawn. Won’t happen. But they looked flat. And the travel. Need to bring some spark, nothing like a big debut.

    Too risky for me.

We still are a chance for finals so we can't experiment here.

If we are locked out of finals against the pies then sure give Jeffo a run.

Yes Fritas been hot and cold but so has the whole team.

Plus he's so much better at the G.

A couple of purple patches from him change games.

Last year saw twelve wins get a finals birth.

Since our percentage is so low thanks to Freo twice we will need 13 wins.

We need to win three of the last five games against some tough opponents.

I don't think Hawks will make it because of their percentage.

The dogs have some tough games including us but have two easy ones in tigers and North and they have a strong percentage so are a solid chave of sneaking in.

That means if we play finals I see the Giants and power having to drop out.

The cats have some easy teams to play so are safe.

We also get to play three contenders so the reality is our destiny is in our own hands.

The real challenge to Swans are the Lions who have found form at the right time, Freo and Carlton.

Although the latter are hard to gauge. Carlton have kicked some good scores this year but in three of their games decided by a goal or less they have won all of them. ( We one won of our three).

I don't see Cwood or suns making it due to percentage.

Next week is a must win. Two reasons, it increases our likelihood and pushes  gws out . Although mathematically we are still a chance if we lose it will be highly unlikely.

It's such a close season that that Carlton game umpiring really hurts just like our percentage being demolished by Freo twice.
