It's commendable that we fought it out.
But it does bring up why did we not play our best in the beginning.
It's the same with our season.
We have beaten the.luons at the Gabba and lost by a point to the pies.
What gives?
Why the inconsistency?
Our forward line has probably been the most inconsistent in the comp so that's a part of it.
But the rest of the team?
Is it a coaching issue?
I'm also concerned by our lack of depth. A few youngsters that showed heaps of talent a year ago have really dropped off
Hard to see the club playing finals for a while with this current team.
The sad thing is many of them won a flag under four years ago. They are not all that old.
We used to have the best midfield and defence in the comp.
Both have disintegrated. Viney is getting too old although he probably gives the most effort. Oliver....well his disposal is all over the place. Tracc....not sure if he's the same player he was.
The good news is we have some great young defenders. Just have to stop playing them fwd.
There are players like Sparrow that play every week and you wonder why. Is it down to lack of depth and why?
Anyway I don't have any answers. Just that the club desperately needs to go shopping. And to stop picking up players other clubs don't want.

No but he is hands down apart from KP our best fwd . Better than Fritta.
He's very inconsistent though. Always has been and why he was never a superstar. Shows occasional glimpses of freakish talent.
Losing him in that Swans game cost us another flag.
But the fact he's our best fwd at his age is actually a real indictment upon us.
Not sure what the future for this club is.
It's frustrating.
I want someone to blame but I don't who .
At least the one on charge of goal kicking is a start.

Petracca - disposal was amateurish
Gawn - had negligible influence
Viney - tried but limited
Pickett - great last quarter
Bowey - tried but overwhelmed
Rivers - loose and disinterested
Turner - strong first half
Langford - needed longer break
Oliver - just a shadow
Chandler - irrelevant and uninvolved
Fritsch - seemingly without heart
Sparrow - another nothing game
McVee - little influence again
Petty - was actually missed
Langdon - not a tagger
Tholstrup - a year away
May - career is fading
Sharp - little to offer
Salem - regularly slowed momentum
Jefferson - two years away
Howes - unsighted before injury
Lindsay - shown no growth
Salem
Lever
Oliver
Some big stars that no longer are.
Sparrow never was.
Tracca plays some iffy games.
Petty not a fwd. Fritta comes and goes so apart from Melksham turning up we don't have a fwd line.
This team is unrecognisable to the one that won a flag. It's interesting because there are still quite a few of them still there. At least a dozen. And they're not all old.

Why the club has let Max fly solo for so long is disgraceful.
We have gone from having two premier ruckman TWICE in Jackson and Grundy to Jvr and Petty. Wth?
Clearly the club thought we needed two ruckman so why didn't they replace Jackson and Grundy?
Probably the same reason we haven't bothered to find another key fwd for three years I suppose.
Maybe this is what happens when you win a flag after such a long drought.
You think they will rain down afterwards.

GCS midfield makes ours look like little league.
Is Kozzie injured?
Genuine question. I haven't watched all the game but haven't sighted him lately.
I don't question Oliver's work rate but his disposal is at best.....very ordinary. He just seems really anxious to get rid of it and turns it over way too often. Undoes all his effort.

Just now, At the break of Gawn said: Gold Coast's pressure has been elite the whole game. Hopefully they have a bit of a drop off.
It has been but it was matched only by our lack of it in the first.
Good to see a fightback when the game was almost over.
I do wonder why in so many games this year we have been caught napping in the start.
Game prep not up to par.

Week in week out he fails to impact games.
Sometimes a fwd just has to go and get the pill no .....matter what. I'm sorry DD but one touch is on him. Totally.

Having somebody who can clunk a mark and take his 30 seconds (and hopefully kick a goal, god knows we need a few of those) allows our forward line to setup when we inevitably kick a point.
I think we have enough medium sized players across the park to win a game. Just need a big banana up front. Have done for the last 4 years.
And even the odd goal scored on or after the siren once in a while.
One can dream.

I want to hold on to Petty.
Given the ages and injuries of May, Lever and Tmac we will need him.
But definitely only as a defender. It's not his fault he's failed up fwd. He's is an athletic defender and not strong enough to play fwd.
Goodys insistence in this has cost us many games and while he doesn't have a great deal of options it has still been a huge error on his part to keep playing him in a position he is simply lost in. It's is baffling how stubborn Goody can be. To have your primary tall fwd kick around 0.7 goals per game is bizarre and a stat that reveals why we have lost so many games. But Goody keeps him there for two years now.
Poor Petty struggles to take contested marks inside our fwd line. If he is to play fwd then it should be as close to the middle of the ground as possible but even then he struggles. I feel sorry for Petty and would not blame him for wanting out.
