  1. No there is no point forcing a player to stay...

Just as there is no point signing on the dotted line if you do not intend to honour said contract.

I do get it & don't be so condescending...

    No

    Nasher was correct.

And I have spent ample time of my youth in red dirt and dirts of other colors too.

  2. Sounds like they aren't ruling out the possibility of him returning.

“The Melbourne Football Club will be working with Dom and will be making a submission to the AFL under the exceptional and compelling circumstances. This would, if approved, allow the opportunity for Dom to reengage with the Melbourne Football Club, should Dom rekindle his passion for AFL.

I think that presser speak which explains the Club is considerate about the poor boy but he has gone.

It certainly does not rule him in. Nor should it.

  3. Pick 3 is a career defining one for Jason Taylor. I suppose they all are but this pick in particular stands to be the most difficult and contentious.

Whoever he takes his little boys are on the line.

The draft isn't what it was ten years ago, the top boys are hard to pick. He will earn every cent of his wage if he nails this one pick.

I would have thought both picks 2 & 3 are career defining for Taylor in a draft which is not regarded for stand out players at picks 1,2 &3.
  4. I've got a contact at the club who is involved with the recruiting and drafting and I just thought I'd let you know that the issues you've been discussing here are exactly those that are being debated at the club at the moment. I've been told that Brayshaw is a lock for 2 but I think everyone knows that but pick 3 has narrowed down considerably over the last few weeks as a result of the interviews they have conducted.

Initially McCartin was the front runner as they wanted to add depth to the KPF situation and they realize this is one of the few chances they will get to pick a big class forward. And they reckon he would work really well with Hogan although that will be a few years away. They are comfortable with Dawes doing that role for the next few year but have doubts about his ability to do it in the longer term. But at the last meeting they discussed his medical situation and now have their doubts. The two players now most under consideration are Lever and Jordan De Goey who have edged in front of McCartin. Lever is a real talent but there is still some concern over his knee and they really like that De Goey is a real goer and is a big bodied the midfielder Roos likes.

The other one who hasn't been ruled out is Nakia Cockatoo because of all the players in the draft he has as much skill and X factor as anyone but his lack of exposed form is a real issue. Roos is torn because he can see the kids talent but hates taking risks.

At this stage the value bet is De Goey although they still have some interviews to do with coaches and so forth but if you wanted to have a punt he'd be a good value bet. They still have a couple of meeting to go and Taylor and Viney will make their final presentations a couple of days before the draft. I can say that a line has been ruled through Wright and Laverde as both just don't tick enough boxes.

Anyway I thought you'd be interested. If I hear anything else I'll pass it on. Reality is that a lot of the things said here are spot on the money other than the rather surprising status of De Goey.

  5. This is an after hours call too.

    ......

While medicine tries to be an exact science ,my favo corny saying to patients is doctors never say always and never say never.

He clearly has a risk that he may have recurrence and not return but there is also a chance like several notable players eg james hired that he will make it

No medical, specialist is going to more definitive

    Do you bulk bill?

    Thanks Doctor.

Agree with the bolded statement. I dont know why posters are making definitive opinions about JTs future when its so uncertain.

Definitely a case of we will have to see what happens.......

Good luck to the kid......he deserves it in spades.

  7. Personally i do not like Foxtel, I will not buy any Rupert Murdoch product .........

There you go again. Your personal preferences for Foxtel are irrelevant.

I can't see how MFC gets shafted given we get poor crowds to the games, play terrible football to watch, lose regularly and have a small and increasingly disinterested supporter base. Talk about a programming nightmare. More people watching the grass grow on Ch 31 than watching MFC. Unless we played the Pies nearly every MFC game would be a loss outcome for Foxtel and it's advertisers.

And I not sure why you are complaining about the commercials on Fox when there as bad on 7.

And the reason why you might think the minority may be benefiting from the TV rights because there the big drawing clubs that brings the viewers and fills the stadium.

The AFL needs 9 games a week to justify content for a football dedicated football changes that can broadcast repeatable football matches 24/7.

And back to the point the AFL need to ensure a good rights outcome.....it's a key need for MFCs survival.

  8. Putting JT on the rookie list now, allows us to use #40 in the draft. Allows us a Oscar Mcdonald, Nathan Drummond or Tom Wilkinson selection.

JT is unlikely to play in 2015 & needs the time. But it should be advised we will promote JT back once he is medically fit to play post 2015.

He is not contracted past 2015 season and I would not want to make any undertakings at this point beyond his current contract.

He is no certainty play again at a sustained capable AFL level.

  9. You think we get a good deal from the broadcast rights now?

    I don't.

If what i am hearing from inside, that it may well be a 10 year contract. Then it has got to be fantastic. Otherwise 18 clubs won't survive it.

Did I say that? Why do you try to distort discussions all the time?

The commitment of the AFL to 9 games a week and 18 teams in the competition is critical ingredient to the TV rights value. And that is one of the key issues that provides some level of assurance for MFCs survival at least in the short term. We like any struggling club are not guaranteed it longer term

As far as the broadcasting rights are concerned, MFC are a poor drawing TV item that plays poor quality football. TV numbers for our games are poor like our attendances. While MFC has been good to other clubs % when they play us twice! they would barely budget a profit from hosting MFC as a home game.

A successful TV rights negotiation has been and will be critical to the future of the game to finance struggling clubs like ours. What other armchair handouts do you expect MFC to get? What's your issue with the current Broadcasting rights for MFC?

  10. Maxwell has played his one and only test disgraceful dismissal in the second innings . Park Cricketer at best

He has played 3 tests and none of them suggest that he is more than an 20/20 Wizz-Fizz cricketer.

His selection was baffling and his batting at 3 was ridiculous.

I see Boof is suggesting that Marsh and Watson could both play.

I would prefer to see Watson at three in preference to Doolan leaving Marsh at 6 as he has a future imo.

If you want to have an allrounder at 6 then i would play Watson if fit and in form.

Not sure if Marsh is just a 10km slower version of Siddle who looked like he could not blow a candle out on a windy day. Good batting effort from Marsh.

Lyon is a conundrum. Should be better in those conditions but was picked off too easily.

We took one bowler in Johnson and thought we could trick our way through. Just dumb.

Cant understand the consternation of Warner. Fought a lone hand at the top of the order without support but still average over 50. Deserves respect.

Rogers does not burn his tickets yet on one poor short tour and with no ready replacement (Hughes against spin ....puleezze).

Not a great series for Clarke and this will give some joy to his detractors who have had to consume a terrible amount of humble pie in the past twelve months.

The Indian series would be a good time to transition the gloves to the next generation from Haddin who has been a wonderful servant and fighter for Australia.

  11. Looking back nlw we were really a shambles.

He has installed a newly well ran board and a stable coaching structure with Goodwin, Roos and Mcartney.

As much I think PJ is the best CEO we have had in 30 years GIven we have had a conga line of incompetents, its a recognition that PJ is at least competent.

However, I cringe if it is true that a CEO has installed a well run board..... Poacher/game keeper.

Sure Bailey won more games than Neeld, but lets not forget it was an average of 5.5 games per year during his tenure and with drafting like that no coach after Bailey would have stood a chance.

Also trading Jonstone, delisting Yze, White, Miller and force retiring Robertson and McDonald didn't help...

Its a nice batting order even better than Australia's in Abu Dhabi!

The list Bailey took over was exhausted and the cornerstones of the side Neitz, Yze, White., Wheatley and Robbo were largely finished at AFL level. Neitz could not get his body right. White, Yze and Robbo were reduced to cheap kicks in overwhelmed sides.

FWIW, I thought the Club exited those players in a dignified manner. So many experienced players and so little to follow in the list.

Bailey was not helped by some atrocious recruiting 2001 - 2007 where we got so few quality players in that period and did not have the generation of future leaders to cover Neitz.

Junior played a lone hand in an immature list. And IMO we probably only got Junior's retirement wrong by 12 months.

  13. I don't think Bob was making the claim that Bailey was a good coach. His claim was Neelds record was inferior to Bailey. That s true.

Given Roos has a better admin structure and a better fit and capable playing list than Bailey his first year record is disappointing. It's hardly a great start for an experienced A list coach being paid a $1 million plus a year.

  14. What, for the grand total of 1.4 million?

Port Adelaide were bailed out to the tune of 9 million at the end of 2011 - all because they couldn't make enough out of their home games at footy park.

GWS and the GCS are being subsided to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars - fact.

The AFL are not paying for Jackson & Roos - we are. If you believe the AFL are - prove it.

The AFL bailed us out of Neelds, Schwabs and a number of other executives contracts. Then they put Jackson in charge.

And you can believe what you like if you think we can mysteriously fund a million plus a year contract for Roos.

And the last time I looked GWS and GCS were development clubs that had agreed allocations
