  1. It is not secret that the Demons are in near-future need of a ruckman and a defender as successors to Gawn and May. I present to you the brothers De Koning; Tom De Koning, Ruck, 201cm, 102kg, 24yrs, restricted free agent out of contract in 2025. Sam De Koning, Defender, 204cm, 97kg, 22yrs, out of contract in 2025. Carlton would be hard pressed for salary cap space by 2025 and Geelong will just be hard pressed. Am I crazy or could this be the big sentimental play that reopens our premiership window from 2026 on?
  2. I’d be interested in picking up Jack Billings. Saints are pushing him out so hardly going to cost much in draft capital. I think if we spread his 2 year contract over 3 years he’s a good james jordan replacement. Think we would like him to push into the midfield and he has ability. We need some depth in the mid with dunstan and jordan and likely harmes off our list.
  3. Brisbane’s giant ex-basketballer come forward-ruck has requested a trade to us... Unless I’ve fallen victim to one of those scam accounts. I see this as a proper win, depending on cost.
  4. According to Rucci, McAdam wants a three-year deal on the back of kicking eight goals in his last three games in 2023. The small forward and his management have reportedly been talking to the Demons and Rucci expects him to seek a trade to the club this off-season. “He has quit the Adelaide Football Club,” Rucci said on SEN SA The Run Home. “Rejecting a two-year offer when he wanted three. “He has had talks with Melbourne and will seek a trade to Melbourne.” Rucci also added that one reason for McAdam’s pending departure is differences between he and the club’s fitness staff. The forward suffered both a thigh injury and fractured cheekbone in 2023. “There are also some other issues that have emerged through the year in that there's clearly a difference of opinion or style between him and the fitness coaches of Adelaide as to what was best for his preparations and so forth,” Rucci said. “I'm not going to take sides. I've heard one element of it. I can understand the other element of it. “When you get that sort of unsettled moment in a footy club that can keep rolling along.” Rucci says McAdam will be playing for the Demons in 2024 if a trade can be done. “The key point here is that he had a two-year contract offer on the table (from Adelaide),” Rucci added. “But he doesn't believe Adelaide's the place he should be playing. “He has put out the feeler to Melbourne, they've put their arms around him, and he'll be playing for Melbourne if the trade can be done which is the next phase of all this. “But he has quit the Adelaide Football Club.” McAdam has played 50 games and has kicked 72 goals for the Crows since making his debut in 2020.
  5. Before we get to ‘winning’ the post season, what are our needs? I’d say: a ruck forward (established + developing) - replace dog an X-factor midfielder = outside run and brilliant decision maker a lockdown small defender= replace hibbo an X factor small forward - pairing with Kozzie a capable swing man utility.- flexible player that can go forward and shift up the ground as needed Some may already be on the list, but these were our holes. What are your priorities?
  6. Kevin Bartlett on Triple M has said that "Aaron Hall, whose form has wavered at various times, looks a world beater sometimes…he also could be gettable for a club that wants to come to the Suns with the right offer." Just what Melbourne we need to add to their midfield mix, can break the lines and gives the midfield some x factor.
  7. Said to be on the outer at Port Adelaide and according to Caro, the Crows and the Denons are interested. Dead set, unless there's something wrong with him physically (or mentally), I would be disappointed if we didn't chase him hard.
  8. Rumor going around that we are looking into him. I'm very keen as I think he ticks a lot of boxes with his ability to play multiple positions. Commitment seems to be a slight issue, however with Macca in his ear, I'd like to think we could get him very cheap and have something really special on our hands. I'm all for him. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-11-15/meet-tom-lamb http://www.aflplayerratings.com.au/Ratings/Player/120116/Tom-LAMB
  9. Apologize if there is already a thread for this, but couldn't see it. Anyone else notice the article on the AFL website stating despite him being contract, Freo and trying to lure Jake the snake? Given he's contracted and our lack of ruck depth i can't see it happening, but if the offer were to good to refuse i guess we'd have to consider it. Article is big men set for big moves. Sorry i couldn't get a link working.
  10. Just a thought - no rumours. Could or should we trade for pick number 1? Weideman might be a perfect pick up to play CHF in front of Hogan. If we're lucky they could develop together and be the backbone of our forward line for the next 10 years. What do you guys think? What could get it done?
  11. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-01-16/trading-against-players-will The AFL website is letting their 'journalists' have an opinion on things - this time it is whether players should be traded against their will ie. clubs can trade their contract at their will. This will lead to nothing of course, but it is a huge plank in a more even competition. I know there are a few who agree with Michael Whiting in the link above but I have to say that I have not heard a compelling argument that is congruous with the draft that we have come to be very comfortable with. Jennifer Phelan brings out the populism with 'the players have too much power' but it isn't really that - it's the ability for teams to improve themselves using the only real commodities in footy - the players.
  12. Was speaking with someone who worked at the recent National U18 champs. It was raised by someone close to them that Tom Boyd is not happy at GWS at the moment. He is not getting a game and isn't overly enamoured with being in Sydney. He is currently 3rd behind Cameron and Patton and the feeling is he wants more opportunity. It was suggested that should a Vic club be able to convince him to come back home and play for that club, that he could seek a trade from GWS. The trade would obviously be costly- very high pick and possibly a player but if Boyd wants out then it is possible. Before anyone shoots the messenger that is all I know and thought it a worthy topic. I won't betray my source but they are heavily involved at that top level and their information was from a reliable source close to Boyd himself. I can only hope that if true Melbourne are into him big time...

    Josh Toy

Junior star set to quit Suns for Victorian club Likely to be traded. What say the people who saw him in juniors?
  14. Doggies are pretty close to being just as bad as we were last year, the main difference being they won our game. They have picks 5 + 6 and we could use one, while the doggies could use a forward line. Martin + petterd + sylvia + pick #20 for pick # 6 One mobile big man, one marking medium tall and a classy flanker/ mid type Maybe wishful thinking but it fills some of their needs and other than sylvia the others are easy replaced sylvia would be a loss but to get something good you must give something good
  15. The trade window, circa 1936: 'Hughes then floated an idea: "I think you could probably have Len's brother Norm. But he's a bit slow for the half forward flank."' (from The Red Fox). These sentences have been in my mind for the past couple of weeks and it made me wonder what other catastrophes have been narrowly avoided. Can you think of any other examples of trades that fell through (rumoured or otherwise), leaving you wiping your brow with relief?
  16. With the recent departure of Moloney it raises a question in my mind. How are we going to attract new players to the club? We've made a play for Boak, don't know how it's holding up. Some of us would like to see Josh Caddy in the Red and Blue in 2013 as well. But 2012 was a really poor year. What would make a player join a club that, if not for GWS and GCS, probably would've only had 1 win for the year? Money isn't much of a problem as we have a fair amount of room in our salary cap. Can we still convince others that we are heading in the right direction? Or will they see the departure of Moloney as a steer clear sign? What do we have to do to put ourselves above other clubs in preparation for and during the trading period to lure players to this great and proud club?
  17. I would like to know everyones opinions on where you think Melbourne is going this off season with new players and players that will leave please format your comments like below: Coming to Club: Leaving club: Comment: How will Melbourne benefit: look forward to hearing from you guys!
  18. Please make all Drafting and Trading discussion in this board: http://demonland.com...-trading-board/ I have moved all current draft and trade talk there.
  19. With all the talk about our recent drafting, I thought it might be interesting to look at how we have fared at the trade table over the last 5 years given enough time has passed to allow judgement on most of these trades. Also, thought it might be interesting given we have declared that we may be looking to trade actively this year. 2011 In: Mitch Clark Out: Pick 12 (Sam Docherty) in: Pick 52 (Josh Tynan) Out: Matthew Warnock Verdict: obviously it is hard to tell what guys around pick 12 from last year's draft are going to go on to do, but the way Mitch Clark has performed this year and given his relatively young age, this one obviously gets a big tick. As for the Warnock trade, it was always a bit of a nothing trade, but given Warnock looked to have no real future at Melbourne and Tynan even impressed enough over his first pre-season to earn a game in Round 1, this one gets a tick aswell. 2010 In: Pick 53 (Tom McDonald) Out: Kyle Cheney, Pick 66 (Paul Puopolo) Verdict: Cheney seemed like decent depth at Melbourne and when he was traded for a very low pick I was a little suprised. But given Prendergast got this pick about as perfect as he could of given the scarce pickings at that end of the draft, it gets a tick also. Interestingly, Hawthorn also did well picking up Puopolo, so turned out to a bit of a win-win. 2009 In: Pick 11 (Jordan Gysberts) Out: Brock McLean Verdict: a big one at the time, as a player who was earmarked as a future captain of the club was traded. McLean by this stage had slowed to snail's pace and has done very little at Carlton since his move. I still have reservations about the player Gysberts can become, but getting pick 11 for McLean was the perfect case of selling at the right time. 2008 N/A 2007 In: John Meesen Out: Pick 38 (Myke Cook) In: Pick 14 (Jack Grimes) Out: Travis Johnstone Verdict: the Meesen trade didn't work out. For one, Meesen looked out of his depth even at VFL level at times, before injury got to him, and given a mid level pick was given up for him, it is obviously a flop. The Travis Johnstone trade on the other hand was another masterstroke, not only did they get rid of an ageing and mentally flakey individual, but drafted a player who is captain of the club at the age of 22. So overall, in the last 5 years, we have managed to stuff up just 1 trade, which only came at a relatively low cost. At the same time, we have done some very good bigger deals, both trading players out (McLean, Johnstone) and trading players in (Clark). Hopefully that inspires a little confidence going into trade week this year.
  20. What about this scenario re the Jack Viney draft scenario: We trade away our first round pick for a quality mid, our compo picks cant be used for father/son draft, we pick up Jack in the 2nd round Any thoughts ???
