  1. Met a mate at the races who knows the Jefferson family well. Family has been running the Jefferson Ford car sales business for about 40 years. They are big supporters of Collegians in the VAFA where the father was a top player. Matthew has been a leading junior footballer both at school (Wesley College) and with Ashburton in the Yarra Valley Junior Football League (he was in their interleague side with Elijah Tsatas and Ollie Sestan) and various representative sides from Oakleigh Chargers to Vic Metro in the National Championships. Reckons he needs 12 months in the AFL system and he’ll be a gun.

Bit harsh to single out Garry and almost imply he is complicit with the racist remarks. I don’t see the role of a radio person to be the moral police for every moron that calls in.

should he have said something. Yeah I reckon but the issue here is with the caller

The comperes and producers are responsible for what goes out to air and it needed nothing more that for one of the comperes to say that John’s comments were neither acceptable or funny. And being in control throughout means they can comment after the segment as well.

I understand that people have complained to the station and no action to date has been taken. The offending audio was still on their site this morning. Something should be done by the station and by the comperes sooner rather than later..

wtf are freo doing?, adelaide are out (strauchan and butts upgrades), pies-eagles-saints in a good spot

I don't quite understand why we have three picks left. We only have two vacancies on our list of which Kade Chandler's upgrade will take up pick 73. Pick 38 will be used tonight and that should be it.

Both grand finalists had to play through all four weeks of the finals due to them losing their qualifying final matches.

What the highlighted part means is that even if we made it into the finals in 2020 and even if we beat the Saints in the elimination final, our semi final opponents would have been either Richmond or Geelong and they were both far too hot for us at that stage of the proceedings. We’ll never know for sure but I don’t feel we were quite ready.

  5. Take nothing for granted!

Looking at some recent post premiership disappointments, there was Hawthorn who surprised Geelong in 2008 to take the flag with a young side. Everyone raved about how good they were going to be but they crashed in 2009 and finished ninth with 9 wins 13 losses and a percentage of 92.5. The Bulldogs crashed their way through the 2016 finals and started 2017 well enough before messing up the second half of their season and finishing 10th with 11½ wins 10½ losses and a percentage of 97.1. Before that the 1993 Baby Bombers crashed to 10th in 1994 after everyone predicted a long dynasty ahead of them.

They all struggled after breaking through to win flags with youthful teams that were expected to kick on. I think in every case, they celebrated too long and too hard and took it for granted that they would do it again the next year but lost their hunger.

My only memories of 186 was I had the flu at the time and had been asleep when the game started. I woke up during the 2nd quarter and checked my phone to see we we're about 80 points down at the time. I avoided checking again until it was over.

I don't blame the club for sacking Bailey after that, though they probably should have sacked Schwab at the same time to.

My memories of 148 v Essendon are a lot stronger as sadly I was there that night.

Yes, lots of us sat through crap performances, yet missed out on being there in person on our day of redemption on September 25, 2021. Trusting that this will be the driver to see the club through to another one in 12 months time at the G.

Because the game has swayed more towards athleticism then actual footballers. The game simply got quicker.

The recruiting landscape changed in the mid 2000's when clubs were willing to use early picks on players who could could run quicker and jump higher then the footballer who was a bit slow but could find the ball naturally.

    Two examples for instance.

    1. Mark McGough was a 188cm 89kg who was drafted to Collingwood in the 2002 draft. Well famous for his 2002 anzac medal as an 18 year in his first year. He was an absolute ball magnet who was powerfully built, but one thing he lacked was speed and athleticism. The perfect prototype footballer that was built more for the 80's and 90's style football. He quickly got found out as each year went by when the game got quicker and the game chewed him out and spat him out.

    2. Jack Watts and Luke Jackson. Both tall and skinny players who had limited football background due to spending more time playing basketball at underage level were taken early in the draft. Watts was known for his athleticism and speed for such a tall kid. Melbourne was criticised for taking Jackson at pick 3 because they picked him on his raw potential what he may become in a few years time as Jason Taylor said his the To Hell and Back doco. His raw athleticism and good body of work that he produced in the 12 months of his draft year was the reason why Melbourne picked him instead of the likes of Lachie Ash, Caleb Serong and Hayden Young who would have been the safe and easy picks because they're more natural footballers.

We didn’t draft Dogga purely on potential alone. By the time we drafted him, he had represented WA at the Under 18 Championships for two seasons in a row (2018 & 2019) and had won under-18 All Australian selection as ruckman for the winning state in 2019. He also played for the East Fremantle Sharks Colts in those years. Before that he was in the WA Under 16s. Everyone regarded him as the prime young ruckman of the future and he weighed substantially more than 70kgs. Cheese and Chalk.

I don’t quite understand this but the club’s weekly injury report says that Jayden Hunt is a week behind where he was last week. And was supposed to be on the improve.

    Injury List: First Qualifying Final
Jayden Hunt (ankle) — 2 to 3 Weeks
    Marty Hore (knee) — Season
    Aaron Nietschke (knee) — Season
    Adam Tomlinson (knee) — Season

    Huh …

He may love the outcome but only if he is told to.
So predictable that a Geelong star will be freed.
Dangerfield was, as has a recently used term, a footy action, whereas Hawkins was undue force. Certainly far far worse than Viney.

… not to mention that it’s not a good look for football!!!!

Really hope we keep our pick 50 to draft this kid. He had what it takes and would fit into our team immediately.  Pace and skill. That’s what this draft is all about for the Dees.

With all of the NGA selections, where will our pick 50 actually fall?
