  1. The Bombers' Board has shown itself to be totally inept in its digusting treatment of Kevin Sheedy by announcing the end of his contract so far out from the end of the season. They treated a club icon like [censored] and for what? Two months later they still haven't finalised their coaching selection and the decision has almost certainly cost them a chance to get you know who. Yesterday they allowed the news on the non appointment of Neale Daniher to be leaked before he was even told about it. The draft camp is happening in less than a week's time and the trade period the week after. What an embarassment!
  2. McGregor plus National Draft Pick No. 10 for Davey would work. We would still have the capacity to trade/delist some of our KPP's/talls to firm up our list and have draft picks to entice a bigger fish.
  3. The appointment of Sheedy would accurately reflect the wishes of supporters if the poll on Demonland is a guide. Not suggesting this is a scientific survey but the results from those who have voted to date are pretty much overwhelming. The alternatives presented to readers and the votes and percentages scored at time of posting:- Kevin Sheedy 75 votes = 63.03% Chris Connolly 4 " = 3.36% Mark Riley 1 " = 0.84% Dean Bailey 13 " = 10.92% Damien Hardwick 11 " = 9.24% Still undecided 15 " = 12.61% If we spread the undecided votes around, this is how it ends up:- Kevin Sheedy 72.11% Chris Connolly 3.85% Mark Riley 0.96% Dean Bailey 13 12.50% Damien Hardwick 10.57% The coaching position isn't necessarily a popularity poll but this looks like a democratic vote from Mars to me!
  4. As distinct from this year.
  5. I get the feeling that any moment now Chilliboy is going to turn up around here. Can't wait!
  6. Riley has picked up one vote at this stage of proceedings. I didn't know he was a registered Demonlander!
  7. The voting system is democratic and therefore dependent on the vote giver's opinions on the players. It's worked fine over a number of years now and I'm sure Andy would dismiss any votes which weren't fair dinkum. He certainly doesn't have to go to any individual for approval of another person's votes.
  8. The article on afl.com.au (and what a pathetic website that is these days) announcing his appointment says the "AFL earmarked the Bombers' coach for this role a while ago", almost certainly while he was coaching the Bombers and it would seem that there will be no conflict. Nor would Sheedy undertake such a role if it prevented him from carrying out his coaching duties. It would be a plus for the club to its coach holding this post because the melbournefc colours and brand would be out in the public's face every time he performed a function for the AFL in this role. A win-win.
  9. Don't knock it becasue we need every line to look like that by Round 21.
  10. First Daniher, then Connolly, next Pagan and now Sheedy. Who's next? Terry Wallet????
  11. And where are the imbeciles who bagged Melbourne for the way in which it dealt with Neale Daniher after nearly ten years and no premiership success?
  12. I agree very much with the words "He needs our help". Even if you don't know anything about his background surely everyone in our society is aware of the problems among indigenous Australians vis a vis alcohol. Yes, we could bury our heads in the sand and say it's not our problem but if that's so why do all of our major political parties have policies aimed at assisting indigenous communties to overcome it? Also, he might be on a good earn but that in itself won't help him overcome a drinking addiction any more than Ben Cousins' big fat contract and the comfort of nice suburban family background did for his addiction. He needs our help because it's a collective problem that the country faces. Violence is one of the symptoms of the problem. I also agree that Jeff was reasonably at peace when he was playing here in Melbourne. Coming back here now might not solve his current problem but I think he would be at less risk here than over in Perth which is where those problems started for him.
  13. Thanks. Now I know why I couldn't remember who it was.
  14. Just out of interest who was the last player to wear the # 1 jumper for Melbourne?
  15. The interesting thing about injury lists is the comparison between us and our opponents this weekend:- ESSENDON: Courtenay Dempsey (hamstring) - test Dean Dick (arm) - 2 weeks Jay Neagle (foot) - 3 weeks MELBOURNE: Ben Holland (nose) - test Travis Johnstone (Achilles) - test Brent Moloney (groin) - test David Neitz (finger) - test Jared Rivers (groin/back) - 1 week Adem Yze (groin) - 1-2 weeks Daniel Hughes (groin) - 3-4 weeks Clint Bartram (knee) - indefinite Dempsey, Dick and Neagle would have played a handful of games between them while our injury list tallies hundreds of AFL games experience.
  16. B: Ward, Carroll, Holland HB: Wheatley, Bizzell, Bell C: Bruce, McDonald, Godfrey HF: Green, Robertson, Davey F: Sylvia, Neitz, Bate FOLL: White, McLean, Jones I/C: P.Johnson, Petterd, Frawley, Pickett EM: Newton, Brown, Yze IN: Pickett OUT: Johnstone (achilles)
  17. Why? Was he under an injury cloud?
  18. I agree that if we have a real crack there are about 7 or 8 more games to won. That probably won't get us higher than 11th or 12th but would at least regain some respect after the first half fiasco. Can't buy 11 out of 12 and I have a feeling that with our pathetic percentage to date, even that might not be enough.
  19. Not a bad accolade for a coach who's sitting on 0-7 ATM.
  20. Scoop's right because Carlton lost their first round pick that year.
  21. If, as you allege Newton hasn't got a ticker, why was he drafted in the first place and why was his contract renewed at the beginning of this year? Newton's set shots are one of his strengths.
  22. The site is crap. It's hard to navigate your way around it and some of the features are almost impossible to find. Not very user friendly.
  23. How well was Garland playing before he was selected?
  24. Do I dare say that had Juice played at the MCG today then there's a possibility that his accurate kicking might have had an influence on the result?
  25. How often do they line up as named these days? Newton was selected on a hbf last week but started up forward and kicked 6 goals. Do yo want to go figure?
