Can anyone help me out. When did Adelaide start playing home games at Launceston? Especially against Hawthorn. How foolish, surely they would have an advantage playing in Adelaide. Anyway, since Hawthorn are such a strong club that would never take a backward step, I am assuming that cos they wore their away jumpers Saturday and Adelaide were in their tradition home strips that it must have been the Crows home game. Or maybe some common sense was used.

An in-form Hawkins??? Very amusing. Most Geelong supporters I know wanted him dropped for most of the season. Melbourne may well have played him back into form. But back to the main point, quite possibly Melbournes effort at Geelong was better. Hard to measure. Ottens, Scarlett, Corey & Rooke missed both games, with Mooney and Hawkins missing the other night. No big deal there IMO. I would have liked Hille to play for us, as it may have helped us exploit the only thing we have over Geelong which is in the ruck. It's obvious that Geelongs depth is greater than ours, so outs like Hille, Monfries and Hooker probably hurt us more than Geelong missing players, the same way resting Scully and Trengove against the Cats, and Jurrah, Pettard etc being out hurt you against them. Yes, 54 is a smaller number than 71, but from memory I don't think at any stage Melbourne were ever "in the game" against the Cats. There were times in that 2nd quarter where Essendon were well and truly in the match. Obviously it blew out after half time, but like I said, who was better performed against the Cats is hard to measure. All I know is Geelong should win the flag this year, no questions asked. So everyone else is playing for second. Very reminiscent of 2000.

Well, it's more about where Geelong want to play, not Essendon or Collingwood. We played Geelong Round 1 at the MCG, it was Geelongs home game and drew 58,000 odd. So Geelong get bigger crowds playing Essendon at the MCG than it would at Geelong. Plus, as someone has said, hardly any Essendon supporters would get in at Geelong, so most of their crowd will be made up of Geelong members who are already paid up. Home games at the MCG give them more of the opposition supporters dollar. Get to a stage where you can guarantee drawing 60,000 to a home Geelong game at the MCG, and you'll stop having to go to Geelong.

Be prepared to be surprised. It was reported about a week ago. The AFL has pledged to support Essendon's bid to poach rugby league star Greg Inglis with a promotional arrangement similar to those of code-hoppers Israel Folau and Karmichael Hunt. Buoyed by the defection of Hunt and Folau, AFL market development manager David Matthews said the league would do all it could to financially entice Inglis to make the leap. "I don't know Greg and I don't know how well Essendon know him, but he's certainly an enormous indigenous name across New South Wales and Queensland," Matthews told SEN radio. "If there was capacity for him to do more work in the indigenous field across those two states while he was playing south, it might be something that's attractive. "If Essendon wanted to chat to us about a potential role for any of their players in helping promote the game, we'd look at it beyond what the normal contracts are."

Which is sort of what I'm saying. But the AFL are in charge, it's up to them to make Essendon change it. Essendon aren't going to do it off their own bat. But I'm sounding repetitive. Balls, I apologise if I'm not articulating my posts well enough, cos a quote like this from you "As's theory is 'well you guys have one, so just wear that and we'll be sweet."obviously shows that either you aren't actually reading what I am posting, or I'm not getting my message across clearly enough. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. At the risk of being repetitive, I'll try just one more time. People here, and I tend to agree, seem to think that the AFL approved "fat sash" jumper doesn't really differ enough from Melbournes traditional jumper. So come the Round 15 match, when Essendon is wearing that jumper and Melbourne by rights are wearing the traditional strip, we could still be faced with a jumper clash. The facts of the situation are, a new Essendon away jumper isn't going to be created before then. So to stop all the confusion and post game whinging from any parties, how about both teams wear away jumpers, and the AFL make sure that next season, and going forward, Essendon do have a better away jumper. Or Melbourne can draw lines in the sand, and stand their ground, and when James Frawley handballs to Alwyn Davey for a goal cos he thought it was Aaron, everyone can complain again. Essendon should have been made to come up with a better away jumper, agreed. Melbourne should have every right to wear a traditional jumper for home games, agreed. But until the AFL step in, and force a change, Melbourne home games involving Essendon will always cause problems. To answer one of your other points. Not sure the away jumper has to be predominately white. Richmonds has extra yellow I think. Essendons obviously has more red. If Melbourne were told it needs more white, take it up with the AFL. Again, like Collingwood, I have never had an issue with Melbourne/Sydney games if the Swans have their red shorts, and Melbourne the blue shorts. Not sure how an away jumper would be needed, but again, we are dealing with the muppets at AFL house.
-
Cool, I've only been on here for 9 years, and now I'm becoming a pest. I'm just trying to have a measured discussion about jumper clashes, and you are going off on all sorts of tangents. $5.00 charges to get into the footy? It might be a charge for a seat, as all Essendon home games at Etihad are ticketed matches. Not too sure, as I am an Essendon member with a reserved seat, it doesn't affect me. Again, if Essendon were smart enough to organise that as part of the deal, good luck to us. Anyway "Balls", I didn't actually realise Collingwood and Melbourne jumpers ever clashed, but as you point out, I'm misinformed.
-
Yep, that Collingwood reverse jumper really helps when they play North Melbourne. But no, you're right, I'm obviously the one misinformed. If Essendon away jumper is a joke, Collingwoods is an academy award winning comedy that's broken all box office records. And mate, I would love to see the red shorts back again, or what ever is needed to stop a clash. As I said, I really don't care what we wear, as long as a clash is avoided. Obviously the Essendon FC have a different view, but again, blame the AFL for giving our away jumper the all clear.
-
The point I'm making is, Essendons away jumper is what it is. We've come up with a design [unlike Collingwood] and the AFL has approved it. So now we have to deal with what we have. Everyone is carrying on about "the arrogant Bombers", well Essendon have an away strip, and will wear if told to. I think peoples anger should be at the AFL, not Essendon. I keep saying that I agree, Melbourne shouldn't have to wear an away strip for a home game, but for the sake of this match, if it turns out that Essendons away jumper doesn't differ enough from Melbournes home jumper, use common sense, and after this season, get the AFL to change Essendons away strip for future games. It ain't going to change between now and when we play you. On Sunday, common sense prevailed, well done St Kilda.

Not sure why people get so upset about this type of stuff. Who cares who gets nominated, and in the end, even the winner means nothing. Best performed young player in their first year. Big deal. Doesn't guarantee a great career. Look at some past winners and see how their careers have unfolded. Some have become champions [Riewoldt, Goodes, Cousins] and some have failed to live up to expectations [Michael Wilson, Rivers, Koschitzke, Pearce]. Yes, it's nice to be recognised in an award like this, but really, in the end, it means very little. Hopefully McKenzie gets his nomination, but whether it is in round 8 or round 22, does it really matter.
-
To be honest, I really don't care if we wear pink with purple spots, as long as it doesn't clash I'm happy. Hence why I was so impressed with St Kilda and Essendon yesterday. The Essenson board/marketing gurus/whoever have come up with our alternate jumper, the AFL have approved it, so it won't change. But from a supporters point of view, I'd actually prefer we did wear a silver or white jumper so discussions like this don't occur. But the facts are, it is what it is. I agree, not much of a change to the original, but as I said, it's AFL approved, so it won't change. Melbourne have every right to wear their home jumper at home games, but the point I was making was St Kilda chose to wear their away jumper yesterday, and it was a much better spectacle. No one is saying "oh, weren't St Kilda weak for not sticking to their guns and wearing their home jumpers". No, I'm congratulated them for doing the common sense thing.
-
Exactly. Mitchell got up off the ground and went straight for Nason, so obviously he was retaliating to something Nason had done. Whether it warranted a hair pull, who knows. Despite a few opinions on here, I don't think Mitchell is the sort of player that would pull hair without a reason. Hayden Ballantyne on the otherhand.....
-
Not sure if there was any offical call from the AFL on the St Kilda/Ess game. Maybe both clubs just used common sense. There was no clash what so ever. Really, people get too emotional about all of this type of stuff. Essendon has an away jumper, which they wore yesterday. So in July, or whenever we play Melbourne, we will wear it if Melbourne is the home team. But I congratulate St Kilda on using some common sense, also wearing an away jumper, and the result being no clash at all. If Melbourne have to also wear an away jumper against Essendon, isn't it better that both teams are in away jumpers with no clash, than Melbourne "drawing a line in the sand" and there being a clash?
-
Yep, on the back page holding that weight certainly helps. The pic on page 123 isn't anywhere near as impressive. It might take a couple of preseasons before he reaches AFL size. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen.
-
Only just heard it hey? Obviously not from Peter Rohde who just said that Port have been focusing solely on getting Burgoyne to Hawthorn and haven't even contemplated getting Mark Jamar to Port in any trade.
-
I think you are right about the PSD option. I think it's the only way SB will get to Melbourne. Port are keen on Lovett apparently, but you are probably right, especially with relation to those players ages. But Lovett would be an asset in Ports team. Averaged 21 touches a game this year, and was in the top 10 for goal assists as well as being dangerous around the goals himself. They lose Burgoyne, Lovett could step into that midfield role. This is slighlty off topic, and this is probably where I differ from most on here, Jamar isn't much chop. He is hugely overrated by most on here. Talk of getting pick 9 for him is some of the most fanciful stuff I have ever heard. Whether Port need a ruckman or not, Jamars worth to Melbourne is much greater than his worth to anyone else. If you got a 3rd round pick for him, that would be about it. I reckon Melbourne want to keep him anyway.
-
Well, if you believe the papers, Essendon has put Lovett and Pick 10 on the table for Burgoyne. I suppose the difference is that Lovett is already leaving.
-
PSD it is then. If Port are knocking back Hawthorns offer of pick 9 and a player, I really doubt pick 18 and an ordinary run of the mill player like Jamar will ticky their fancy. I still can't see Burgoyne going anywhere except Hawthorn.
-
Which would be St Kilda with pick 16 I would think.
-
or more like Melbourne aren't able to. Plus, you have so much young talent coming through, it could get dangerous. Still, we are all just guessing really, I'm sure the [censored] for tat will stop now.

Hmmmm.....fresh from the CFC website : The Carlton Football Club has advised Brendan Fevola and his management that it will be working to secure a trade that will see Brendan join another club during next week's AFL Exchange Period. The Club will make no further comment on the discussions on the future of Brendan Fevola or any other players until the Exchange Period next week and a final decision is made on his future.
-
Exactly. This may have been in response to Melbournes attempts to lure Alwyn last year. Essendon is probably one club you wouldn't want to get into this sort of battle with.
-
yeah, like he wants to play for Melbourne. Pick a realistic target perhaps. Maybe have another crack at Alwyn.
-
Yeah. As an Essendon fan, I can't say I'm exactly shattered by this news. In fact, very happy we are not locked into a 4 year deal, especially for the sort of dosh that was being reported. A great result for Aaron, IMO a good result for Essendon, and probably a good result for MFC, except for those who were originally offering Davey a two year deal. At least he will stay a one club player.
-
That may be what you want, but reality is I doubt you'll get that for Davey. You reckon Essendon overate our own, have a listen to yourself. Davey had a good season in 2009, and yes, may win your B & F in a team that won 4 games. Mind you, he wasn't rated in the top 40 players in the comp by the All-Australian selectors. Pick 10 and maybe a Leroy Jetta type is about what you are looking at. And forget Gumbleton. Essendon won't trade him, but if he goes anywhere, it will be back to WA. I actually don't know why Essendon are chasing him so hard. $2.3 mil for 4 years is way over the top for Aaron Davey. If we grab him, it's a bonus, but I wouldn't be moving heaven and earth to snare him.
-
trade Pick 18 and Jamar to Port for Pick 8.................. easily the funniest thing I have read on the internet this year. Port are knocking back Hawthorns offer of pick 9 for Burgoyne, yet they'll be happy to take Jamar and #18 for pick 8. hahaha..it's gold.
