  1. Yes, in reality if we are to get in the eight we will have to beat one or two of the elite teams as the Dogs and Tigers did last year. We will have to too. If we do, then watch out
  2. Not quite sure what you mean by this, but if he keeps up this form will certainly be in our elite for a number of years.
  3. I admit it I was wrong to start this thread. Tyson was magnificent on Sunday. Will be one of our elite players for the next ten years and next premiership. May it continue.
  4. I think this is entirely different, simply because the blow is so much worse when it simultaneously hits the back of the neck, and the face collides with the ground. That is seriously dangerous, and needs to be taken seriously.
  5. Well the presser was simply a mea culpa. "It is not me, this doesn't define me or my faith". I guess we will all see... Nothing about Jack Watts that I saw, although I was a bit late tuning in. There may have been earlier.
  6. Well ET, at least our narrative is not only getting through, but clearly hitting the mark a matter of seconds after it was posted. All I can say is "truth hurts".
  7. The fact that Jack Watts got up is irrelevant. Medicos will tell you the most dangerous place to be hit is in the back of the head which is what killed Phil Hughes. Only yesterday, a first class cricketer was hit in the back of the head in Sri Lanka, rushed to hospital, and doctors said the only reason he survived was because he was wearing one of the post Hughes modified helmets which partially protected him. Watts had no such protection, yet Rance had no compunction to put his life at risk. He should have got 8 weeks or even more. What gets on my goat is his heart-on-sleeve Christianity. Clearly the commandments are not part of his particular faith.
  8. Someone should certainly be dropped if they don't fit in to the intended match ups. It is about putting the best team on the park to beat the other team. It depends on their strengths and weaknesses. My only concern about tracca is his tank. I saw Casey on Saturday night, and he was a long way from the best afield (that was Tenners by some distance in a very ordinary display by Casey). I suspect though he is a big occasion player given his underage record, but he did not have a complete pre season, and that is why the selectors are holding him back IMHO. Nevertheless, I suspect he will play in the seniors this week.
  9. Yes, complacency is the last thing we need, and I do think at least one of our losses this year can be partially put down to decisions at the selection table. I'm thinking of leaving Dunn out when he was ready and willing to play. We need to have our best team in each week, but I accept the need to rest youngsters to keep them fresh, especially Brayshaw who I think is still suffering from the after affects of the concussion he had earlier in the year. At least he is playing like it, with nothing like the intensity he has displayed in the past. He will be back as one of our key players, but a rest and some limited time in the 2's is needed to get him right. I agree with the decision to rest Oliver, but he is definitely in our best 22, and I thought one of the reasons we did not capitalise as we should have from Max's ruck dominance was we missed his dominant clearance work. He has to be back this week. For mine: ins:. Petracca, Oliver Outs:. Brayshaw, Frost
  10. Full of concentration our Bernie. Plays the game not the mics.
  11. Especially when you consider how patient we have been with Max, to our great benefit. We will be with King. Big men take time.
  12. Both very tradable. Would get good currency on open market - Grimes in the 30-45 range (particularly given his leadership skills and experience), JKH in the 40-50 range given the dearth of small forwards in many clubs and their increased importance with the new interchange rules. It is a while since we have got real currency for our end of year compulsory delistings. Great sign of increased strength IMHO.
  13. Thought some might like this classic from the Tiges Big Footy forum. Get stuffed you port sniffing leather patches on your elbow range rover driving snow visiting afl drip fed [censored] sucker
  14. Having looked at it several times, he no more than pushed him in the chest. It was not a punch as such. He will get a fine at most.
  15. He will - even worse than Kennedy apparently - more in the Rod Grinter class!
  16. If you want to look at an outrageous gamble on the health of elite athletes just look at the olympics in Rio. My brother is close to the AOC and he says the harbour is so pulluted it is like swimming in raw sewage. This affects the rowers and the sailors, to the extent that after each practice the sailors have special chemical showers to make sure the are not affected health wise from their practice. The rowers likewise. God knows how they will manage the open water swimming events, unless they hold them far away from RIO, or in an inland lake!
  17. It could be that the Club thinks that our improved competitiveness in the next four or five years will not only attract more members but greater crowds at our games particularly those played at the MCG, both of which will substantially improve our finances. The MFC has already bet on our improvement when they used our high pick for this year, last year which allowed us to get Weideman. The only way this could be justified is if the club believed we were going to be much higher up the ladder this year and therefore would have had a lower pick. They clearly believe our improvement will come and so are making decisions about our future based in that. Smart move in my opinion, and one that is not only helping our finances but also our medium to long term competitiveness on the field.
  18. Not sure I follow these posts. I was there this morning for the second half of the session and saw no dissention or angst. I think they are good to go, especially Jeffy Gartlett. Christian will have to take his turn, although I do question the wisdom of naming him when you don't intend playing him, particularly when all the feedback is he is itching to go. Much better IMHO to hold him back for another week and unleash him when he is ready. I'm sure he is, in his own mind, comparing his treatment to Brayshaw and Oliver - they were fast tracked much quicker than him, but I would suggest are well below his quality. We need to be patient in these things, and trust the club, but it is exciting to have such potential!
  19. I think you are not only being very harsh, but also not looking to the future. We have had many instant solutions (Balm, Neeld), but we need to go through a transformation directed by people not only experienced but know what they are doing. We have that now. I have no doubt they will be successful. I'm predicting a 2018 flag....we need to be patient.
  20. Meecshum (sp?), given Goodwin's championing of him
  21. I think the Gawn/Spencer combination worked really well in that game. A fit and firing Jake may well get into the side. Most finals teams have two tall specialist ruckman who can also play forward. Max certainly can. Pederson or Frost IMHO won't cut it as part time ruckman as we move to the business end of the season
  22. RB, I share your annoyance, but the point surely is that we are at 2:2. However many "maybes" and "if only" we have we can't get away from that fact. Whateley also added "it is only two weeks since they were beaten by the Dons" to his mirth while also exclaiming "steady on, steady on". I don't think this is an unreasonable reaction. The only way to stop this is to win the games we should win consistently, and to jag a few top 8 sides. We very nearly did that against north, but at the end of the day we didn't. It will be very interesting to see the reaction in three or four weeks when they ask the question again (which they will) and we are in the eight, and everyone is starting to hop on the bandwagon
  23. Having now watched twice both our successful games against Collingwood, I think a lot of the chat on here is misdirected (although I wouldn't say that about the club itself). There are many Dees supporters (and in the media) who are screaming for Petracca's inclusion in the next round. On his display at Casey against Collingwood I can say he is some way off. His kicking more often than not missed targets, and his kicking for goal, was at best 50%. There were a number of others who have showed a greater case for inclusion: Grimes, Garland, NB, even Newton who seems to have been forgotten in this. IMHO, Grimes was by far the superior performer at Casey over the weekend of the MFC top ranking players. I know there are many on here who can't stand the guy, but on pure quality of performance he is right up there. Jack Trengove is very close behind him. This is not to say that Petracca will not be a superstar (I have no doubt he will), but not yet. The Club is managing him brilliantly, and we should all support them in that. Likewise, Weideman, he shows great poise, and great skill, but I would say next year in the ones. Meantime, I expect him to "do a Hogan" and win B&F for Casey this year. We are in very good hands, and will reap rewards in the years to come. In the meantime, we should show patience. The more we do, the closer that flag will be.
  24. The post was not meant to suggest we are certainties, because we are far from that, but to suggest big Max is scared is insulting and wrong, and flies in the face of everything he has done this year. He will compete very vigorously and hopefully successfully. To suggest otherwise is simply silly, let alone delusional.
  25. To give you some idea of what Tigers posters are saying about the Dees on Yellow and Black, I give you this gem: "Have Dusty rucking against Gawn - the latter will be too [censored]-scared to contest" This is only one of a number of equally stupid comments. Let's hope the team is just as delusional
