I just love having Whelan back in the team. He provides a calming influence and poise that only players like he Rivers and Bizzell can/did.

I don't normally get too carried away with bad umpiring, but I was seething watching today's game. I still don't know what those first free kicks of the game were paid for. What really gave me the runs and curry was early in the game when Bruce marked and then Ryan O'Keefe held on to him long after the mark was taken. It should have been a 50 metre penalty (even though Bruce still kicked the goal). But, in the last quarter Sylvia did the same thing as O'Keefe (only to a much lesser degree) which resulted in a 50 metre penalty and goal to Sydney when the game was still there for Melbourne to win. I'm not saying that Sylvia wasn't in the wrong, but that kind of inconsistency is really helping to ruin games of football.

I'm fairly sure that just being president of Carlton makes him a criminal and a cheat...

I think he is overrated if anything, especially in his first season. Not a bad player, but nothing overly special.

I've always thought that each time Melbourne lose, each of the 22 players should buy a membership for someone (i.e. a kid in the Casey area). 22 x 11 = 242 memberships.

Morphett is OK, but I was shocked to find out today that Quarters is commentating for the ABC. He has a voice that I'm just so used to hearing in a commercial setting.

I only saw the last quarter, so I can't comment on the whole game but there was one passage of play in the last with Sylvia that really worried me. McLean had the ball in the back pocket/flank kick it up to someone (can't remember who) then got the ball again and kept running eventually until there was a ball up at around Melbourne's CHF. That whole time, while Brock was running his guts out you could see Sylvia (this in on TV mind you) just jogging up following the ball but not getting in to lend a hand. It was lazy pure and simple. Like I said, he may have starred for the rest of the game but that really worried me.

If Melbourne are to win a flag in the near future then they cannot rely on McLean as the number one midfielder.
