Juice was pretty good in a tight, scrappy game. The reason he was taking so many marks up on the wing is becuase the ball just was not coming down to him.
I thought he was terrific today.
91.3% efficiency from his 23 disposals, he looked calm and collected, tens to make good decisions, was at the bottom of many packs and it was only his fourth game.
He and Martin have been two very handy pick-ups from Sandy and on a side note, of all the young defenders I believe that Martin offers the most promise.
What I don't understand is, how people (mainly the AFL) seem to think that West Sydney, or even the Gold Coast would be more financially viable than Tasmania. Just because they are bigger and more prominent areas means very little as far as I'm concerned because at the end of the day the only way that a sports team can be successful is if people actually care about the team and the code.
The AFL would have to pumper millions of dollars into establishing a team into areas where no one really cares about Aussie Rules. It's as if they think that by having an AFL team there, people will suddenly support the code.
That was probably the NRL's line of thinking when they introduced the Melbourne Storm, who despite having many years of on-field success struggle to get decent crowds and membership in Melbourne.
It also shows the impact that Stynes is having.
I'm sure that PG was fine, but he seemed to lack the charisma and personality of Jimma. In a nut-shell a club is about the people and not just the facilities, logos, brands or even club colours. That is,having the best business people in town is useless without those that can spread the word and in turn receive feedback from the other people of the club. Us.
Earlier in the year I set up a thread asking people what they can do for the MFC on the back of buying a membership for my girlfriend. Many here had a go at me saying we (club members etc.) weren't the problem, now it seems all the rage to see how much people can give back.
Go figure.
Weetra and Garland were just about equally poor at the start of the year.
What's the difference?
Garland went back to Sandy, where from all reports was consistently in the best players.
Weetra went back to Sandy and now can hardly make it into the Sandy 1's.
I agree and I hope that if there is another change that the basic red yolk on blue remains. For all the talk of image and branding, it is IMO Melbourne's most significant and recognizable feature.
While we're on lookalikes...
I posted this one over at BigFooly in their lookalike thread (the only decent thing about that site).
