This is excellent information and something I have often argued when people criticise Melbourne crowd sizes. Not everyone who goes to the footy is a club member so saying X number of members and only getting a Y crowd is irrelevant, the number of supporters a club has is a better metric for comparison.

Getting Grundy wasn’t a mistake. He was a replacement for Jackson and yatistically their output as a second ruck was very similar. Yes, Jackson was a slightly better forward but not by a lot. The problem is, we tried to mould Grundy into a player he never was going to be instead of working to his strengths as a ruck. The reliance on Gawn is unsustainable, he needed to adjust his game and spend more time forward because despite his kicking woes he can at least take a contested mark and wreaks havoc for opposition defenders in a time when we had no key forward. Without Grundy, I highly doubt we would have made top four after Gawn’s injury which in itself was increasingly valuable for us going out in straight sets again.

Except for Maynard knocking Brayshaw out.

Things we couldn’t control versus things we could. The Schache sub selection to then not even use him will go down as one of the greatest coaching failures of all time.

It’s wild to think that if we had of been playing Grundy in the team we would probably be playing in a Grand Final this weekend.

Let the record show we went times where we didn’t have any player go up for a ruck contest tonight and even worse had Petracca in the ruck. All the while Schache was the sub but never got used and Grundy sat in the stands. Gawn went forward and caused the Carlton defenders a lot of trouble (even with his poor kicking). We could have done that more with Grundy in the team or at the very least as the sub. Amateur hour.

I think I mentioned it once or 7,000 times during the year.

The issue has been with the third defender and forward selections all year.

Yep weeks? Been happening all season.

Was good to see Tomlinson play well and have the ability to free up Lever and May.

If that’s true then say he is out “managed” and not “omitted”.
