The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

Wise, you are painting yourself as one of the grinning, glass half full, "everything is great" bunch. Maybe you should meet the others somewhere in the middle hey? -
Five Dees in the AFLPA under 22 squad
faultydet replied to TeamPlayedFine39's topic in Melbourne Demons
We could have had Wines, we made a very early bid on Mills, Weitering grew up supporting us, and we also attempted to manoeuvre our way to pick up Lever, before Adelaide pounced. Footy gods, why do you hate us so???? -

I agree Wayne, but we need to keep our heads in the real world. We will pay for Hibberd, as the AFL overlords will not allow this to go to grievance. If it's our second round, lets just welcome him, and wish him the best. He will be a very good player for us. -

I see it differently D11. Just because Clark was a bust also, doesn't mean we got value for Lumumba. He has been a failure any way you look at it, especially considering Jason Taylors record since landing with us. I would love to see who he would have chosen at that pick. -

I thought we overpaid for him personally, although I suspect you are correct, in that our 3rd rd pick was never going to be enough. I always factored in the VERY high likelihood that he would serve a suspension for drugs. I was always confident that the good guys would win, once it was out of the afl's slimy hands. Oops, we also overpaid for Lamumba, and most definitely Dawes. -

And that's the way it should be, but recent experience, and essedon's dodo, caution me otherwise. I hope Redleg is correct. -
That is why I love alcohol. I normally can't brain, but if I'm over the limit, anything is possible. But really, it's such an obvious choice. Not sure if there can be any debate about it.

au contraire, we should always profit from the misdeeds of others, especially if they are advised beforehand of the authorities looking into their nefarious doings, and offered unlimited help at covering it up.

The afl hierarchy has KPI's that I'm sure include "growth of the game" ie revenue growth, as a high proportion of their bonuses. The NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB/FIFA/AFL all turn a blind eye to drugs of all types. Its MONEY. It's the single reason why I raise an eyebrow to every single winner, of every single major sport now. The afl bosses don't care, because they want more MONEY The managers don't care, because they want more MONEY The TV networks don't care, because they want more MONEY Govt doesn't care, because it wants more MONEY. Underworld types only get involved if it makes then MONEY. Just between you and I, I have a hunch it might be based on money. The exception is the fans. Lets be honest, they (majority) don't want their players tested every week, because they just want a flag.

One hundred percent Soidee. Nailed it. Although the elephant in the room is our magnificent run with injuries this year. Can it continue?

We wont. We never do. I can see it being next years first pick. I think he will let his strong personal relationship with Hibberd cloud his judgement. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't expect to be. This years second rounder should be more than enough. -
Of course they don't need to be even, but don't try telling everyone that we only deserved around 5 free kicks for an entire game. Didn't cost us the game, but was out of whack nonetheless.

I would love to have known if Goody would have done something different yesterday. Anyway, next weeks game is a dead rubber. Character test for the team. Will they turn up, or have their heads spinning for mad monday? -

Just as so many here would have said it's a blessing in disguise to have lost our first final, should we have made it through. Give a team hope and they can perform wonders. But to resist making changes yesterday that seemed to have a massive effect on the outcome, was not good enough imo. (if that's what actually happened.) And every team seems to make up the numbers if they finish 8th. That's about where we will finish next year, unless some teams implode. I wont be thinking it was good to just miss out again, if that's what happens. I was also hanging on to the finals hope for things like memberships etc. We need every boost we can get, to reach where we all aspire. *maybe mods can move all of this talk, so we dont ruin the Hibberd thread. -

Mach, if Roos was prepared to lose a game that would see us miss our first opportunity at finals for a decade, just to see if the players would make a move themselves, I would be seriously pizzed. It doesn't take an entire game to know they are not going to make the move themselves, and we have video reviews for just that thing anyway. To me, winning was the only thing that mattered yesterday. It wasn't a classroom day, it was a day to get the points. Nothing more, nothing less. -
I cringed when I read the thread title. If any loss is "the loss we needed to have", then after the decade of embarrassment we have endured, we should be absolutely invincible right now.

Geelong are on the way out, but I can still see a real whipping coming this week. The boys put the queue in the rack against the Blues when everything was on the line. Can't see a turnaround this week.

That sounds like a massive copout. We "empowered" Roos to the tune of $1.5m per year to do a job. It takes all of a couple of seconds to pick up a phone and say "Vince to Gibbs, hard tag" -

Feel free to inject a few "the's" in your posts, as it might enable us to have a clue what you are talking about. Welcome aboard. -
And if the umpires continue to [censored] us in the ass, my neighbours will surely call the police on me before the game is over.

Sometimes you can see the required intensity, and hunger for the contest even though you are a fair way behind on the scoreboard, and that always gives you hope. We are being annihilated in the contest, and are looking as flat as a tack. I have very little confidence that we can finish in front.

If it seems fair to us, you can bet it wont seem fair to the drug cheats. Must be a great offer on the table from us to shake one of them from the tree. -
I'm just cranky that we are the team who wasted pick 4 on him.
-
ok fair enough. what was his disposal % The kid hasn't got it. I dont expect this to change.

Things dont click for someone who seems as far behind what's required as Toumpas. He is light years off what is required. Even further than Watts was early on. At least he had elite foot skills. Jimmy has elite brain fades, and nothing else. I suspect you are correct with the kids v men analogy, but my question is, why cant professional recruiters spot who will fail with those qualities, and who can overcome them.
