  1. Blease will spend all of 2015 at VFL level, can almost g'tee it, as desperate for pace as Geelong are, I can't see this gamble paying off unless they simply accept having a passenger defensively in the midfield that everyone else will have to cover for...... As good as the rest of the side is, no team can afford passengers defensively in a big game final and he is not anywhere near damaging enough offensively to make up for it imo. Further, if he couldn't or was unwilling to do this under Roos, why would he start at the Cats? Good luck Sammy, hope the penny drops eventually mate! Till then I won't be losing any sleep over this move.
  2. Oh, & Evans & McKenzie were already signed for next year before 2014 started, so as much as some here would rather lotto number 53, some 18 yo in a weak draft, on our list instead of those guys, unfortunately that was never an option. Our club clearly sees blokes like Barry, Terlich, Bail and other extensions made in 2014 as more valuable than picks in the 40+ range & sadly I agree, no point replacing these blokes if there's nothing better out there to replace them with.
  3. Oh really, so confident they'll find players at those sorts of picks that they grabbed Blease to cover Varcoe & Christensen!!! Hahahahahaha Our club clearly made the decision months ago that they felt that resigning blokes like Terlich, Riley etc to 1 more year was better for the list than drafting kids into the 50's and beyond this year. Weak draft, but you can believe your 3rd hand info mate, all good.
  4. I reckon we don't, but I'm biased cause I've called it a weak draft pool for a while now.
  5. Skinny or not this kid is a go'er..... Would stick a rocket up Watts & few others on our list to see a 'skinny' (but not weak physically or mentally, just thin in the athletic mould) kid attack balls & contests despite his frame!! Obviously only if his knee checks out...... Otherwise prefer the look of Laverde more than Wright or McCartin personally.
  6. Exactly! We wouldn't 'really' reveal our hand at all, he gave a brush off answer about the top 4 that everyone's asking about because they started asking him directly about each one by one. Of course we don't want to reveal anything to st Kilda, just like st Kilda won't reveal anything till draft day either. There is nothing to gain by making announcements prematurely, especially when there is a club ahead of you, it's just not done. All other clubs who heard what Mahoney said would've walked away saying 'yep, that really gave us nothing'. I g'tee it, most would already be assuming we're looking at those 4 and potentially a few others, especially if they had some inside 'mail', regardless of whatever Mahoney said on SEN.
  7. Great call Kurt, cheers!! Very happy with this appointment, he'll have a point to prove & has more runs on the board developing afl standard youngsters than most (Bombers/Neeld development coach rumor....lol)!! ;-) Btw, to the few naysayers, he tried to change a poor culture at the doggies & got spat out, has happened to many well credentialed coaches over the years at various clubs with 'strong' poor cultures and reactionary boards to match (see handling of senior players complaints/head coach & Boyd counter manouver with respect to Griffen). He brings those lessons with him to a club who is also trying to change it's culture under Roos. Another great reason for the appointment, very relevant experience for us regardless of whether we judge his time at the Dogs as successful or not, we can learn from it as a club ourselves without repeating any of the 'mistakes'. Apparently gets along well with our current & future he's coaches too....... What's not to like here?!?!
  8. I'm laughing at this 'development' news not because I wish him to fail or any personal bitterness towards Neeld, but because I hate the Bombers & can see this as potentially another nail in their coffin under Hird. Obviously by that statement however, I don't rate Neeld much for this role. And why would I based on what I saw of him here, he was hardly brilliant with youngsters as our head coach, thrusting them into leadership roles they shouldn't have had placed on them, pushing them to play through injuries before their young bodies were ready!! Maybe he's toned it down a bit since then?!?!? Enjoy the development youngsters at EFC, he did wonders for our boy's careers!! Hahahahahaha
  9. I didn't bring it up, just setting the record straight, clubs don't grow ignoring & not learning from the past, hence the afl stepped in to right our ship with PJ. If you don't recognise the cancer you can't cut it out..... People have lived thanks to sentiment like mine. ;-p
  10. Why do I think I know more then the so called 'experts'? Cause every bloody year a whole bunch of em make terrible choices. Many times over the years I've seen independent fans make better calls then recruiters. I've also seen many fans fall in love with players who recruiters overlook that never make it (Serhat or whatever his bloody name was). As such, I use my own mind to decide, and the record in my head kills that of many recruiters of the last 10 years or so. On that (big) note(ing myself), I really rate Lever based on what I've seen & heard. Every player is a risk, and his is obviously the Reco, but if his body is right, he could easily be the biggest gun drafted this year imo. Mind you I won't be disappointed with Petracca, Brayshaw or even Laverde, if we rate them higher than Lever. I like all those blokes more than Wright & McCartin (I see both as big projects atm, neither are sure things). Anyway, in Roos we trust & all that.....
  11. Bulldust, Gardner only took the job because he thought it would further his business career and contacts. FACT. He never loved our club & did an absolutely shocking job, which ironically resulted in him not getting what he wanted out of the position. He was meant to be our Eddie (boy made good from a poor area) but unlike Eddie he possessed no passion for the task at all & just wanted to rub shoulders with the blue bloods to further himself and got found out. I agree with your point about a good CEO being needed to interface between the footy department & board, but who appoints that position? A bloody board does!! The least these guys could've done was get that most important appointment right, but instead they cost us big time with no freaking clue! How's that for intelligence? Maybe they thought too highly of themselves to see what a [censored] up they were!!
  12. I liked him as a MFC player, until the game seemed to be getting away from him & thought we scored well with pick 11 for him (too bad we drafted poorly, and don't give me that development carp, Gysberts was a dud who had us fooled in his first 2 games). Anyway, door closes on another ex MFC dud. Thanks for the $10k donation Brock, that & the st Kilda final being your finest moments as a proud MFC player. Other than that, go get f'd for what you did to us when you left, you knew exactly what you were doing to us you dirty pr1ck (just like your whinging now about how the Blues let you go hey?).
  13. Rookie list punt? Maybe, if our footy dep are keen, but other than that I don't see him being better than what we've got personally.
  14. But what about Lever?
  15. You always just shoot your mouth off with no idea idiot?
  16. That looks like them marketing him for memberships?!? I'm wrapt if the saints take him pick 1, welcome to the MFC club Petracca & Brayshaw (much as I like Lever I can recognise with his injury he may be more of a risk to take top 3).
  17. Most recent measurements from Combine had him at 194cm buddy, 192cm keeps being said by media outlets who are too lazy to update their data, he was 192cm as a bottom ager last year.
  18. I like Stretch as a prospect, but people saying he'll help our midfield next year are delusional, unless we have several injuries he & the likes of Barry will be doing bloody well to play a half dozen senior games. Further, whether it's a tall or a midfielder we take with picks 2 & 3, Roos has made it quite clear he won't throw them to the wolves. Petracca, Heeney & Brayshaw look the most ready to play senior footy next year, beyond that they are all works in progress, even McCartin who needs to get his skin folds well down & learn how to deal with afl style defenses that won't just allow him constant 1 on 1's or allow him to just play to his strengths like they did in the juniors (if he is even as good as advertised which I don't agree he is). As for Wright, Roos as also made it sound pretty clear there are reasons we won't even consider him. I believe we will simply draft the 2 best available talents as judged by out footy dep, regardless of position, as we need blokes who will develop into genuine guns with top end talent. From what little info I've heard & got that mean 2 of Petracca/Brayshaw/Lever. I don't buy that BS article from WA about pumping Pickett's tyres up as a potential top 3 pick, but I do think that both Lever & Pickett will be on GWS radar as havig those 3 high picks and given the amount of talent already stockpiled means they can take bigger gambles on who's going to become guns a year or 2 down the line. I have also heard the Pies are interested in Lever at pick 5 after they fell in love with Bontempelli last year and they still want another potential gun BIG mid prospect. Those 3 in Petracca, Brayshaw & Lever are simply footballers, anywhere on the ground, natural talents who (injuries aside) look like they'll really impact a game of footy as they develop further.
  19. Was that supposed to be impressive? He would have a more entertaining 'bloopers' video out there surely?!? I g'tee we won't bother picking him up, if we wanted him we could've already done it for a bag of chips with Garlett, it was reported we looked into both at the start of trade period, obviously Garlett committed to coming to us & whatever interest we may or may not have had in Robbo would've ceased there imo. You recruit maybe one of these types in an offseason, not 2. Garlett has much greater upside than him & I'd rather Robbo's potential spot in our 22 go to blokes like Kent, Salem, JKH, Picks 2, 3 etc, we have enough better character senior players plus Roos to guide them along with young guns Viney & Tyson. Robbo will not be a difference maker for us. The experienced recruits in Lumumba & Garlett could be however, they've shown and achieved a lot more in the past. Lastly, I know quite a few current Carlton boys very well due to their regular dining habits at a well known Carlton restaurant they frequent. He really is a DH in person, of the highest & dumbest order. Plain as day if you ever get the pleasure to get to know the man.
  20. The something ridiculous like 24% of MCC members who support us hurts us greatly in terms $. That's been slightly corrected the last few years...... Premierships = babies, we need to start winning so supporters start procreating!! Lol
  21. Just out of curiosity, can any of the more knowledgeable blokes who follow the TAC answer who out of Lever & McCartin had the better year as a 17 year old? Not saying that should in any way determine anything between the 2, I just didn't follow the draft & tac stuff as much last year & when I did was only concerned with who was going to available for that years draft. I know I'm just asking for opinions but am interested to hear what those who saw then both last year when both were uninjured thought then. Cheers
  22. A graders in any position imo, best available whoever we deem that to be. And I think that would be Roosy's thinking, but what do I know?
  23. With our current selectors yes, I'm fairly confident in whatever decision they make, and I'll settle for 'ready to go', it would be a start that's for sure ;-)
  24. I agree, this bloke is the next best mid. But Lever is still the better player imo and should not be pigeon holed as just a backman at this stage. Hodge doesn't just play half back, on GF day he was everywhere & put his stamp on every contest wherever it took place!
  25. We knocked back essendon's pick 5 for Garland the year they took Hurley..... I wonder if we would've taken Hurley also? I was glad we kept Garlo at the time, although not so sure now. In saying that, I'm glad we kept Howe. Natural footballer who did learn a few things under Roos in 2014 & I'm expecting him to take those lessons and apply them going forward, big year ahead for him. A last minute trade for a contracted player is dumb unless its already known whether that player is willing to move to that club as the player has to consent it. And I doubt any of they players they targeted would've been able to make the leap to the western burbs of Sydney without a bit of time to consider, even for large contract extensions.
