I am just happy that Gary Lyon isn't stuffing us up any longer and is not involved. To have a former football director consistently tip against Melbourne each week must be seen as such a slight to both coaches and players alike!

My take on the MFC.. and the past two years..
CBDees replied to Grimseyisgod's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interesting reading these posts and then comparing them with those pre-season. I like many others thought that (midfield aside) we had such a strong list and depth at last that both MFC and Casey would both be firing. Having Hogan at Casey and lacking Clark and Dawes both playing as team is a major setback to our chances. I don't believe that it is Neeld; I think that we all over-estimated the cattle and the coach is always the soft target (now Cs has gone)! Losing Rivers and Moloney also did not help. -
I would add Watts and Davey as the final two on the forward line (though most on Demonlandvmight not agree which is your right)!
-
Watching these posts from Venice and seeing people slam Bail, Mckenzie and some others that Neild inherited, nobody is praising him for having a say in the selection of Matt Joes, Kent, Terlich, Dawes, Viney and Hogan. People would prefer to focus on Rodan rather than give Neeld any credit at all.

Am watching the posts from Venice! Keep up the commentary.

And Kyle Cheney was close to BOG for Hawthorn today!

Isn't Silvana who kicked the equaliser goal ex-Casey? [Another one who went under the radar]
-
All these posts do is make something a self-fulfilling phophesy, much like the debate on what the penalty would be for tanking. if we all stopped talking about it, it just might not happen [same thing with Watts and Sylvia]!
-
The Suns got Warnock from us as Full-back! Surely that is enough?
-
It has taken seven rounds but pleased to see Demonlanders are finally keeping Davey in the team!
-
The margin would have been bigger if we didn't have Pederson down back.
-
Jake Spencer? (You cannot be serious!)

As you can see, Sylvia features in my eclectic group of favourite players. When he is on fire he is exciting to watch and can fire up others. He does not shirk and brings others along with him. Sure he can be hot and cold but we have few players on our list (Howe is another) who can surprise us with those freakish goals when we need it most. I was also a great fan of Moloney (pre-2012) and he is now showing at Brisbane why we needed a core of guys like him and Rivers to add depth (c.f Gillies & Co.).

Richmond have a permanent claim on ninth. It is the only honrable thing to assist them in regaining their rightful position though alas I don't think that we can help.
-
Thirty six young athletic women on the field is something to look at! [i think that it would be a better sight for my aging eyes than watching Melbourne has been this year!]
-
We got Moloney from Geelong and in my opinion he should still be playing in the centre for us with the same intensity that he played in 2011. it is a massive shame that he did not get Neeld and now he is one of the key midfielders for Brisbane!

We missed out on Hannath because we did not have a pick left by the pre-season draft (Rodan?). Surpised that you didn't mention Steph Martin in your sum-up?

INTO DARKNESS: THE BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS
CBDees replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Howe was better than last week when he was non-existent. Jones [x2], Viney and Garland worked hard all day but the AFL App has Viney has one of our worst. Don't beleive statistics! -
Many have short memories of his second half year performances in the backline last year and the multiple goals that he kicked in the NAB Cup this year in the forward line. Personally I think that Sellar has some upside and he won't be our worst player on Sunday. Howe was arguably our worst player last weekend but nobody is calling for his head or suggesting he be dropped on the basis of form!

I endorse the announcement Neeld and the coaching panel should not rush into promotion of Magner. We have an option of automatically promoting a rookie half-year and if Magner was judged to be our saviour in 2013 then they would of elevated him after last season. Taking our time, it lets Neeld get a better appreciation of Clisby and the other two in case one of these is more strategically advantageous in the short term.

This is not a given although they do have the capacity to elevate one of their four rookies. If they had decided it was Magner then it would on featured in the press release!
-
We couldn't of picked up Hannath because he wasn't an option when we picked up the others in the trading period. Our mistake was picking up one player too many in the trading period and not allowing ourselves a pick in the pre-season draft. It was a little naive to think that the others would leeave him so that we could take him as a rookie. And as for Magner, we had to upgrade Evans and Nicholson from the rookie list otherwise we could not retain them any longer on our rookie list (Couch and Magner were not threatened). It is all hypothetical but the selection lads thought it seemed to fill gaps in our list at the time. The loss of Rivers and Moloney (i.e the 2011 Moloney not the 2012 Moloney) was where we erred.

Frankly, I would like to see Davey come back in as he was far from the worst in the games he has played this year and often kicks a couple of goals when he comes on as the sub. He is also good at applying pressure and making decisions under pressure. Nobody seems to be suggesting Howe be dropped on the basis of last week's performance [where he was hardly seen].
-
I hope that they don't end up regretting bringing in Nicholson for Davey (his brother kicked 4.2 for Essendon today)!
