  1. I had forgotten about that game. A rare win against what we [wrongly] thought was a bottom side. But still most teams claim they don't try in the pre-season practice games or NAB Cup.
  2. You are not getting him confused as I have travelled in on the tram with him to an MFC AGM back in the Gutnick era. I am presuming that he is still a paid-up MFC member and his articles are without fear and favour and more objective than some other journos [such as the Collingwood President] when reporting on his own team. I think that we could do a lot worse than bringing him on board!
  3. I think that you will find that it was Greater Western Sydney playing at the MCG, (a team that has subsequently embarassed us by exposing us as the worst team in the AFL).
  4. Simple: they are ROOKIES! We had a chance to promote mid-year and went with Clisby who was an inspired choice. Surely you would not want to swap him now for Magner?
  5. More supporters were spewing after the Game!
  6. School is as irrelevant to the playing list as politics is irrelevant to football administrators yet it is useful as a 'red herring' when somebody has not got the intelligence to construct an argument!
  7. Maybe what you are saying is right but I would not rush to offload them before seeing how they perform under a new coach [and with a full pre-season in the case of Grimes and Trengove]. If we offload all our list, [especially the above players who have the potential but are not playing to it], we will actually go backwards even faster, despite somehow bringing in a few midfielders to back Jones.
  8. It is a bit late in the year to experiment, but let's try anything to improve the midfield. Surely thay couldn't accuse us of tanking for playing him out of position!
  9. The one thing that your comments have overlooked is the opinion of Roos on the upside potential of Watts as our most important player going forward. He believes that the football department/coaches to date have not developed him properly and hits that he is one of the keys to our future success.
  10. Personally I would like to see a forward line of Dawes, Clark, Hogan, Watts, Fitzy, Howe and then an elite midfield to kick it to them!
  11. At least we will be able to watch training from the Wheel.
  12. and also ME I confess!
  13. 14. Private school boys in Victoria are called 'public school boys' which is an anomoly. Watts went to Brighton Grammar School, a public/(Private) school whereas the local state/(Public) school, Brighton High [now Bighton Secondary] bred the tough guys such as Carl Ditterich and Jeff Moran.
  15. Welcome back Prodigal Son!
  16. This morning's Hun has us as one of the AFL Clubs likely to make a play for Taylor Adams (however it also quotes him as making some good friends in Sydney and it is not certain that he will leave). The paper also says that Dayle Garlett is likely to be heavily sought-after in this year's draft with one recruiter describing him as the best player, playing outside of the AFL. Thoughts on Garlett?
  17. By the reports in the Hun this morning, both Dayle Garlett and Adams (GWS) might be available as a straight draft pick-up without having to trade? Both would be ready to have an impact immediately.
  18. It is a disgrace that the AFL schedules a Melbourne 'home game' against North at Etihad (thier home ground), particularly when the filth were scheduled to play GWS at the "G" the same afternoon! Maybe they thought that the Pies vs Giants would of been a 'blockbuster'? Collingwood doesn't need the 'home ground advantage' as much as us, as evidenced by the fact that they nearly got beaten by the Giants.
  19. NO! We elevated Clisby (and hopefully we will keep him elevated next year).
  20. If we get a priority, why not take Boyd if available? After all, our much-touted forwardline is not as over abundant as much as we may like to kid ourselves. Albeit without Hogan and Clark and with minimal delivery into our 50 metre arc (due to lack of mids) we must remember that we only scored four goals yesterday and that we played another bottom eight side (at home at Etihad thanks to the AFL). Although our strategy must be to target mids, we would be remiss not to take the best available, particularly if he is a stand-out!
  21. MFC has advised Casey that Hogan will be available to them during the Finals. he deserves to play Finals because he may not get the chance later when he plays for the demons next year!
  22. Or looking at it another way, no inside 50s for 26 minutes of the first quarter!
  23. He speaks well of you [even though you cannot spell]!
  24. If we sack Demitriou [maybe for his alleged call to Evans] we should at least fine him $5Million first and claw back some of his massive renumeration which he has availed himself of whilst performing his duties such as representing the AFL at the London Olympics.
  25. The big men are still going to be prone to injuries going on past history. i am one for maintaining depth and, should the problem arise that we have a surplus of big men, then on any one day, i am sure that Casey can help us out by giving them a game.
