If that is the case we may be able to trade Selwood with one of our marginal players (Couch, Magner) who haven't and won't get a run at Melbourne? Win-Win.
-
Everybody seems to want to trade Watts, thinking that it is the solution to our midfield problems and has no downside: For those that think we should have taken Nic Natainui instead of the top-ranked Melbourne-based option, rest assured they would now be watching Nic play for Fremantle instead of West Coast, whilst Watts would be with one of our Melbourne [top eight] rivals; for those that say Watts is soft because he went to Brighton Grammar, so did Chris Dawes and nobody is saying he is a soft public schoolboy; for those that say Watts is not hard enough at the ball and we should have 22 Luke Tapscotts in our team instead, just look at their comparitive stats for both possessions and effective disposals and you will see that there is a massive difference in skill levels; (I know who Roos would prefer to keep) for those who think that as a public relations exercise we would look intelligent trading off a No. 1 draft pick in desperation, think again; for those who want to tell all the young Demon supporters with No. 4 on the back of their jumper that they are jettisoning their favourite player, make sure you can replace him first with someone who we prove as good a role model.
-
Why trade Watts? It seems that you are hell-bent onn doing it just on principle. There is every chance we may still entice Taylor Adams particularly when we have No. 2 draft pick and a high chance of a priority pick. We may also get Boyd (as a better and cheaper option than Franklin) if we are clever. Rest assured, injection of elite midfielders into our list is not dependant on jettisoning a No. 1 draft pick which IMO would make us look stupid.

The difference Roos would make (VOTE AWAY)
CBDees replied to Grimseyisgod's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think that it is as bad as many think. The trouble is we have evolved into pessimists. I am confident that with an injection of a few midfielders to augment Viney and Jones, we are not far off when one considers that Hogan and Clark are both lining up next year and Trengove etc will all have had full pre-seasons. I am a Watts fan, therefore I am classed as an optimist and if we swap Gillies back to Geelong for Rivers we will have half a chance against most teams, especially if we get a few games at the "G" on a Friday and Saturday so that our supporters flock back. -
How would the Swans feel about Jarrad Rivers returning? For a price we could part with Gillies as a sweetner [particularly as he has been a multiple goal-kicker for Casey the last few weeks]!
-
He is staying because he is one of DeeZee's favourite players [and also one of mine] and we know how to select players who will prove exciting times for the future of the Club.
-
Excited about everything posulated in the article about the people Roos may bring with him but nevertheless be nice to see a (respectful) role within the structure for Craig who has had a positive influence on the Club and who is acting as a good spokesperson since the departure of Neeld.
-
Craig said at his press conference today that Taggert will be at Geelong tonight for the Casey Final so it is doubtful that he will end up playing! Shame but he will get good finals experience at geelong albeit not AFL.
-
iT IS NICE TO SEE DAVEY PLAYING POSSIBLY HIS LAST GAME IN THE FORWARD POCKET. I HOPE THAT WE CAN EKE OUT A WIN FOR HIM [AND CRAIG]!
-
No problems at all chasing Dom Tyson and Taylor Adams but surely we can do it via a good package for Taylor and use our priority pick (if it materialises) for Dom. The idea that we have [or want to] offload Watts is a very short-sighted view. If he is worth something substantial as a trade then surely he is worth even more to keep within our structure.
-
Toumpas got 23 possessions today and was amongst our best!
-
GRIMES JUST CAUGHT WITH THE BALL FOR THE FOURTH TIME!
-
Amazing that neither were picked up by the Dees though! We never learn.
-
One has to remember that those players left in the VFL [and therefore likely to play Finals for Casey this year] will get more games under their belt by year's end and maybe even be rewarded with playing in a Grand Final or, better still, a Premiership side. With the season effectively over for Melbourne Football Club, surely the afore-mentioned scenario will prove better longterm for the development of our younger players? In the same vein, I am not sure whether the naming of Toupas back into the AFL side this week will disqualify him or not from playing VFL finals? I hope not!
-
Shame to see Jimmy T named [not that he doesn't deserve it]. Doesn't this disqualify him from the Casey finals?
-
I don't agree with your logic. Fitzy and Clisby are two players who are playing at AFL level, directly due to their work ethic at Casey! p.s. That is present tense up until Clisby got unfairly rubbed out.
-
The reality Demonlanders is that we have secured four players (five including Clisby) who geniunely have a dip and will continue to improve. As they have had different game time during the year, it is a bit unfair to merely rank them first pass the post without going 1,2, 3 and 4. It was good recuiting [compensating for the trade period fiascos] and gives us a good basis to start 2014.
-
Do you think that the AFL will give us a priority pick in this year's "HIndsight Draft"?

I don't even know what an instagram is! What was the substance of it?
-
Yes! (It was the impression I formed when I first watched him at the "G" some years ago. Frankly I was worried that this was where our midfield had descended to. My view now is completely the opposite and new rank Jones and Viney as the future building blocks of the Club.)
-
And we don't play matches anymore on Friday nights or Saturday afternoon so you can watch all the games live.
-
It could be if we get him for our 7th Round pick or as a rookie as I suspect your hypothetical is a bit tongue-in-cheek suggesting he would be No. 1 pick. If we listed him again, we could alternate him in the team with Howe and in that way at least ewe can get highlights on the evening news each week.

I also think that we would be making a big mistake to trade Watts [and lose another No. 1 draft pick] as in the long-term we will do a lot better by continuing to develop his substantial skills which got him selected in the first place. Let's all stop being armchair experts however and see what the new coach's view is!

You wouldn't need to trade Watts for Jurrah as Yuendumu has no room for Watts in their forward line. Be nice to see Jurrah back not only for your kids but also to get to get the 'big kids' back watching the game.
