Colin Sylvia is yet to decide if he will remain at Melbourne
CBDees replied to Romey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Roos has said that he wants Watts and Sylvia to stay yet has been silent on most of the rest of the list. I supect both will stay and may both have higher regard for the opinion of Roos than that of the majority of Demonlanders. -
My point is that Hawthorn have done well through picking up the top two forwards (Franklin and Roughhead) in the same draft. They have been lynchpins in the Hawks being where they are today. Better to have Boyd and Hogan in our forwardline and worrying the opposition rather than playing against us. The mids will come to us when they see who they have got to deliver to.

if you are 'playing for the jumper' (like Collingwood has the luxury of doing), let us make it a consistent [single] jumper with a bit of tradition. The only change that ever has to be made should be sponsors.

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-premiership/melbourne-could-snatch-wonderkid-tom-boyd-from-gws-if-handed-a-priority-draft-pick-by-the-afl/story-e6frf3e3-1226688390906 Most Demonland posters and commentators have been arguing that if we get pick 1 then we should trade rights to Boyd for an established midfielder. I dont't agree! If we take Boyd with our first pick and focus picks 3 and 19 on drafting/trading for quality hard-bodied midfielders we will be starting from the position of potentially having: the most potent Forwardline in the league, with Boyd and Hogan (backed by Clark, Dawes, Watts & Howe); a not-too-shabby Backline with Garland, Frawley McDonald and Grimes; the nucleus of a midfield with onballers, N. Jones, Viney, Toumpas, Silvia &Trengove (with a full pre-season & releived of captain duties); emerging quality rucks in Gawn & Spencer; and Paul Roos as coach Why wouldn't the above scenario entice serious mids to manouvre to get onboard the Dees rather than to tell their player agents to avoid us? Surely Taylor Adams and others who we may look at would find the MFC option attractive (after all Port Adelaide has shown everbody that a new coach can acheive impressive results with an established with astute manipulation during the tade/draft periods!

I only voted for Petterd on the basis of his game yesterday. With us he was always injured, inconsistent and was reputed to have had some attitude problems. Liked the way he played for Richmond yesterday though. Good effort!
-
Clarkson, an ex-Melbourne midfielder has done well at Hawthorn and didn't Todd Viney also play a role under his watch before heading to Adelaide? Is Todd completely out of the question? At least Melbourne was never embaressed by his midfield perfomance as a player [or his leadership qualities]?

We don't need a clash jumper any more than any other team. We all have distinctive jumpers to start with and the jumper pictured above look like Western Bulldogs {Footsray] more than Melbourne. Go back to Navy and Red with red socks. What is wrong with distinguishing the home and opposition teams by the colour of their shorts as always was the case? It is even more effective now that there is not a mud patch in the centre and goal square (which usually resulted in both teams shorts being black by the end of the game). And another point > Why does Collingwood get special treatment?
-
Nobody has discussed Todd Viney being groomed/mentored by Roos. What is his status in the Roos regime? it would be nice to have at least one former Melbourne champion embedded in the coaching structure!
-
Ling is being interviewed tomorrow (Sunday 8/09/13) by the MFC.
-
I think that you are boasting!
-
Which Daniher do you feel sorry for, the player or the caretaker coach?
-
Now when do we know about Cameron Ling, todd viney and everybody else in his team?
-
Alright, after 211 pages on this thread, everybody now seems confident on Roos as senior coach. Now for the other members of his team: is Cameron Ling a 'lock-in' as midfield coah (i.e. where is that at?)? what is intended for Todd viney in the scheme of things under Roos? who else is locked in and/or rumoured to make up the structure of the MFC Football Department?
-
If we get PP1 then there is no doubt that we should draft Boyd [rather than see him line up with GWS or St. Kilda]. We will still have pick 3 and 20 to trade and gun midfielders may even actively assist in the process knowing they will be coached by Roos (with Ling as the midfield coach) and have Hogan and Boyd inside 50 to deliver to!

The difference Roos would make (VOTE AWAY)
CBDees replied to Grimseyisgod's topic in Melbourne Demons
It is not only Roos [and most possibly Ling] coming onboard but if we draft Boyd, then, together with Hogan, they will motivate gun midfielders to want to join us. Every day that goes by I become more ambitious and confident of success in 2014. -
If Boyd and Hogan forced Dawes and Clark out of the side then i suspect that Casey might end up with a Premiership before us [maybe as a reward for developing Hogan for us this year]. Frankly, B&H are much likely to be long-term prospects and have much more upside as younger, fitter and absolute guns. With picks 3 & 20 left and with the prospect of some mids wanting to get onboard during the trading period, we will stilltrade/recruit some ready to go midfielders [in addition to Voney, Jones, a fitter Trengove and Toumpas each a year more developed after a pre-season under Roos]
-
That was the speediest two pages of posts that i have seen for a while!
-
A great article by the OX, mirroring what the majority of supporters also feel. With Roos, Jackson & Barrett, we will attract new sponsors and get members returning. With Hogan and (hopefully) Boyd dominating the forwardline we will attract the gun midfielders on board which we urgently need. 2014 here we come!
-
I am looking forward more to Saturday night when Rudd and McGuire both say goodnight!
-
It is quite simple really. Draft Boyd as Full Forward. Start Hogan as Centre-Half Forward! Best forward line-up in AFL history after they get a couple of years under their belts and we will have them for 10+ years particularly if we can consistently replicate our September performances of the 1950s and 1960s.
-
I like the way drdrake thinks! if we could pull off the scenario above and secure Boyd, Selwood and Adams, to augment Hogan, Watts, Viney Frawley, Garland, Trengove, Jones etc (not to mention Clark, Dawes and Howe) then we have a pretty good line up and a top 8 finish in 2014 is a very real possibility. Bring it on!
-
IMO, we might end up with picks 1 and 3 rather than 2 and 10. Should that be the case, we should use pick 1 on Boyd and pick 3 on the best ready-to-go midfielder available.

Yes. Maybe there will be an announcement tonight at the B&F?
