I like his finish to the 'mark of the week' when he bounced it off the head of an opposition player!

pantaloons, on 15 Sept 2013 - 12:40 PM, said: If we land 2-3 of the above we may still win 16 games, bearing in mind that there are still other positions on the list that Roos will fill astutely.

Why would you want Jolly for experience when we have Jamar at much the same age and also 'All-Australian'? Great idea to have us start next year with 7 players on the interchange as well but i am confident the other 17 Clubs would oppose it!
-
Roos can see the potential and vice versa. I expect big things of both of them this year and was one of the minority (on these Forums) who predicted a top 8 finish in 2014.
-
And more available since he has been delisted and we don't have to trade.

Its about time to reflect on the Free Agency period

Deeman, I see that your team next year has seven interchanges. What do you know that we don't? -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS
CBDees replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/dees-look-to-bulldogs-veteran-20130912-2tnmc.html In fact grabbing Cross for no expenditure of draft picks [as the article above in this morning's paper suggests] makes a lot of sense! -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS
CBDees replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree that we should grab Cross for minimal expenditure to make an immediate boost to our midfield, saving our low draft picks/trades for other young 'ready-to-go' midfielders who can play a longer-term role. Still keen to get however Boyd as best available if we are blessed with a (much-desreved) PP. Whatever we speculate on Demonland however, i am sure Roos will have the correct strategy mapped out before we hit the trading period. -
Or instead aren't there?
-
I see where you are coming from (like every other Demonlander) but don't think that our forwardline is as elite as you think. We cannot rely on first-year player Hogan to be the goal-kicking messiah and this year proved that our gun foward structure is comprised of players susceptible to injuries. Much as we need mids, there is nothing wrong with having the two hottest (& youngest) forwards in the AFL both playing for the Dees (otherwise we have a Boyd/Cameron forwardline at GWS for the next decade a la Hawthorn with Franklin and Roughead).
-
Did we have to delist all these guys before the trading period or could we have retained them a bit longer and tried to trade them? (Better to trade one or two of our least preferred players than be forced to release one of our emerging/established key players)!
-
Tom Boyd to come to us (because the AFL refused to bow to the pressure from the other 17 Clubs to not give us a PP) and next year's Coleman medal to be shared between Hogan and Boyd (both accepting the award in MFC guernseys)!
-
For us it is coming up smelling like roses but for the other 17 clubs theyare smelling fear (their Demons). 12 months ago they would not all be paranoid about the likelihood of a team with two wins (or 6 in two years) getting a priority pick now they are terrified of the consequences should the AFL act in the way their policy is intended.
-
I fully agree with all of the above. When we were a powerful club in the 1950s and 1960s we were the MCCFC, based at the "G" and all other teams had to play on their own grounds (such as victoria Park). The league owes us heaps for progressively undermining our competitive strengths and a PP is the least they could do to make amends!

Colin Sylvia is yet to decide if he will remain at Melbourne
CBDees replied to Romey's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am one of those prepared to back Roos judgement on Sylvia and Watts. Bring on 2014! -
Jnr MacDonald knocked back coaching gig at dees
CBDees replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
What about Todd Viney as midfield coach? He has certainly imparted something to his son, either directly or indirectly! If Cameron Ling is out of the question, why not inject a former Melbourne Captain with a fearless approach and keep some MFC tradition amongst our largely-imported coaching structure. (p.s. He has also had experience at Hawthorn with Clarkson and Adelaide and knows the players backwards, especially Jake) -
2014 Melbourne Skipper...who should it be??
CBDees replied to Deemolition's topic in Melbourne Demons
I go for the injury-free line. The captain should be on the field every week and playing in the thick of it so that he can inspire: it is a no-brainer > Jones! Hopefully with a few midfielders injected and a new coaching regime, Frawley and Garland may not see as much down there end! -
Also confirmed by Ross Campbell on 3AW (Rumour File) this morning that we would not be getting a priority pick! He seemed pretty adamant.

89kg versus 74kg (Aish) convinces me. We don't want another Gysberts (who is now relegated to Werribee).
-
Rumors getting stronger that we will not be recieving a priority pick so maybe a few posters should think again!
-
Ross Campbell (aka Stevenson) on this morning's 3AW 'Rumour File' said quite emphatically that Melbourne would not be receiving a priority pick!
-
Why don't we wait until trade period and discover why Roos wants Watts to stay? I suggest that his assessment of our list may be better-informed than our views (even though i regard Swallow as an excellent pick-up if we can achieve it)?
-
Love to get Aish with his elite skills (a la Toumpas) but it worries me getting another 74kg player into the side and repeating our Jordan Gysberts saga (even though he played well for Werribee last weekend).
-
p.s. i desparetly want us to get Taylor Adams and some hard-bodied mids but it will be much easier to entice him/them to a team with both Hogan and Boyd in the forwardline and Roos as coach!

Demonlanders, as much as we are desparate for mids, I don't want to be playing against Boyd for the next decade (especially when we wont have Frawley and Garland for that latter years. Draft Boyd and make Boyd and Hogan another teams match-up problem (as the mids will sort themselves out).
