Interesting how Scharenberg has drifted back in the Demonland poll though it is no surprise that Freeman has firmed again. They were running neck to neck for a brief time when somebody first suggested that Scharenberg may be a real chance.

Are you sure that we are only eligible for four rookies as I thought that some teams had six? What is it that qualifies/limits teams for a specific number?
-
Neitz debuted in the backline and became a great on the forwardline. Maybe Hogan can be our greatest ever fullback?
-
Let us hope that we scrutinise our backyard at Casey as the last few years have seen tall defenders Silvagni move to Freo and Mohr to GWS and become regular players. Don't know as much about Best and Gent other than seeing them feature regularly in the best players for Casey Can KC enlighten us as to whether we shopuld consider for rookies (i.e. are they demonstrably better than Magner and Crouch were for our needs)?

If we hadn't been robbed of our rights for a Priority Pick rightfully earned on the basis of our two wins last year (by the AFL egged on by 17 Clubs jealous of Hogan) then we would have both Boyd and Hogan (plus pick 3 to trade for Dyson). We have been dealt a major injustice IMO!

Rating 2014 - 99% sure it wont be about the wins & losses

It all depends in what direction the ball leaves the midfield! -
It was just wishful thinking!

As long as all the teams who have planned to nab Zac before our pick No. 40 realise that they only have him for two years to get him AFL-hardened before he comes back here to play with his older brother!

Yes all we need do now is remove the AFL logo! -
There is a lot of debate about who we end up with at pick 9 but rest assured I am confident that Roos will make a very astute pick. I am now more interested in picks #40 and #57 where we are less certain the chouce left available.

From reading Emma's summary and the various "Phantom Draft"s floating about, we are destined to recruit a very good midfileder to add to those already secured during the trade period. Freeman and Salem both sound good,as do many others (even Zac Jones). I am sure that Roos will make an astute selection, not only with pick No. 9 but also with picks #40 and #57. Let us hope that they are all developed enough to be in contention for Round 1 2014.

I wasn't aware that Neeld was in favour of the Jones Bros. playing through our midfield but if he was then maybe we underestimated him!

It was quite a conflicted analysis of Dunstan. On one hand he focused on how he was SA MVP and then he spent considerable time outlining the areas which Dunstan does not excel in. Personally I would be surprised if we went for him next Thursday.

Whatever way it falls we seem destined to get a good 200 game midfielder.

Is there anybody covering the draft free-to-air?

Pasted below: ENJOY! Inside midfielder: Slow, with a head like a block of concrete. Keeps sticking it at the bottom of packs to win the footy. Every team needs one. Outside midfielder: Quick, because he’s terrified. Sleeps with a night light. Can hit targets. Classy midfielder: Went to a private school. Prototype player: Could be a once-in-a-generation player. Dear God, don’t let Melbourne draft him. Luke Ball type: Kicks both feet, neither more than 30 metres. Big bodied midfielder: Was a full forward until he was 15, then he stopped growing. Now we hope he can run. Next pick after Richmond: Probably the greatest player of his era. Potential leader: Massive ego. Great football brain: Slow, but knows where to jog to and how to open up a game with accurate passes. Ready to play next year: Drafted by GWS or Melbourne. Like a young Joel Selwood: Never seen a kid get so many free kicks. It’s like he has pictures of the umpires with goats or something. Project player: Look, we drafted him because he’s tall. So uncoordinated, he can’t even ride a bike. Late developing: Weighs 30kg dripping wet. We’re going to feed him Hungry Jacks for three years and see where we get. Hands like Diesel Williams: Kicks like James Manson. Came to football late: If he makes it, Bruce McAvaney will bang on about his soccer / basketball / lacrosse / rugby / fencing past until you want to stick a fork in your eye. Raw: All knees and elbows, this year in a TAC Cup game, he kicked a beautiful running goal, but to the wrong end. Unfashionable: Fat, but very good player. Probably smokes. Is over 20: This is such a terrible draft, now we’e going through our back books. Massive tank: Can’t kick. Or find the football. Or tackle. Or follow team rules. But he runs like Forrest Gump. Athlete: As above, but better looking. Needs to build endurance: And stop getting on the gas with his mates every Friday night. Power forward: His parents took out a second mortgage just to feed him. Aptitude testing is unclear on whether he is smarter than a labrador or not. Makes a contest: Can’t take a contested mark. Keeps on presenting: Can’t take an uncontested mark. Plays tall: Is short. Rarely beaten in a contest: Good at hiding free kicks. Can go forward or back: We’ve tried both. Neither is flash. Mobile utility: As above, but on flanks. Draft bolter: Hidden by one of the clubs in schoolboy football. Will be a champion. Second chance: Can he stop turning up to training drunk this time?

Actually the more I think about drafting Zac the more I warm to the idea. Initially, like most posters, I thought we should target the best "Midfileder" available, whether that be Freeman, Salem, Sheed etc and somebody who has the body to play Round 1 2014 would be a help. Then I thought that the person that we draft should be the person who we would least like to play against (viz. the Wines vs. Toumpas philosophy)! I have now settled on the idea that we should recruit the person that we want on our team rather than the opposition's, a subtle difference but the idea of having the Jones Brothers tearing up the midfield excites me! http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-20/zak-jones
-
A great leap of faith, but what about Zak Jones for pick 9 (instead of Freeman)? I am sure that we would be repaid in spades by both Jones's!
-
Why don't we take Nathan's bother: we could do a lot worse?

People on this site keep reminding others that Nat was an instant success (and maintain that we should of drafted him instead of Watts, which I disagree)! As Grundy, Kreutzer etc also highlight, you don't always have to wait years to get some return!
