  1. As I recall, some of the EFC players were used as testing subjects for some sort of study and weren't told. Whoever was running that study surely has records of what those subjects were given, dosages, timeline etc. I'll try to dig up a link. Edit: here we go: http://www.smh.com.au/afl/afl-news/bombers-players-were-treated-like-guinea-pigs-20130629-2p3x2.html Says that results were possibly passed on to external parties. If a third party was conducting a clinical trial, they MUST have data on it. Also says the EFC deny these claims, so it could all be hot air. Further clarification: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/essendon-players-not-part-of-clinical-trial-pharmaceutical-company/story-fnca0u4y-1226687451443 Looks like what I remembered were actually just 'notes' from Dank given to a clinical trial, not actually the trial itself. Still, it means Dank has some data...
  2. I'd say they might be going after their own club as well for a breach of duty of care. This whole thing is unbelievably messy, and I can't help but feel it's just going to get worse. Should have been a lawyer.
  3. Oh man. I honestly forget how good he really is. Can't wait for him to come back. Thanks YD :D
  4. You're free to disagree, this is an opinion forum. I do think you are still missing my point though. What irks me is the implied moral high ground when she states that SHE won't name the players, but tells us exactly where to find those names anyway. It seems hypocritical to me. Why not simply stick to her guns and say "we won't name them"? To answer your question, no, I don't think other journalists are wrong to name a competing paper that named the players if they did so. Unless they too, like Caro, attempted to rise above that competitor in some sort of bid for moral and journalistic superiority. This is what sticks my craw. She was singled out because I read The Age and hers was the article discussing the issue. If I had read another paper and that author had made the same comments I would have posted the same criticism. Edit: I actually studied journalism at Monash University, so yes I do feel I know what poor journalism is. In fact my course in journalism ethics was taught by a writer from The Age. This doesn't make me an expert, but it does make me sensitive to these issues when they arise.
  5. Jesse's extension would give me an 'extension'.
  6. HAHAHAHAHAHA The Phantom will save us! As long as it's not Billy Zane. I feel we have digressed somewhat from the thread's subject. However it seems that our common fear of an impending ape uprising has unified our disparate political opinions. Except D-L. I struggle to read his posts even when he ISN'T talking about a divine force. No telling how he'll react to our new Ape Overlords. I'm going to say he'll advocate rebellion with multiple fonts and styles. (Sorry D-L, opportunity was too good to pass up mate, much <3 )
  7. It was Earth all along.
  8. YET. *waits for the inevitable ape uprising*
  9. I think a lot of you have misread my criticism. I'm not bashing her for telling readers where to find the names. I'm bashing her for saying that her paper would not release the names, thereby implying that she somehow has the moral high ground, and then explicitly telling the reader where the names can be found. It's disingenuous. She should have simply said her paper would not release the names and left it at that. She did not need to point out a competing paper where the names could be found. I made no comment on the actual ethicality of releasing the names as that is a different issue.
  10. Caroline Wilson of The Age: Essendonin crisis as players named in banned drugs inquiry. "The Sunday Age has chosen not to name the 14 players." ''The club has received information that the Herald Sun is going to name players based on information within an interim and incomplete report." Basically "We won't name the Essendon players because it's unethical, but you can totally find out the names if you check out this other newspaper". How does she sleep at night? Better to say "we won't name the players" and leave it at that. To then say exactly where to find them (not that's hard) is just appallingly hypocritical. Then the HUN: Thirteen months after the drugs in sport scandal broke 12 AFL players including Essendon stars still looking for closure Names included for all to see. What a joke. Whether you agree or disagree with the the HUN disclosing the names, Caro's not so subtle breadcrumb is pretty distasteful.
  11. I hesitate to weigh in again in this thread given the angst that gets flung around, but I wanted to attend to this particular statement. The boats haven't stopped. The boats have stopped REACHING AUSTRALIA. They are still launching, it's just that they are being turned back. There's a big difference. People may still be attempting to scuttle boats or drowning or endangering their children. They're just no longer doing it in our waters because our Navy forces them back to Indonesia. So yeah, if the goal is stop the boats reaching Australia, then this is working. If the goal is stop the boats entirely, it's not. To me, it's very arbitrary to draw a line down a map and say "no boats crossed into Aussie waters therefore the boats have stopped". Like the boat magically disappears if it never crossed our border. Maybe it does. Maybe we keep them on the other side to pass the buck. Anything bad happens - hey it's not our fault! They were in Indonesian waters! It doesn't count! Nya nya nya! Arbitrarily saying that simply because no boats reached Australia that "the boats have stopped" is a fallacy. Also a tip of the hat to Ben Hur/Hannibal. A master of trolling so expert that one can be drawn into his traps even knowing that they are indeed traps.
  12. lol If it was on wikipedia, it'd be called a "stub". I really can't believe what gets published sometimes.
  13. Stumbled upon this gem this morning: Collingwood's Dane Swan reveals he and Dustin Martin are good mates Collingwood's Dane Swan reveals he and Richmond's Dustin Martin are 'good mates' Brownlow medallist Dane Swan has revealed his friendship with Richmond's Dustin Martin but insists he is not a mentor for the sometimes wayward Tiger. Swan, who has weathered his own discipline issues at Collingwood through the years, said he and Martin were ''mates''. ''We are good mates, we have dinner a bit, just chat about footy, just like mates,'' Swan said. That is the article in its entirity. I have no words. Much like this article.
  14. So it was YOU under my bed all along!
  15. My wife is of Asian descent and it frustrates me that if you saw her walking a park one day you would not classify her as a "real Aussie". I realise the implication of your post is actually praising immigrants compared to those who may be born here, but it still left a foul taste in my mouth.
  16. Wasn't ours 'New Age Caravans' or something? Hidden message?
  17. Exactly what he said. Massive scoring potential but the risks with injury and Geelong's resting policies make him a risk. I know for sure I won't be taking Bartel though. Last year he was used too much in the back pocket and it killed his SC/DT scoring. As long as he's played in the middle he's fine, but in the pocket he doesn't see the ball enough.
  18. The Google rego, it's there so I can track name changes. http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/35832-demonland-supercoach-2014-how-to-register/?p=875736
  19. 128 (AF) in his NAB cup match. I'm not sure I have the stones to pick him though, any thoughts?
  20. Sorry guys for my absence. Back on deck now. I'll be sending out league invites tomorrow. Anyone who hasn't registered (both spreadsheet and SC), please do so now so I know where to send invites.
  21. Would very much like a fantasy footy sub forum.
