Agreed that this is the more likely outcome. But can't we just pretend for a few days that the new leader will be a unifying force rather than a destructive one? In theory, Turnbull is the best of both worlds and may unify voters. Despite your scenario being much more likely, I'm going to live in a land where I believe this to be true, just so I don't have to live in the alternative. I'm sick of divisive leaders. Of course when you are proven correct my world will crash down, but dammit I'm going to be an optimist for once!

Melbourne v Essendon - NAB Challenge - 20 March, 2015
Bluey's Dad replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Must get onto it again then :D Thanks for the reminder. Back on topic, it'd be hilarious to see teams boycott Essendon games as Jabberwocky suggests. Would never happen, but would be funny to see. -
True, but it's hard to see it not getting the numbers. IMO Turnbull will be PM by Wednesday, for better or worse. At the very least he has some distance from Abbott on a lot of polices which I guess will allow him to "reboot" the government in some ways if he chooses. We know he crossed the floor on the ETS in Rudd's days, so maybe even some climate change policy could be on the table. I honestly don't know what a "small l Liberal" government would look like. I'm curious to see.

Aw here I was thinking it was a great pun. I still haven't finished season 1 yet, it's pretty good so far though. WTF is with the cabbages guy? -

lol, nice 'avatar'. Well played. -
Lol, that's why they kept Craig Thompson isn't it? To avoid losing government? Until he "left" but still voted with him.

I love the idea that one doesn't need to examine the facts if they already know the "truth". "I've already made up my mind! No evidence or fact finding required!"
-
I will always laugh at his hair though.

Still not getting how this "hiatus" disproves climate change? Those graphs, to my uneducated eye, show a significant increase in temperate since 1980. The rate of growth in average temperatures then flattens out at the end. How does this disprove that it got hotter? All I see is it not getting hotter as fast any more. If things like coral bleaching have already occurred during the period of increased heat, and we're still that hot, isn't it a good idea to try to bring the temperature back down again? Since we're already past 0.5 degrees hotter than we were, and I've read somewhere that 2 degrees is disaster territory ecologically speaking, we're already over a quarter of the way to the danger zone. Maybe we should look at ways to avoid going the whole way?

Yep, and shows that we identified a deficiency and have taken steps to correct it. I fail to see how having "recycled" players in the leadership group is a bad thing.

I'll just leave this here

Father/Son Academy Higher Draft Price Mooted
Bluey's Dad replied to daisycutter's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree because of this as well. If not for the academies, players like this would be playing different sports. I think it's better for the game as a whole if the academies stay. The reason this is an issue right now is because Heeney is apparently such a big talent and Sydney paid so little. -
Too easy to rort I reckon, just rotate the "marquee" label every year. The rich teams could pay a marquee player 5 years worth in 1 year, then peanuts, then rotate to the next one.

I'd like to confirm again for this year as well (Goobers). I'll play whatever platform is chosen, it doesn't really worry me

I have clinical depression. Diagnosed by multiple doctors. The stigma associated with this condition is not helped by people in your "circles" JVF. In fact, it is the very reason I don't tell many people. It makes things very hard, because when I experience a depressive episode and need to miss a social event or can't deliver on a promise for someone, I need to make up a flimsy excuse. I shouldn't have to. My condition, like any other medical condition, is justification enough. But I have to be careful who I tell about it because some will judge me "soft" and tell me to "suck it up". Honestly, being told your'e soft while in the middle of a low is crushing. I spend considerable time during depressive episodes working on my CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) to prevent it spiralling further out of control. When in this state, any insult, not matter how minor, can be devastating to my CBT and further undermine the self-confidence it's designed to prevent eroding. It's easier to just not tell people than risk a blow like that. It's hard to explain to people, because from the outside I just look "vacant" or "sad", and an accusation of "soft" doesn't sound that harsh. I assure you, on the inside, it's not that simple. As for the environment argument, it differs because each person's triggers are different. Some people's environments are destructive, some are supportive. I had a mix of both and had to eliminate one and focus on the other until I had the tools to properly balance my life. Clinical depression is real. People in your circles make it worse. Fortunately you seem to be in the minority, judging from other posters here. Go Dees.

I was thinking this exact thing while reading the particle. Shocked that the author didn't point out the massive difference in these two scenarios.

Rofl. Probably not the discussion DV was hoping for. Hilarious nonetheless.

Here's a thought: if found guilty, do you think the players could argue that the football club was so insular that it constituted a cult and therefore they decision-making ability was greatly impaired? I remember one of the features of a cult being the members' passionate defence of a charismatic leader despite objectively adverse consequences to those members. So maybe a clever lawyer could use this argument to make a civil case against the club? Extremely unlikely hypothetical, but I like "what-if" scenarios.

We did. The problem was we assumed "high draft picks" always equated with "best players". We were mistaken.
