Astounding. What exactly is it in the water over in Bomberland? They're all delusional.

I think you'll find that's 9. Unless you rotate after the game is over. -

Meh, we're pretty different people Wrecker. I see your point. I don't agree with it, but I get it. I find the differences in perception really interesting though. For you, a lot of social warriors are wrong in their cause, so you feel their voice is amplified when you hear it railing against a society you're (mostly) comfortable with. For me, many social warriors have just causes, so I feel like they aren't heard even when they do have a platform. It might be a generational thing, or maybe because of our differing political views, but I find it interesting nonetheless. I suspect the truth lies somewhere in the middle, but despite that, I'll still feel like some voices are marginalised and you'll feel like they are given too much free reign.

I actually thought that was what it was about. Giving someone a prominent member of society a greater platform to illicit societal change. To me that has more meaning and benefit than an award saying "well done mate, now hang up your boots and have a beer". As for an out of touch panel, I have no idea who sits on it so I can't comment. I'm more than happy for the Australian of the Year to be a rotating platform for social warriors.

HA! Interesting thought! Hawthorn go hard and win the NAB Cup, then tank all season, rotating and resting players. Their games aren't worth watching because they aren't trying. Then they get a nice easy finals run (comparatively) because of the low ladder position.

I know next to nothing about Morrison, but then I knew next to nothing about Rosie Batty before she won it either. Give him a go and see what he does with his platform. I was surprised at how much traction Batty got regarding domestic violence. Maybe Morrison can get similarly high levels of attention on society inequality, which seems to be his thing judging by his speech. I thought this was interesting given that he was head of the armed forced, traditionally not a bastion of equal opportunity. Too early to say, but we have to give him a go. Agreed Neil Daniher would have been a worthy winner as well.

Temporary solution to the quoting issue

Andy knows about it, I just thought this tip might help while it's being sorted out. -
Temporary solution to the quoting issue

I don't see the arrows, even when hovering. I have to use the source button to remove -

A lot of people have been having issues with the quote feature, where it remembers a previous quote and you can't get rid of it in your next post. I think Andy said this isn't a bug, but a feature that allows you to come back to an unfinished post and complete it later. Unfortunately it has the effect of leaving quotes in when you don't want them. There's an easy way to 'clear' the history of a post before you start a new one to avoid it. Before you start a new post, if there's a legacy quote in there you don't want, click the 'source' button in the post editing tools. Highlight everything in there and delete it. This will delete all the legacy code from your previously saved post, letting you start fresh.

lol, sounds like it was designed to provide for corrupt local sporting bodies in Eastern Europe/Africa/Latin America. So they can't just bribe a local judge or whatever. The AFL keeps good company.

That was my understanding as well.

Looking through Emma's list in hindsight, I think Viney is probably the pick of the bunch. And we got him with F/S at 26!

Even with some of them potentially launching legal action against the club? I suppose it depends on what sort of deals end up happening. If it's settled out of court then yeah, a lot might stay. But if the compo claims go to court I'd expect those players to leave.
-
I read that somewhere too. It sure will be interesting to see how many of the players take up this option. It'll allow them to walk out of the EFC and go wherever they want with no compensation for the club. If enough of them do it, Essendon could be in the poo even more next year than this year.

There could be lots of reasons behind a victim not making a statement. In Rita Panahi's article she says that she doesn't want to go through further abuse for going through with the complaint. There'd also be backlash from the self-interested AFL, likely painting her as a vapid attention-seeking reporter, picking on poor innocent Dusty.

Ah of course!
