  1. Good advice, thanks Nasher. Both the kids roll their eyes when I want to watch the footy, but like you said, it might change when they start playing the game at school. I guess my real motivation is that I want to watch the footy with them so I don't feel guilty for taking 2 and a half hours out of the day where I'm not playing with them. I already only see them for an hour before bedtime every night, I feel like weekends need to be kid time. Fortunately all four of us (wife, myself and both kids) love pokemon, so we have a great family activity to bond over. Would have loved for it to be footy, but this is pretty good too and all 4 of us are involved so it might have worked out better. I might rename his Geodude to 'Jack Viney' and see if he notices, or even just to amuse myself. For those who don't understand the reference, Geodude is essentially a rock with arms.
  2. HOW?! I tried this when my son was little and it was just a massive pain. With the noise and the cold, he was just upset the whole time. He's 5 now and I still can't get him into it. Tried watching on TV, playing it in the park, he's just not into it. I suppose I was the same when I was little, but it'd be nice to share the footy with him. I've stopped trying to force it. I guess we have pokemon in common though, so we have something to bond over Would still love to get him into footy.
  3. On a purely theoretical level Nasher, I agree. He's done his time, we move on and hope he plays well for us. But my gut doesn't feel right about it. I accept the situation, but with some unease. I feel the same way about Hibberd. I don't think there's anything rational about the feeling, it's just there.
  4. I see. Thank you Mickey. I'm just going to go scream into a pillow for a few minutes.
  5. North probably into everyone after their delistings. I wonder how long it'll take for Barrett to bring out the scattergun.
  6. Jokes on her, AFL IS a religion. Well played.
  7. I assume because they don't want to play Wiedeman and Pedo in the same team, and since Weed can't ruck yet, Watts is it.
  8. After watching the Dees v Bulldogs match, I'd give the favourites tag to Collingwood, followed by the bulldogs. Hope is going to be very, very hard to stop, and as good as Daisy is, Blackburn and Ashmore demonstrated that night that they are at her level. Doggies have Blackburn and Brennan, they will also be tough to stop. Our other maquee signing, Hickey, did not fill me with confidence.
  9. You're a silly old fart.
  10. Agreed, much harder this year as the AFL significantly reduced the Northern teams' ability to combine lower picks into an academy bid. You now need to have spots on the list equal to (or greater than?) the number of live picks in the draft I think. Very glad we were able to take advantage of it for the 1 year it was possible though, it shows our team are thinking. I'd back them in to pull off another surprise.
  11. @Nasher we have a paging system? nice! Oh and something something Declan Keilty.
  12. It can't have been Hodge. He's a 'top bloke' and a 'good guy'. They don't go around kidney punching, or throwing people into goal posts, or drink driving.
  13. I laughed, assuming you were making a joke of some kind, so I visited the AFL website to see what the ACTUAL reason was for Mumford getting off. "Tippett's right shoulder and right side of his body make contact with the turf, while his head does not hit the ground at any stage during the tackle," the MRP said in its findings. Now I am not laughing. We joked last week about the hilarious AFL/1984 similarities, but this is dead on serious "the chocolate ration has been increased" stuff. They are literally telling us something did not happen, that did, and that we have evidence for. I guess all that's missing is for some poor sap called Winston in the AFL's PR department to start erasing the footage.
  14. Yep, when I was at Haileybury they had Bob Skilton and Stuart Loewe. Both were part-time 'consultants' from memory, and Loewe played for the Bloods. They used to love to bang on about it at the open days to prospective parents. Edit: Spelling again. My parents should get a refund for my private school education.
  15. The AFL and Essendon's ability to muddy the waters and prolong the entire saga has given the average punter extreme fatigue over the whole issue. They just want it over, the care factor is now very low. There was no baying for blood after CAS's verdict, despite Essendon only ever being punished for governance breaches, and not actually for the drug taking itself. A cynic might think this was the plan from the beginning.
  16. Yep, I attended about Haileybury about 2 years before they introduced 100% funded sports scholarships. Before that, a sports scholarship would only cover a maximum 50% of school fees. I remember discussions at the time were centred around those who said academics must count for something, and we cannot 'buy' APS premierships with fully funded sports scholarships as it sacrifices the school's values. Others said we needed to 'keep up' with Xavier (and I think Carey from memory). I have a relative who was on the board at the time arguing against the change, but lost out. Apparently the school desperately wanted the sporting premierships. The mood around the coaching for the firsts teams was always extremely competitive, with extensive sports reports in the assemblies on Tuesdays following the games. Having said that, I don't think Tory Dixon, Stef Martin or Alex Silvagni were on sports scholarships at all. Martin played basketball back then from memory anyway, I think he was in the state team but that was after my time. Edit: Spelling
  17. He won't have nearly as much currency though. At GWS he had so many picks, it didn't matter if he stuffed up 50% of them. He won't have that luxury at the Blues.
  18. I disagree. Cotchin and Mitchell were the 'best and fairest' players in that year, according to how the umpires vote. Watson cheated, he doesn't deserve it, they do. I don't think it's something people will forget. Hell everyone remembers Corey McKernan and Chris Grant, and this is a far far bigger story.
  19. Who's to say he isn't posting in this very thread, trolling us and laughing is arse off? He does love a good smile, our Jesse.
  20. Yeah I really like it. He seems to be both grumpy and self-satisfied at the same time.
  21. I'm going to steal this and use it in normal conversation.
  22. Yep, I picture BBO exactly as his avatar. I'm fine if people want to picture me as David Tennant, he is a sexy, sexy man. I however do not picture Nasher as a man-fusion of Brayshaw and Petracca. To me, Nasher will always be buck nekked and dripping wet from his shower. Edit: just re-read this. I feel like it might be the most homoerotic post I've ever written. I love Demonland :D
  23. Nothing wrong with floating a rumour or postulating possibilities. That one, however, I would hope would be rejected out of hand by our admin I'd have thought.
  24. Yep, Watchman is probably #1, agreed, followed by the Dark Knight, but both of those are DC properties. Having read a lot of Deadpool, it didn't seem bold or fresh to me, it felt like an extremely loyal translation from the comics. I was really pleased with it, and really liked having an actual Russian Colossus. For some reason he was American in the other X-man movies. But yeah overall, comic book movies seem to be in decline. It's really unfortunate given there is still so much untapped potential. DC in particular has a lot of material to work with, and are only bound by the continuity of 3 films, where Marvel's movie universe has a much greater continuity burden when considering new properties. The bat family in particular is a very rich vein. BvS alluded to Jason Todd, and I'd love to see some Robins on the big screen. Before DC went and retconned the hell out of everything, they were getting to a really interesting place with Batman. He was actually starting to heal his psychological scarring by building proper relationships with his surrogate sons. A mentally healthy Batman was an interesting prospect to comic book readers who have been subject to watching Bruce get lumped with drama and death for decades. But DC squibbed it. I'd love to see an on-screen parental relationship with Bruce & Dick/Jason/Tim and see where they take it.
