Delistings/trades at end of the season
ignition. replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Fair points mate, particualry with Toumpas. I feel with our relatively young list that he could be of better value on the trade table to get a quality deal over the line. I'm not throwing him on there for the sake of it, or for any dislike, but yes if the price is right. As for Garland, he's an RFA so the concept of trading him comes at a risk. I would rather see him signed early at his market value rather than see it dragged out to the end of the year which could attract other clubs and a higher price to match if we desire the trade. If the trade falls through we'll be stuck having to pay for an overpriced Garland. -
Rather see him as a backman, he is capable of doing an incredible job. He needs some private lessons on his kicking technique, if he can improve this he'll become a massive weaopon.

Delistings/trades at end of the season

Thanks for the info, and I like your discussion on Pederson - I'll happily see him kept as well. Any idea if Michie is out of contract this year or the next? -
Delistings/trades at end of the season
ignition. replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Out of contract players: 2015 Jamar 31 (UFA), Garland 26 (RFA), McKenzie 24, Howe 24, Gawn 23, Fitzpatrick 23, Toumpas 21, Pedersen 28, Hunt 19, Cross 32, Bail 26, Riley 23, Harmes ® 19, King ® 19, White ® 18 Obtained from rpfc, 2015 contracts thread. ------------------------------------------------------- DELISTINGS: - Jamar : Gawn has become the #1 ruckman. - McKenzie : I've never really been a fan, nice bloke but not AFL standard. - Hunt : He was a wild selection on draft night and unfortunely hindered by few times by injuries, although I feel he's had his chance and the list must continue to turn over. - Bail : Similar to McKenzie, tries his heart out, good bloke, but not AFL standard. TRADE: - Howe : I would prefer to re-sign him, but if the rumours are true based on his asking price of $600k+ I would rather see that put towards poaching a gun midfieder (Dangerfield, Treloar, T.Mitchell, all gettible but hard). - Fitzpatrick : I said it a few years ago when he was re-signed, he should of been traded then while showing AFL form (Carlton were a suiter). Either way he'll be traded if he's of any value, but most likely delisted as I don't see him cracking our already tall line up. - Toumpas : He's improved yes, but unfortunitely for me I can't warm to him. For everything good he does, he's often a liability. I don't want to verbally [type] bash him, but I'll happily see him traded if the price is right. RE-SIGN: - Cross : I think he's proved his worth for another 1 year contract. I can't name anyone currently in the seconds who should play ahead of him and his training standards are brilliant, particularily for setting the benchmark for our young blokes. - Garland : He's in his prime and I want to see him re-signed, I'm of the belief that he'll re-find that 2013 form, particularily if the team lifts as a whole. UNKNOWN (these ones I can't figue out): - Pedersen : We do have a lot of tall talent. I like Pedersen, I actually consider him on par with Dawes without "the name" or "over-rating". But don't know, potental re-signing or delist, probably on the cusp. - Riley : Potentially re-sign, potentially delist, he'll be on that cusp depending on what happens surrounding trade week. - Harmes : He's had his crack at the big time, but didn't crack it for me. One game isn't a good enough indication, I hope he's given a few more opportunies, but again don't know enought about him to really comment. - King : Big men take longer, and I don't know how he's progressing in the secord nor his training standards. - White : Similar to King for me, don't know enough about him. I'm often happy to see a rookie get their second year. Please tell me your thought and let's not turn it into a "you hate Toumpas, I love Toumpas thread". -
Go follow them then...

7.18.60 Inside 50's were sh**house, won't win games from behinds. I fu**ing hate that scum (coach, players, fans, jumper, everything) but particularily the fragile x derpa derpa Daniher.

Listening to Derm drives me crazy. "awww yeah he should of done this he should of done that blah blah blah" Never thought I'd say it but I'd rather hear BT on channel 7 because at least he calls the game.

Thank you.

I hope this time the MFC website uploads a statement on behalf of the club and its supporters. I recall shortly after John McCarthy's passing every club bar ours and another uploaded a message. I recall every other club doing it in supoort of us when the great Jim Stynes passed. So please MFC, upload something this time on behalf of the club and the supporters like us who read and write on the forums. R.I.P Phil Walsh, such a tradgedy.

I'd be taking a good look at both Toumpas and Fitzpatrick. May have done some good things but both liabilities when either under pressure or if the oposition has the ball.

GAME DAY at Alice Springs - Round 9
ignition. replied to Henrietta Lumbago's topic in Melbourne Demons
These FU*KING frees against! -
Well written Luke and welcome aboard. I wrote Misson not long after Neal-Bullen's second patellar dislocation, quite frankly I was surprised how quickly he returned to training after the first incident after doing one myself a few months earlier.

For $650,000 a year any other club is free to have him, I like him but he isn't worth that price. He's a one trick pony and I would rather see that money put towards a midfielder that will spend more time seeing the ball go forward rather than Howe taking the odd mark going backwards into defence. Hell, if he's blowing that much smoke use him as trade bait to help acquire a Treloar, Shiel, Sloane, or Mitchell. Then if there's any remaining cash (e.g. from Mitchell say) use it towards a FA like Stevens, Dangerfield (unlikely), S.Selwood (cheapper due to ankle), and / or Leuenberger. 124

We'll need as much leg speed and competent midfielders as possible to match or beat GWS, so for those against the return of Vince I completely disagree. Vince for Toumpas is a no brainer. As for Frost he should be kept without a doubt. He's not only a valuable second ruck, his athleticism will be needed against Cameron and he understands best how their talls operate. McCarthy and Cameron (+ 3rd tall being Tomlinson) both need to be shut down. Garland alone can eliminate McCarthy's influence, the other three defenders (Frost, McDonald, and Dunn) either need to rotate on Cameron (similar to Geelond vs. Riewoldt during their golden years) or double-team him with one blocking his run while also picking off the incoming inside 50's to generate quick rebounds for the mids (on the basis it doesn't create headaches elsewhere). As for other defenders Salem, Jetta, and Lamumba are required to shut down their vast array of midfielders come forwards (Smith, Griffen, Greene, Palmer, etc.). I think the biggest question we should ask is, what do we want in attack? Would we prefer three tall options (Hogan, Watts, Dawes) or two at any one time. Those we should look at are JKH or Kent. Someone suggested Vandenberg but I think his high half forward role and ability to win the ball around clearance and take on the midfield is invaluable. Another option would be to drop Brayshaw and place Newton as sub as I see him as an immediate impact player but tires quickly. Decisions, decisions.

I have to agree. I've been to games in the past and focused on Watts for exteneded periods of time. There's been games where his work ethic was seriously down (as you mention), while I've also seen quite the opposite during others. Some games I've seen him work like crazy and continually lead with very little or very poor deliviery, and thus little reward or even statistical output. Either way bar the odd couple mistakes, I thought he was excellent yesterday.

Without coming across as condescending (video of kids), I remember seeing this upon Roos' arrival and thinking geez I hope he can teach us to do that. I certainly saw the spread yesterday and it was a delight to watch.

My analysis about Grimes for all of those that thought he had a bad game, kicked clangers, or was far too "flakey". Grimes: 91 percent efficient 120

With regards to "the turnaround" I think this year we will see more glimpses of Watts going to a new level. - He will spend a lot more time up forward - probably taking the 2nd or 3rd defender after Dawes and Hogan. - He's put on a few more kilos of lean muscle and just looks more physically mature with regards to his bone density and face. - He also sounds a lot more confident and enthusiastic in interviews that I believe will translate onto the field (if it didn't a little already against the Dogs on the weekend). Now I'm not getting carried away with pre-season hype, or spruiking him up to be "a star", I just think we will see some nice improvements from Watts this season and then again further next season as he'll physically develop again further. 74

Thanks P-man. Agreed, JV did make a few silly errors but I'm not or wasn't worried by him. I liked his game because of his attack and willingness to win that contested possession for us time and time again (as you eluded to above). Yes Grimes did kick one clanger that was out on the full via mark by a bees d*** in a tight situation, I find it somewhat amusing how people spot it with ease because they're looking for it, and further others claim he had a bad game because of it. However, Grimes racked up quite a few tonight and disposed them at 90.9% efficiency.

I ripped into Toumpas a little last week and I'm very pleased to say he was brilliant today, certainly was a good sight to see and I hope he continues to back it up and improve further. I did the same with Grimes and I think he produced today, he did some lovely work and I'm glad as I use to rate his "potential" highly. From an indiviidual stand point there were a lot of positives, Viney impressed me as did Salem, Jetta, McDonald and Watts up forward. Even big Maxy took some great marks. The additions of Frost (effectively replacing Frawley), Garlett, and Lamumba are looking great! As a whole the team work within the first half was fantastic, the ball movement, skill execution, and speed were excellent, what worried me about the second half was how the the team crumbled when the pressure was on. The Dogs just wanted it that little bit more. As for negatives, McKenzie shouldn't get a game in the season proper nor should Matt Jones as they are both liabilities. Viv Michie as sub (who I have rated highly) and Bail need to lift their games.
