In the 2 finals Casey played in 2023, winning the first by 100 odd points, Jefferson averaged 3 disposals, no goals and 0.5 tackles. One disposal of 3 metres his only stat in second final.

Will probably need to add to that to warrant promotion.

Can't sugar-coated that. Pretty dismal efforts for a high pick after a full season in the VFL.

Criminally underused by Goodwin & co. He should have played games when Oliver was missing, particularly ahead of Jordon. I love that he always maintained his standards at Casey, and didn't drop his bundle when it was clear that senior games weren't coming. Hopefully his recovery from injury goes well and he is back playing footy again soon.

    Agree 100%. Underutilised in 2022 & 2023.

  3. The AFL  had an opportunity to make a stand after the Angus Brayshaw incident.

They should've clearly stated that the player initiating the tackle or smother has a clear duty of care and that Maynard's action was unacceptable.

Shamefully but typically they squibbed it.

My old man who was a Collingwood supporter was recruited to Melbourne from Dandenong High School as a 15 year old and went on to captain the under 19s in the mid 50s.

He went on to play reserves for the club during the golden years but sadly never managed to play a senior game. He then left to play for Springvale in the Premier League.

The rest is history and I was born with a hand knitted red and blue jumper.

    It’s a love hate relationship.

    Interesting story Beetle.

I grew up in Dandenong in the early 60’s & followed the mighty redlegs. They wore the same jumpers as the Dees so it was an easy decision.

Geez Dandy had some great players - Alan Morrow, Hughie Mitchell, Rodney Evans, Frosty Miller et al.

Add him to the list of Melbourne players who left and subsequently returned some time later. Carl Ditterich and Gary Hardeman are on that list. Who else? (I'm ignoring WW2 which impacted on players like Bluey Truscott and maybe Jack Mueller).

Des Campbell, Des O'Dwyer, Chris Aitken, Peter Thorne

There's a reason Marty Hore was delisted two years ago (several of them actually), and nothing that he has done since in that joke of a VFL competition, will convince me that he fills any of the gaping holes in our list.

It's a really poor list management decision, unless we are trying to lift Casey back into finals contention.

Yes and the reason was injury. That's why we let him go.

Its actually a very smart list management decision.

We need experienced players at Casey mentoring the kids & keeping the seconds team competitive.

For ruck, I think the plan is "unless you have a dominant ruck, you only need someone who will compete/break even".

If Gawn goes down, I wouldn't be surprised to see us so something very field and play to ruck. Use Petracca, Joel Smith, JVR, etc.

I'm not sure it's a great option, but I think that's how the footy department sees it.

So to summarise- you believe that if Max is injured the Club plans to play Trac & Joel Smith in the ruck !

Not sure on what basis you dreamed that up but it is patently adsurd.

You may as well say that if May is injured there is a left field plan to replace him with Oliver.

Some rewriting of history going on here by some posters?

There are only four posts other than yours in this thread!

    Might as well name names.

The whole tragedy thing is absurd. The "High draft pick ruined by going to a dysfunctional Club" melodrama is pure BS.

Lots of good players get picked by struggling Clubs & still succeed.

Jack had his problems but eventually became a good player for us. If he had come to 2017 pre season better prepared instead of unfit he would now be a 200 plus game premiership player.

Where he ended up was entirely of his own making.

  9. Some rewriting of history going on here by some posters.

He actually got it together by 2016 & had become a really key player. Unfortunately he turned up for the 2017 pre season in poor shape & Goodie lost faith in him & his fate was sealed.

It does get confusing @Rab D Nesbitt as to which thread is which. As a collection of threads, I feel that  Demonland has provided us with interesting debates and insights into issues such as:

    • Racism,
    • Drugs and alcohol
    • Irish real estate

    Go Harrison, Go Dees!

And provided us with an endless supply of moralising serial windbags 🤪

Occams Razor suggests the simplest explanation.

Mine  , we just had nfi.

All players have worth...   strangely his was greater playing ...than not.

    All history now......

Every time there was a selection to be made Goodie & the BT took the conservative, stick to what has worked, option. There was a lack of boldness in our selections.

Grundy & Woewodin should have played.
