    2. Before the decision to develop Waverley Park was made, Luke had advice that the government, with Henry Bolte as Premier, had decided to build a railway line that would pass by Monash Uni and then Waverley Park;
    3. For whatever reason (budgetary, maybe?) the government had to make a decision between extending the railway line past Waverley Park or extending a different line which subsequently became the train line to Dandenong;
    4. The decision to build the train line to Dandenong was made because Bolte thought a racetrack which went via Sandown Racecourse was a better option than one that would go via a new football stadium.

If anyone can confirm or reject any of the above, feel free to do so. I'm not in a position to confirm any of them.

They expected that a train connection to VFL Park would be built but it never happened.

The Dandenong line (& Gippsland connections) were all operating many years before the footy ground was built.

  2. The BT seems to have variable standards. They love JMcV Tommo not so much.

    I thought he was ok.

Last year he had a poor patch & should have gone back to Casey but they stuck fat. Not sure that is a good strategy in the long run.

  3. The problem with OM is that he was gifted lots of games before he was ready & was never developed properly.

Our brains trust was annoyed with Lynden Dunn & dropped him for OM.

If Oscar had spent 2 or more years at Casey learning his trade he would have been handy for us.

In his early days he badly lacked the confidence that comes with experience.

i watched most games at casey when at home, and imo i dont think jeffo has it. hes quite lazy at 2nd efforts. this could come with maturity, but this is a make or break year for me. if he cant get in front of josh schache, then you have serious issues.

Correct. Reminds me of Lucas Cook who was All Australian CHF at U18 level.

If you trawl through Demonland posts you will find plenty of Lucas Cook fans insisting we play him.

I can't believe this needs to be done, but anyway:

Here's the BOM data for Sydney during game time:

    image.png.537ab9a131189ddf211cc9a9ab975c11.png

84% humidity during the game. The dew point is also a measure of moisture - it is the temperature to which air has to be cooled in order to produce condensation. The higher it is, the the more moisture in the air.

The BOM says that a dew point of 21 means the weather is "muggy, quite uncomfortable" (5-10 is "dry", 10-15 is "comfortable").

I get that you have the word "Cranky" in your username, but seriously.

Point taken I was wrong about the humidity but posters hiding behind the weather as an excuse are deluding themselves.

It was definitely slippery due to the humidity being 89%.

Dunno where you got that. The BOM site said humidity was 56% at 4.30 pm.

And I am astounded at the excuses being made here. Melbourne has been just as hot as Sydney in the last month.

It's not like we played in Darwin or Cairns.

We were rubbish & supporters should stop looking for weasel excuses.

It was dry & perfect for football.

Right and about 10 people on here that were there have stated the opposite myself included, what were you sitting in, the fridge.

Posters have been whining about wet slippery conditions making all sorts of excuses for a pathetic effort.

It was a warm night typical (24 or 25 deg) of Melbourne or Sydney in March with a 15-20k breeze blowing across the ground & bone dry.

Not wet or slippery but great football conditions.

We fumbled & slipped from the get go mainly due to our ineptness & Swans pressure not the conditions.

We have not played well in humid, slippery conditions since Roos/Goodwin took over. (We have struggled in Darwin, Cairns, Brisbane and Gold Coast.) My theory is that the slippery ball takes

IT WAS BONE DRY, PERFECT FOOTBALL CONDITIONS, WITH A NICE BREEZE BLOWING ACROSS THE GROUND & MUCH COOLER THAN MELBOURNE'S LAST MONTH. I WAS IN THE BRADMAN STAND & PUT ON A JUMPER AT HALF TIME

    People need to relax!

it’s round 1. This side is far from settled. The NQRs showed why they belong in the VFL - Schache, Laurie, Chandler and Spargo off the pace.

secondly, the humid conditions did not suit our game style at all. We fumbled all night. We should adjust in the conditions, but we never do. Over handball. It doesn’t work in wet slippery conditions. Felt like the Essendon game last year. Oliver was literally drenched at the end of the game.

Ben Brown, if fit, must come in for Schache.

I was at the ground. It was bone dry & little humidity.

  10. Some comments about the incident are getting very silly.

Maynards actions were reckless & similar to Cripps & Rioli in recent times who both managed to get off due to "technicalities". It was nothing remotely like the Wright/ Somerville incident.

The fault rests totally with the AFL & the way the rules were written and interpreted.

What the &*$^ does that mean? An all time great of the club in an era when bashing blokes behind the play was de rigueur. I saw half the games Stan played and do not recall him jibbing it once. Stan was tough - don't worry about that. Single-handedly ensured Norf won the premiership in '77. And for 90 minutes, looked like becoming a premiership coach until his bestie bested him.

Fully agree. Stan Alves was Captain, Rep player, B&F. Absolute champion & I never saw him take a backward step.

Why would someone denigrate one of our champions ?

  13. The BBB posts feels like an endless repeat of Groundhog Day.

Every few weeks someone moans about why he didn't retire then someone responds about you have to honour contracts & finally it concludes with the merits of his time at the Dees & value for money.

    I had the same thought.

Give he played almost every game, and i though was really good in the first half of the season i wonder if that points to him not always carrying out roles goody had given him?

He was a solid rather than spectacular & has lost yard of pace. Sometimes fails to take the first(and obvious) option & tries to be too cute. His underground handballs are a case in point.

I am not allowed to say that I’m surprised he’s managed to get back into training after a tragedy like that?

Look it's a sensitive issue and I'm really not having a go at you but it can imply or suggest that after a tragic event people should or should not behave in a particular way.

Everyone is different & behaves in a different way after tragedy so whatever they do should not surprise anyone.
