  1. How refreshing. Some positivity instead of the self-defeating negativity abounding elsewhere on this site.

How long can we keep this up?

Apparently that was it, thanks Rusty.

Positivity abounds in our house about the Dees. We go past the Lions Den on the way to Kindy and my son always says 'Boo Lions' on the way past. The kids wear their scarves even in the heat, and I have the flag from Queens Birthday walk last year hanging on the wall. The ladder is on the fridge and we talk each day about doing your best and working hard.

I don't get al the negativity really. If your child came home after scoring 1/100 on a maths test, would you start ranting about getting rid of their teacher, the year level coordinator and the principal because they haven't established a good learning culture? Or would you show support to your child, behave rationally and do whatever you could to HELP the situation?

  2. LLD u may live in Bris but we can show our support when the boys come up in a few wks at the game and the open training ses. I will be there with my fam of 5 too.

Absolutely. We can't make th Lions game, but will definitely be at the open training at the Gabba. We will also head down to Metricon later in the year.

As a side note, I came home from work sick today to find my three kids (2 daughters and a son) all playing footy out the back in their Demons guernsey's! What a great bunch of kids!!

  3. There aren't 60,000 members, but are we sure there aren't 60,000 supporters in the area?? I live in Brisbane but would be there in an instant and would be there every week with my family of five were it possible...

Besides, it's better to shoot for the stars and miss than aim for the gutter and hit.

  4. Surely in this situation it is unfair to penalize the club by taking draft picks off us as we could end up needing priority picks next year... Same goes for a financial fine. Why do that and run the risk of giving us more money later.

To me, the best logical way to punish tanking is to wait until the end of the season and give us enough premiership points to put us ninth on the ladder. That way we don't get the best of the draft, but we don't get to play in finals either...

The only down side is that we would have to call Richmond Tenthmond.

  5. Woey for me. To rub salt into my wound, my husband has a signed Collingwood jumper from Woey that I have to look at everytime I go into the garage. Its still hurts even after all this time.....

Just hang Dawes signed Demons Premiership guernsey next to it in a few years. Throw in a few ex Collingwood coaches too just for good measure.

  6. My dad, who was born in England and supports Liverpool, took me to my first AFL match in 1987 where the Demons thrashed West Coast and I was hooked. Little did I know at the time that it was West Coast's first year in the comp!

25 years on, my QLD born wife and three children all support the Demons because I do and are just as passionate. In the bath, my kids use the Demons facewasher to smother the toy Lion and shout 'Go Demons, boo lions'. My two year old son dresses himself in his guernsey more often than anything else and our supporter flag hangs on the wall next to the family portrait.

The way I look at it is that the Demons are a part of our family... You wouldn't turn you back on your kids if they had a run of bad years, so you stick with the Demons the same way.

  7. Hold your horses, apparently Moloney 'isn't gone yet'.

    Clark and Howe, good suggestions!

Isnt a free agent only taken off a clubs list if the club declines the chance to match an offer from a rival club?

Just cause Moloney has indicated he wants to leave doesn't mean someone will offer.

  8. Hopefully Brisbane will play like they've already won, whats the track conditions?

Don't know about at the Gabba itself, but it's quite a warm day here 20 minutes south... All at home are in shorts and t-shirts and my youngest only has his nappy on... I think the heat is back on for the Demons today.

  9. To be honest it was a lot lighter thanihad expected. There were probably 30 to 40 supporters there. Unfortunately most of the training happened at the other end of the field.

It looks like they were doing the normal drills and warm ups but with a focus on communcation. There was a lot of shouting and calling by the players whenever they were looking for the ball.

The defenders did a training drill where two would be in a contested mark situation and then do a switch across front of goal, up the wing, then switch back across the 50m line. It will be interesting to see if they put this into action today. Not sure who the coach with them was, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get s decent bruise from Jack Watts 'bumping' him out of the contest.

They all came over at the end and had a good chat and signed shirts, books etc and they all seemed pretty upbeat. The only concerns may be that the since the rain up here has stopped and it is actually quite warm today. Jamar said that when they flew out of Melbourne that it was cold and rainy, so the weather might impact on them today and theydid ask a few questions about it.

  10. So I came home and told my wife we are going to the Gabba tomorrow to watch the Demons train and she starts asking all the hard questions like is it free and which gate do you have to go to... My answers - which she didnt appreciate were: "Who cares" and "We'll start at gate #1 and go from there".

Can anybody help get me off the couch tonight?

  11. I am also assuming that if GWS/GCS nominate him before the draft with their #1 pick, and then we secure him with our first pick they still get to use their #1 pick at the actual draft?

I guess this was also the main question I had - if another team nominates him but we secure him, do they get to use that pick in the draft, or is it gone?

  12. Was just reading up on the father son rule:

FOR every nominated father-son player, each club in the competition has the option to bid for the player, in reverse ladder order. If a bid is made, the club that nominated the father-son player must use its next available selection if it wishes to retain its hold on that player.

If no bid is made by another club, the club that nominated the father-son eligible player will forfeit its last selection in the draft to select the player.

Does that mean that if any team lower than us doesn't nominate for Jack Viney, that we get to use our last selection in the draft on Viney? Or any club can nominate for him at any time and we are just required to use our next pick to secure him?

I am also assuming that if GWS/GCS nominate him before the draft with their #1 pick, and then we secure him with our first pick they still get to use their #1 pick at the actual draft?

Does anyone have any stats on what picks all father/sons were taken at - is it generally the first pick the club has?

  13. I understand where you are coming from but with the closest clubs to us all on 4 wins already, it will mean that if we win 7 more games we will only leapfrog the teams that can muster 3 or less wins from here as our percentage is so poor.

And the Lions in Qld and NM at Etihad will be tough.

Somehow I doubt that Mitch Clark will let the Demons get beaten by the Lions twice in one season. Now that the team is starting to pick up some form and are working hard for all four quarters I am expecting this to be a cracking game and will definitely tip the Demons for a win.
