Makes interesting reading and shows the limitations of the highlights package. He has clean hands but after someone made the Silvia comment I was interested to see what his vision and awareness were like, unfortunately there was nothing to hook onto in the package.

The question is will WC take him ahead of Sheed.

The draft is still to come 'titan', but maybe it's time for a new all encompassing draft thread.

A crumbing forward, my kingdom for a crumbing forward
rjay replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
The basis is he has said 'On the Couch' that you need more than a small crumbing forward, they need to be able to work up the ground. Geelong don't have a specialist small forward, Stevie J does most of his work as a mid now and the others you allude to like Motlop, Stokes and Christiansen all work up the ground. The Alwyn Davey type small forward is obsolete, it's why the bombers have cut him. What we need and what we will have are forwards who can work up the ground, midfielders who can kick goals. -
No, it's not party politics as such. I just don't agree with people blindly following any party line but I don't want to get into that here, it's not really the place. I do agree with 'Norms' view though. The middle is about getting elected and unfortunately not about a deeply held view. Peter Cook made a great film (satire) about this called 'The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer', check it out if you can find it. A very clever man Cook.

Watts will be playing mid but I get your point, there will be enough forward power to keep opposition defenders on their toes.
-
We really are not in a position to judge the saints at the end of the day but I have been saying for a while that Watters is Neeld Mark II.
-
Couldn't agree more 'Norm', this idea of sides in politics is beyond belief in fact it's a disgrace.
-
Agree 'macca', we should start to see a bit next year from Jimmy. I'm really excited about Tyson, I know he's really stoked to be at Melbourne under Roos and I think players like him, Vince and Michie will really help Jimmy become the player we want him to be. I also think with an injury free run we will see Trengove and Viney step up in 2014.

Nah...you reckon Carey wishes he played back and Johnno Brown wishes he played back just so they could learn to play forward. I don't think so. This kid monstered VFL defenders just like he will in AFL. He's got the mongrel of plugger and the run and competitiveness of Brown, forget defence and easing him in he's up for the fight round one. We're not talking Watts here, if anyone tries to put it on him they will come off 2nd best.

I don't think Derm was talking about wins next season, he was talking premierships and I think he is right. 17 other clubs are ahead of them in the race at the moment. We have made the right moves to start moving forward the saints are a long way behind and they've backed Pelchin in big time, if he's pulling the wrong reins then they have a lot more pain to come.

Barry will take him at Carlton, sounds like a real Prender special.

Now that's an interesting idea...maybe worth a chat at least.

Taggert, Magner, Stark delisted; Clisby promoted
rjay replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
I understand the frustration Magner has, being played as a defensive forward when the club was crying out for midfielders who could get the ball. I know a lot of posters on here were frustrated. Yes the guy had flaws in his game but he probably was treated harshly, not on his own there. The club was in pretty bad shape and hopefully that is on the improve now, unfortunately for Jimmy he's one of the casualties. He gave it his best shot but sometimes that's not enough, luck and timing always play a part. -
That and added to combine results can be very misleading. For players in the top 10 it has to be consistency over time that matters, it's why I don't see Scharenberg dropping and still think he is likely to go to GWS. Not quite 'Robbie', his carnival form pushed him up the rankings. He has made a late run.
-
I wouldn't count Lennon out, he has the attributes to make a very good mid. Some of the current top mids where not what you would call pure bred mids in junior years.
-
Not the point I was making but I think you are right with us looking for someone like Lennon.
-
I think he can play and with the injury in his first year I would like to see him get another year to prove himself.
-
Would like to see Taggert.

That's the bit that worries me about Freeman, and again on selective viewing. He doesn't seem to have an awareness of other options and they are there for the exceptional talent, and that's what we are looking for with this pick. When I see footage of Tyson I see this awareness and it's what will make him a very good get. The really good mids see the game in slow motion (Tyson does), Freeman on limited viewing doesn't seem to.
-
Still not bad, and coming back from injury also picked up 25 touches in his VFL game. I think the possession count shows that whilst he was seen as not having an outside game and lacking a tank he has worked to address this. Doesn't show much more at TAC cup level, but he does accumulate and is a footballer. We shouldn't place too much store in combine results, we've been there before. It can be very misleading.

A crumbing forward, my kingdom for a crumbing forward
rjay replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Can't play up the ground, looks like a one trick pony to me and the tricks not that good. That's why he's gone. -
I get that you are replying to a provocative post that but you are pushing things a bit here. Crouch is not the best kick but not that bad, his decision making and handball under pressure is 1st rate, his endurance base is so bad that he averaged 38 possessions (maybe not so bad), he's not very slow just not explosive like his brother, his work ethic and willingness to change his game is evidenced by how he racked up possessions when told he needed to develop an outside game which he has. He gets inside and outside ball. Crouch is a very good player, and if we wanted a clearance player who hits the contest harder than anyone in this draft he would be the one. I think the only reason we will overlook him is we are looking to add a bit more class this draft. It may well be a mistake, then again he might be on our radar. I wouldn't be disappointed to pick him up.

A one trick pony, we won't take him. Roos doesn't rate specialist small forwards so how does he fit the mould? -
I think you might have the wrong man 'Hood'. Very close though. I can't remember the Peter guys name either but I know who you mean.
