  1. If he is smart he will say absolutely nothing about the EFC situation...he and more so we don't need to be drawn into this one.
  2. Finds the ball beautifully in traffic, has great game sense and his vision & decision making look to be top shelf. Looks like we've got another one right. edit: and by the way he was up against some serious opposition in the middle, looked at home...
  3. When I looked at some of the early footage put up I thought maybe it was his physical strength that was his advantage. I wanted to see what his peripheral vision and awareness was like ... further video showed him to also be very aware of what's around him and his decision making and ability to pick out the right option by hand was more that good, close to if not elite as 'ProDee' noted.
  4. I think I will 'Mach', he seems to understate himself and then do the opposite. ...the Cook thing still haunts me though.
  5. “I’m not really expecting too much. I probably won’t be ready for AFL just quite yet, so I’d be happy with a couple of games. I’ll stick to VFL and develop my football and I hope to be at the club for a few years,” he said. I really don't like this... The last player I heard this talk from was Lucas Cook. I liked the comment from Weideman recently saying he was pushing for a game first round, he probably won't get there but why put limitations on yourself. Oliver doesn't seem to be an overly confident kid and maybe this is his way of dealing with things, set expectations low and overachieve on them. I sure hope so.
  6. I think this is really good news, we are not putting kids under pressure anymore and expecting them to come straight in as the saviours. We now have some real star power at the club, let the kids develop. By the way, from what I've seen of him at training he is a big chance to play game 1...he's just not expected to win it for us.
  7. Wines still to re-sign with Port.... 'picket' !!!!!!
  8. I would say that Brayshaw, Viney, Tyson, VDB & Salem have already surpassed those on that list with the exception of Trenners who we can hopefully add to the new list with Oliver & Petracca. We're already ahead of where we were and moving further forward...
  9. Nathan is not Robinson Crusoe there; the 2 players mentioned in recent posts, Cotchin & Selwood are putrid when tagged. I'm hoping they're much better than that or we're going nowhere.
  10. Not really 'C & B' but many of them were. Cook was taken earlier than expected as was Gysberts a couple of others could be argued about as well. ...but there is no doubt Scully & Watts were consistently talked about as no.1 picks.
  11. This is what I really like about him, he may not be ready round 1 and plenty on here think he needs time at Casey. He may well. ...but he is not putting limits on himself, he's having a crack. We had another KPF early pick a few years ago who only talked of development time at Casey and where is he now.
  12. A lot, including EFC supporters would say we paid overs for him giving up a 2nd round pick.
  13. They did say they expected at worst he would only miss a few games, they were caught out on that one. Agree though that it's not a disaster but it could have been avoided. Now we have to make the best of the situation. The 4 year contract is what Melksham wanted to get the deal over the line. Nothing to do with indications...
  14. 'stuie', as you probably know this is a typical Roos snow job. I guess we wouldn't expect him to say anything different but according to a poster (couldn't find the post) after the draft & trade night the club ran when asked about the Melksham trade he was told that the club believe & AFL advice is if found guilty the players will only get a short suspension. No matter which way you paint it the club was caught with it's pants down on this one, it was a punt taken based on a false belief. Now we can only help that Melksham repays the faith in the final 3 years of his contract but will he be mentally shot. Who knows...
  15. I think one thing is for sure and that is the players will consult with their managers and the PA at a minimum in the future and that phrases like "cutting edge" should automatically raise a red flag. I still find it hard to believe no player from the EFC raised this program with their managers or the PA though 'stuie' but if they didn't then the club did a very good sell and the peer group pressure must have been huge. There is nothing new in todays decision but at least in the future players should finally realise they are not above the laws and the AFL &/or their clubs cannot always bail them out. Personal responsibility is a phrase that resonates with me.
  16. I think the club need to make a statement on the recruiting of Melksham. The only word from the club I remember seeing was a post from one of the supporters evenings where the club were of the view that even if found guilty the players would only receive a very short suspension. The club have really been very professional in the PJ years and I'm really thankful that he's running the club and has all the right pieces in place. I do think however they dropped the ball on this one and didn't think it through being too caught up in the AFL hype.
  17. It's early days as you say 'Dee' so we will know more after the break but from what little I've seen he hasn't looked out of place. He's a competitor that's one thing for sure...
  18. Probably longer ago except for the fact that the club was ruined by incompetent management from the board down. No one is expecting Clayton Oliver or Sam Weideman to drag us out of the s...., this has already started but these kids will add to the structure that has now been started. I will be disappointed if we don't move into the 6 - 12 region of the ladder next season and I think only injury will hold us back.
  19. Nah mate, they're all going to be champions of the game. A few Charlie's and AA honours in that lot...
  20. I think they will rotate up and back, at different times both plus Petracca will be out of the square.
  21. Thought I should get back to your original point 'ILL', Weideman is a good size already and will be a real handful when he adds a bit more strength and fitness. I like the look of him.CP5...really looking forward to watching him.
  22. This his biz is slipping in all over the place now 'Clint', not really that fond of the idea.
  23. I like that he's prepared to take the tackle and clear space for a teammate then give off the ball.
  24. As 'ProDee' says they compliment each other. Viney is great at hitting up the packs and oppo players but Tyson is the extractor and smarter around the clearances, I think many underestimate his strength in a contest.
