We beat them this year and they will be one of the teams we have to beat to win a flag. Not sure we need to top up on their rejects, we've got a couple and one gun. Maybe we should look at targeting another gun in the next few seasons.

Definitely... It might also be why the Eagles would move Darling. McGovern is a natural at CHF...

VFL GRAND FINAL - CASEY SCORPIONS v FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS
rjay replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think you are reading way to much into it 'Fifty'....a lot of the Casey team consists of players who have now been overlooked for varying reasons one being that they don't fit the current MFC AFL game plan. Think Dunn, Garland for starters. We were beaten on the day by a better team, they smashed us in the ruck and gave their mids first use of the ball. If Oliver wasn't in there it would have been game over at half time. I think they would have beaten us on any ground the way they played. -

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - TIM SMITH
rjay replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
He certainly hasn't hurt his chances this finals series. Good on him for having faith in himself, he could have taken the easy way and earned a lot of cash playing in the locals. Wouldn't be unhappy to see us take him on. -
VFL GRAND FINAL - CASEY SCORPIONS v FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS

Not sky falling in from me. We some youth and but a fair bit of experience during the year that held us in good stead. Unfortunately some of them reverted to type in the GF, Grimes missed targets he needed to hit, Dunn lost the plot tried the barrel a couple of times to no effect, got caught out for agility and tried the ruff stuff again to no effect. Garland didn't impose. The inbetweeners like Michie, Turls etc didn't really impose. Spencer was probably the biggest disappointment and this is where the rot began. They had first use and their rucks were on top in the air and clearing a path on the ground. I thought Matt Jones had a really good game and struggle to see why people want him delisted. He's not best 22 but he is good depth and stood up when a lot of others were falling down in the 3rd Q. Along with Oliver who is a star. I noticed someone talking about Oliver fading in the last, but he did a power of work for the game. I think you will find the reason they wanted to qualify him for the finals is to get a head start on 2017 and building the tank. He spent a lot of time on ground and on ball in the 3 games. It was a great finals series from a 1st year player who came in underdone. I wonder if Smith (Casey variety) has done enough to a least get a rookie spot at AFL level. Could be a bit of the Dixon's about him. He's had a good series and deserves his shot with us or someone else. What the game did point out to me is that we do need an extra ruck and we need to keep drafting and trading to improve the list. Some of the players that took Casey to the top this year won't be around next year and we need to replace them with better players and more particularly players that put serious pressure on the senior team for spots. Looking to the future, Oliver looked like an AFL level player and of course is, Weed has potential and I actually liked a lot of his ground work and quick hands, Matt Jones as I said is depth and deserves his place on the list. Apart from that Smith (MFC) has a lot of potential but a lot of work ahead with his disposal. Most of our future this year was on display at AFL level so I'm not overly disappointed with the result, just a bit annoyed. -

Late night, just watched the game not knowing the result. We need a ruckman badly as a backup for big Max. Spencer got smashed and wasn't a lot better the week before. I thought he would be ok but unless he has an injury then there's no excuse for the performance. As for McInnerney, well those calling for him to be drafted are way off the mark. He's a good local level ruckman. The rest of the game, well Oliver is a star, M Jones did ok, Smith (MFC) has a lot to learn and a lot to work with, Smith (Casey) can hold his head high, Weed is a smart player....not much more to talk about. Probably would have been better having an early night... -
We need another ruck desperately...an added bonus if he's a goal kicker.

Pretty sure he did another bit of a hammy towards the end of the year 'Jack'... -
...and people still listen to what he says. Last years beauty was St Kilda wouldn't win a game for the year. ...and now people worry when he says the Saints are ahead of us at the moment.

It's very different 'daisy', having one game in a month is a big disadvantage. We will see this afternoon with GWS but it's going to be hard for them to switch on at the start. The advantage they have is that they've seen what happened to the Cats but their momentum has stopped, not easy to turn it back on.

Can't find my post from a few weeks back but had a similar thing happen in local footy when I was playing... We finished easily on top, best team but because of a bye at the end of the season we missed a few weeks and couldn't get momentum. Out in straight sets... Geelong looked well off the pace early, they were spectating. It's going to be very interesting to see how GWS come up tomorrow. Maybe Dill won't be looking like the cat that got the cream next week, he was very smug after finals week one.
-
I think that's a good point 'Saber'. They probably wanted to get some sense of continuity but would be better if they rotated all the coaches & a mix of players through, it does get a bit the same. I don't mind "Molly" with Gerard, makes for an interesting dynamic.

Fyfe is from WA. ...and the only momentum seems to be on this forum. Hi Caro, if your reading. Hope you don't mind the bagging you copped over the tanking saga.

Max always looked good, just didn't get the opportunity early on...injury was a problem and also the FD we had at the time tried to make him into a forward and were playing Spencer ahead of him in the ruck. I remember seeing him in a Casey game when Scully was playing. Tommy Mac and Howe were playing & yet to debut in the AFL. Max had the ruck role and won the day against Ben Hudson. The point is Max was streets ahead of where Mcinnerney is now.

Interesting.... Wouldn't be a bit of the 2nd language would it??? -
Not particularly talking about what he said the other night but more his actions over time. ...and yes there is no interest like self interest particularly where managers are concerned. The good ones tend to look at the longer term, building relationships etc. the rogues are in it for the quick kill, the thrill of the deal.
-
Malthouse has been quoted about managers a few times recently. Says there are some good ones but some rogues who he has no time for. Connors to me seems one of the good ones, he has the players interest at heart but seems to understand how important the synergy with the club is.
-
Tomlinson is an interesting one and may point to why we don't seem to get some of these so called young guns. Last year he was approached by Carlton and St Kilda, we were not interested and didn't make an approach for whatever reason. My understanding is that's still the case unless we've changed our mind sometime over the last month. The source is solid on this...

Someone seems to have hijacked the thread with a bunch of stuff about destination clubs....can't be bothered going through it all. All I know is that you seemed to rate Carlton as a destination club but haven't backed it up with any player of substance. Judd is the last one I remember.
-
Changing your story 'stuie'...

How many have gone to Carlton????the club you seem to see as a destination club.
