Backtracking a little 'titan'??? It's ranking the forward lines going in to 2017. I would think ours is better placed and that will be proven by the end of 2017.
-
Ok...seeing this is about 2017, lets revisit at the end of the season and see where the respective forward lines sit and who is right. I think we will be well ahead of the Saints, you guys don't. We will see...

Reiwoldt was on the wing in the quoted article. Without him they have a pretty ordinary forward line I would think. 2 'B' grade forwards in Membrey and Bruce, some promise with McCartin if he can get on the ground. Billings yet to deliver on his promise and disappointing to date. Weller another C/B grader. Hardly fantastic.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-01-02/who-has-the-best-forwards-we-rank-every-club Now this one is a bit of a dogs breakfast.... Freo, Geelong & St Kilda above us for a start. I don't think so... ...not convinced with Sydney, Port or the Dogs forward lines either.

I can't think of any other characters in the AFL apart from Bernie and Max...I think Trac is also on the way. We are well covered in this area...

I'm pretty sure we have control over the football operations now 'picket'. We're not compromising our players at all now, they had priority in the 2016 final series with some Casey regulars missing out. Now we are in a similar position to the Hawks with Box Hill and it doesn't seem to have done them any harm not having a so called stand alone team. These are not the days of Fev...we've got this.
-
Doesn't fit 'Moon'...he's back up. The other forward positions will be between Garlett, Kent, Trac, Vanders, Smith & the resting mids to name a few.

Then I would think Cripps maybe headed back home...can't see them paying big $$$'s for Fyfe and holding him (Cripps) without a real shot at a premiership on offer. ...and lets face it they don't have a real shot in the foreseeable future.

HS Bicks weighs your AFL team’s chances with his 2017 preview

Like a lot of these things, a broad brush approach to the critique. ...but I think his overall summation of the 18 clubs is pretty good. I would probably swap us with the Saints bringing us into the 8 but that's of course taking into account my personal bias. I'm not as concerned as many about losing games we shouldn't, due to the inexperience of the team in 2016. If it happens in 2017 then I would be... -
Let's not go back there boys...new club now. You know my view of the past 'SWYL' but it serves no purpose to revisit now. The lessons have been well learned & unless they are unlearned lets move on.

I think the point really is the opportunity cost. Do you spend on a big star/saviour or do you spend on building a team. Our previous experience with the saviour approach has turned up nothing but a Brownlow. So far the star/saviour approach hasn't worked for Carlton (Judd), Sydney (Buddy) or Geelong (Danger) and I can't see it changing. Build a team...we've got the makings now and don't need to tip the balance.
-
I would be happy to take Fyfe at the right price...the dream would be that he wants to come and be part of history, a premiership player and not just a money grabber. Unfortunately someone will pay him overs (he will take it), let them, we have a team to build.

Oscar Clavarino and Luke Davies-Uniacke

I think it would be better if the AFL controlled the academies in the long run 'Return'. I understand the reasoning behind them but particularly in GWS's case they have become a rort... -

We would be the loser with the Stingrays 'Jack'... -

Watching the Friday training session and wondering who number 8 was. I was concerned about his attack on the ball, seemed a bit timid in contested situations. Wasn't hitting the ball up hard. Then I realised he was an academy kid and not one of ours. He's a kid in a foreign environment and has time on his side. Will be interested to watch his development this year & beyond. -

I don't think so 'Jack'. Maybe Sandringham or Oakleigh would be better bets but in all honesty I would hate to see a return to zones. It's a real retrograde step. -
...the only problem is it doesn't work. Sorry it's a very poor idea and not well thought through. Max is the number one ruck in the competition. Why would we consider putting a 2nd stringer at best in his place and then playing Max in a position he can't play!!!

...but they will use him there all the same. The comment about Watts in the ruck came from Mahoney when we said we were in the hunt for a forward/ruck. We didn't find one so Watts will be it. Frost can't do it, and as 'ProDee' said Spencer is a back up and will only get a run if Max is injured.

We got screwed the last time there was a major change to the ruck rules, now it's some other clubs turn.
