  1. Overuse is a big problem if you can't use the ball well. It's a bit of a South Australian trait, it's the way they've always played footy, chip the ball around and find space. During the Craig years ...the Crows used this style & had it down well enough to win games during the season and came unstuck when under serious pressure and/or in poor weather. Mainly in the finals. I'm interested to watch how this unfolds with Goodwin but I think until we get some more class in the team we will be very susceptible to pressure from the opposition and on bad weather days.
  2. We don't have any real height in defence...everyone panics when an opposition tall gets near the ball. The coaching group need to sort this out.
  3. Easy, Kent is a lazy footballer. If he ever pulls the finger he will be a regular, until then he doesn't deserve a game. As for JKH, Stretch is a far better bet for mine.
  4. Only got the chance to watch bits of the game today so sitting down watching it now. Observations from the 1st Q Not sticking tackles Not hitting up ground balls/disputed balls hard enough, being too cute... Poor kicking still a major problem. All in all playing with no real sense of urgency...
  5. Our first rounder would be a good price...a pick 2, still young with some exposed form for say our first pick at 10 - ???? would be a steal.
  6. Not sure who you are arguing with 'Martin' but I'm not disagreeing with you that St Kilda got lucky tonight. However GWS were only one rotation down as I pointed out, it was not the same situation as ours against the Tiges...Hopper played on with a dislocated finger which is not unusual in football. He just didn't do it well... As you say "facts are facts"
  7. Not sure if you are answering my post here but as you quoted it I can only guess you are. What's perspective got to do with pointing out GWS may have put a kid back on with concussion...it will be interesting to see the doctors report to the MRP on the Stevens tackle. I'm not to sure they are interested in the duty of care they have to their players. I could care less about the Saints win or perspective...
  8. For all the talk of them being 2 down...it was only one down. GWS put the kid back on that was concussed and he didn't look right. I hope they get hammered for this but doubt the AFL will do anything about it.
  9. I reckon they did, particularly Billy Longer....lets see if they can keep it up though.
  10. Hibberd was a good get this year...identified a need. Elite kick but also hard at it and strong over head. Forget the big fish, pick off what we don't have. What we need.
  11. Game over... Unless Jack Steven and a couple of mates pull the finger in the midfield it's going to be a blowout.
  12. I often think Champion data should stick to what they are good at. Counting kicks, handballs and tackles etc at games....their analysis is often wide of the mark and they really are not qualified to give it. A couple of examples come to mind but according to their analysis the Dogs had no chance of winning the premiership last year and we have the worst midfield in the AFL. Stats have their place of course and are a good tool to have but many have been fooled into placing too much emphasis on them. My eyes tell me that Petracca is heading in the right direction to becoming a very good player at a minimum and with all things going well could be an A grader, even a champion. Still a bit of water to go under that bridge but I'm happy to have him.
  13. We are in the box seat here and the win or loss is in our hands. I could care less what they do, the reality is whilst they still have some champions in their team the game has past some of them by. When it's over it's over. It's there for us to win or lose. If we've grown as a team we will win comfortably.
  14. Not trying to be a smart a.... ...but is there a rule that they can't omit someone from the 18? If not it wouldn't surprise me to see a change or changes this week.
  15. ...and a part timer who came in to look over our footy department and select a new coach got it totally wrong. No matter his credentials and media expert status, I certainly wouldn't want these types on a selection committee. You hire the professionals for a reason, if they are not doing the job as has been the case with some of our poor choices, you move them on. You can't just pick and chose the odd selections/trades over the history of the game, and make assumptions. Was it Lyon who recruited Lovett or was it the list manager? Luke Ball was not in favour with Lyon...do you let him or the coach go? Maybe Ron was right, North might have won by an even bigger margin and because of his stand gone on to win the next 4...but that we will never know. We're in a different time, it's a professional game now. You just hope the good calls outweigh the mistakes because you are not going to get everything right. 2nd guessing and going for the perfect game just leads to inertia.
  16. As I've said previously the day of the Chairman of selectors and selection committee went out with a couple of beers and a few sausages after training. By it's nature an independent selection committee would be formed by a bunch of part timers....they wouldn't have a handle on all that needs to be considered in selection. Leave selection to the coaches. Employ the right people and although we may nit pick about some of the selections and trades, overall the results will follow.
  17. Yep, it's very dangerous and often hard to sift through...
  18. I agree with what you say to a degree 'Webber' ...but unfortunately there is now so much information out there and so many differing opinions from educated, experienced, qualified authorities. Now there may be a lot of reasons for this including but not limited to the $'s, prestige, spin etc. etc involved. Another is the changing science on a subject, which of course will happen as new information comes to hand.
  19. Not at 29 going on 30 next year... With Lewis as the precedent then maybe a pick in the 80's should do it.
  20. So do we...and it's very much our deficiency.
  21. Very good player when up & about... Could play forward or back and give a chop out in the ruck.
  22. Kent has had 2 games back at Casey, been average in both yet people are calling for him to be back in the team. Looking at today's game I would think his competition is Hannan, JKH & ANB... Then you can add Stretch, Harmes & Wagner (would release someone forward) If Hogan comes back, I would think JKH or ANB miss. JKH for me. Hannan has more tricks than Kent, is as quick and a much better mark. ANB has been pretty consistent so Kent will need to pull his finger to get back in.
  23. ...but they made some costly mistakes with Tippett and Buddy. It cost them Mitchell this year and maybe a few more to come. The type of investment they made demands a flag and I think last year was their best chance. Yes they will compete and get better throughout the year but they will need to rebuild. Tippett is sure to be on the market at the end of this season and they're stuck with the Bud deal...
  24. Crameri is a bust, to hot and cold... ...and we have Petracca as that mid size forward. We really need a 200cm forward who can go into the ruck... ...as I've said in the list management thread, we don't have enough height around the ground.
  25. Umpires absolutely destroyed this game....
