  1. Played out of position in the forward line but did what was best for the team. Had he remained at CHB I think he would have been more highly regarded in the football world. Would be a more than handy player in the current team. Congrats to him, a well deserved honour.
  2. The ultimate KPI...
  3. Must be NRL Origin time again...the time when the AFL get envious of the Sydney centric sport. Origin is not for us. Interstate footy has always been some kind of exhibition game and whilst we can talk the glory of times past the truth was a little more sobering. It was hard to get the stars to commit, many a mysterious 1 week injury would occur around origin time. Our game is built on winning the premiership as the ultimate glory and I can't see it changing. So lets have a bit of fun with selecting teams that will never play, creating some interesting and not so interesting discussion. ...but I fear the AFL has a deeper agenda they're pushing through their media mouthpiece. They can't bare to think of another competition having one over them...leave it alone Dill.
  4. That was the conventional wisdom sprouted at the time...I think it was all a bit more complex than that but the powers behind the scenes certainly had the media pushing the line.
  5. My opinion is that we need another good ball user in the back half. Hibberd is the only elite user in that line up, Jetta not to bad, Frost & Tommy Mac poor the others a bit hit and miss. I'm also not convinced with the idea of Frost & Tommy holding up the key posts...
  6. Trouble is opposition coaches don't rely on the media for their intel... With a $9.5 mill Football Department spend, opposition scouting and video analysis... They're well aware of what Oliver can do & have been since day one. No one slips under the radar.
  7. Apart from the fact the David King is a goose of the highest order, I think people forget Oliver is a 2nd year player with only a handful of games under his belt. His performances are measured against the best talent in the comp not the best young talent and he's standing up pretty well.
  8. Also on his opposite hand...for someone seen to be one sided with his handball he's a quick learner. Just another string to the bow.
  9. Unless your name is Selwood...
  10. I'm biased, one of my favourite players to watch in the AFL... Would be a great get...being under-utilised as a mid because they lack goal kickers. X-factor plus, right up with the best in my opinion.
  11. Yep, and whilst I enjoy the insights both you and 'joeboy' post, when it comes to Tyson I take the views with a grain of salt...
  12. Thought he was very good last year but having the 2nd year blues...had a bad one last night, fumbled and seemed to lack confidence. The one thing that surprises me is they don't give him a run through the midfield. Longmire is not a very adventurous coach and seems to keep the status quo.
  13. 'titan', I think it's more about colour pieces these days. They've got retired champions to give special comments & all they do is fill colour and give absolutely no insight into the game. The drivel they carry on with you & I could do from watching the tele... It dumb's down the game... It's about ratings I know but for me I would rather see the end of the old champions like Mathews, Carey, Watson, Lyon as they have been out of the game to long and bring nothing to the table. Even Richardson & Ling have been left behind. Bring in fresh talent for expert commentary every couple of years and keep up to date... As for the likes of Taylor, Russell & their ilk, surely we can do better...
  14. McKay hasn't played an AFL game yet so he doesn't look anything...
  15. Gresham wasn't in the same draft 'AF' so maybe he was talking Billings...
  16. That's what they used to call Tapscott and it didn't do him much good. Seems to be a similarly limited footballer.
  17. Well, his brother got away with one earlier. Looks like the umps are starting to go soft on that one, same with the free kick to Robbie Gray for in the back when he dived in front of Guthrie and took his legs out. The AFL - Rules on the run...
  18. Joe Danniher.... No chance to get him out of EFC but how much would he be worth on the open market if Schache is going to get anywhere near what's rumoured.
  19. Another example of useless statistics making up a story.
  20. Gibbs wasn't out of contract. ...but surely Dill & his delusional crew wouldn't be delusional enough to go with any of these options, particularly the last 2.
  21. I don't know what the hype is all about. Let someone else take this risk...
  22. His career has been disappointing to date. Will need to show something before season end but my vote would be on trading him if we can get some value.
  23. ...be interested to hear the explanation from the umpiring department for the deliberate against Hibberd. Something to do with the angle the ball came off the opponent who wasn't ready for it whilst moving in a northerly direction, parallel to the Punt road end whilst in an upright position on the boundary side towards the members wing but closer to his own forward half on the left half forward line right if looking towards the city of Melbourne.
  24. Yep, I remember that.... It's like the umpire thinks, if I let it go no one will notice my bad bounce and I won't get into trouble. The game is becoming a laughing stock 'Gonzo'... All this stuff about gut punches and jumper punches is another case in point. ...back in the old days you were reported for striking and got weeks. There was none of this degree of force, intentention, accident or whatever, you strike take a few weeks off. From memory, back when I was a kid a 4 week holiday was not unusual for striking.
  25. I like what he brings but he needs to eradicate those costly little fumbles/mistakes. He gets his hands on marks he should take and fumbles ground balls he should eat up. If he can tidy this up then we have a good player on our hands.
