I think Willie Rioli's case took 18 months to get to a resolution. Then his 2 year penalty was backdated to reflect his time in limbo.

Looks like we might be a player down for a while yet.

The rugby codes will end up as pro touch football I reckon, I just can't see them lasting too much longer.

A good question re soccer...my soccer mad mate tells me the header has been on dangerous ground for a while now. The ball is a lot lighter and waterproof now so there is not the damage that was done to many past players...however he says they still get tiny concussions each time they head the ball...so maybe that part of the game will have to go.

Remember these games have been around for only a very short time in the scheme of things, a couple of hundred years give or take.

NRL along with AFL will end up non contact, it's just a matter of time.

It really doesn't matter, we've had a good run with it, enjoyed the game & may or may not be around for the final demise.

Yes it would be ridiculous enforcing it (in particular with 4 umpires and different interpretations) but what's new with the AFL?

Perhaps consideration should be given to how 'hard' players attack the ball? It's been a foundation of our game but they seem to want to eliminate contact.

We were always taught to 'go in hard you won't get hurt' but maybe that has to change.

Its already become like basketball which I hate .....

I think there is going to be no choice and contact sports worldwide are in trouble here.

It will end up a no contact sport.

I can't see any other option.

I'm not quite sure how they would enforce it. A free I guess.

It would a bit tricky, for example differentiating between running back with the flight to spoil or mark and coming in from an angle.

But the game is full of tricky decisions. 

 

Maybe make an adjustment to the front on contact rule that already exists...

It used to be a mark of courage but honestly it's just plain stupid.

I can remember doing it twice when I was playing.

One I got away with, a spectator who used to be a VFL captain was on the boundary side it happened and said basically what were you thinking.

The 2nd time I wasn't as lucky and got a chest full of busted ribs.

Yes, what Greene did was illegal in football terms but if he had of followed through with the marking attempt we might had had a terrible situation.

Players need to be protected from themselves.

Absolutely it's true...In a marking contest like that he's in his rights to raise his knee.

That wouldn't be good.

So what Greene should have done is go for the mark...

In effect he would have nearly killed his opponent if he had of gone for the mark.

I think it's becoming incumbent on players not to run back into a marking contest front on, it's sheer stupidity.

This is where it's different to the Wright incident, in that case the player was coming back to the ball.

I read lips and body language pretty well and very closely watched their defenders appearing to heavily try to get inside his head when off the ball.   (Not just that mock crying taunt.)

I hope he gets a little help/advice so that becomes water off a ducks back to him.

They were certainly getting into him 'Rob'.

Aligned with his lack of preseason & not getting a clear run with injury, his confidence is well down.

His kicking is a symptom of that.

Personally I think it's best for the coach to just go through the best 5 performances because trying to say nice things about guys who had stinkers isn't worth the effort, young guys don't need that publicly. But I'll take the full thing over nothing at all.

Love including a couple of the VFL guys. Paddy Cross was excellent. Worth watching if he can keep up that kind of form.

I used to enjoy Mark Williams short lived player reviews.

A bit too honest for some and disappeared never to be seen again.

We've tried with him and Bradke before and so far haven't had a win.

Personally I would have put more eggs into the Irish experiment where we were once leaders and came up with some real gems.

He's a beautiful set shot but is lacking confidence this season, you can see it in his approach.

We nearly pulled the trigger on that move in finals last year when the cupboard was bare.

Now is the time to build our options.

Last year he (Vearrall) missed all of preseason and most of the first half so was coming off zero base.

It was always this year that he would start to show and he is.

Lets hope he keeps up the improvement.
