WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
olisik replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Question - Is Viney invited to the draft combine? I cant recall seeing his name on the list If he isnt then no way he would/should go at 2. He has had a quiet year compared to the other potential top 5s. -
Martin and Davis

Why would they Bluff? Their is no advantage for them whatsoever to be bluffing about this. In fact its just going to make us not bother discussing Caddy trades with them, so they are just burning out a potential trade partner. -

Look at the overall picture. 1. We get compo picks 2. Rule diminishes original early pick 3. Compo picks need to cover for the loss of original early pick therefore diminishing its value as it is no longer an extra. It is just basically replacing a pick that we have lost due to the F/S rule. Its not that hard to understand. This is all in response to someone earlier saying we were over compensated. In my eyes I don't think we were. I think we were under compensated due to it being diminished. -

GC would need to throw in some sweeteners. Id be happy with Caddy and their 2nd rounder for pick #4 Honestly I am against using 'Do not bid for Viney' clause. -
RR has disappeared

The F/S rule changes have basically diminished our Scully compo drastically imo. -

Settle down, I wasn't giving an opinion whether we should take him at #3 or not. I was just doing a bit of Mathes to highlight how crap our Scully compo could end up being. We should just thank god that BP is no longer around as he would definitely pass on Viney for a skinny classy mid instead. -
Can this thread be locked? There are already about a million threads about this

We got pick #4 and #13. Then we get forced to use pick #3 on Viney (When he is not worth a top #3 pick by most accounts) Therefore our pick #4 will be used on the #3 best kid. Resulting in only compensation pick #13 being left for Scully. Therefore A. No Scully ordeal and no F/S rule changes = Pick #3 + Scully + Viney B. Scully ordeal and F/S rule changes = Pick #3 + Pick 13 + Viney + 3rd Round pick A. Definitely looks better to me hence we got screwed again if Viney dosn't go as a 2nd rounder. -

Its called factoring in everything. Some people don't seem to be able to do that here or want to turn a blind eye to things that factor the final outcome. I sure hope our recruiters don't try to dismiss anything like that and review every combination and calculation possible to get the best outcome. -

No it doesn't we were gonna get JV with our later pick regardless before the rule changed. We got pick #13 and a 3rd round pick for Scully. -

Remember if we pass on JV then we will ideally have picks #2, #3, #11 and #23ish (Daniher and Viney bump these down by 1 each) Wines might be available at 11 Toumpas #3, Hogan#4, Wines #11 and a Mid at 23 could also be a good possible outcome. Oh and to slap GC in the face. -

Yes it would have been. Our pick #4 will be pick #3 anyway if we take Viney with our pick #3 rather then the pick in the 20s. So its the same thing. Pick #4 will be used to take the 3rd best kid. So still in theory the F/s rule has cancelled out our first round compensation pick. Meaning pick #13 was what we got for Scully. (Assuming GC/GWS bid) -

I think that if GC bid for him that they will do so as they rate him. If they rate him then I think he would be wroth pick #3. GC dont come across as the type of team to play games. Their only real benefit of bidding falsely would be to stop GWS from getting pick #3 in minidraft rather then pick #6 -

I think Dane Swan/Hawkins/Ablett/Hird/Scarlett/Fyfe/Darling/Sandilands have all been considered 'Steal of the century' at some point. Even Li Jong might end up being a better steal, 24 possessions against Geelong as a late rookie pickup by the Bulldogs. Tbo if i was working for GWS/GC recruiting I wouldn't care less what/who other teams can pickup cheap. -

Yes but pick #4 we would have had anyway if the compensation and f/s rule changes had not been introduced -

Not really, they are both associated with the draft and our picks. Theoretically the new F/S rules cancels out our first compensation pick. Scully came 4th in GWS best and fairest. I am pretty sure he will be worth more then who we pick up at pick #13 this year for a majority of his career. (Yes I am not a fan of him but lets be serious here, he isn't half bad) -

You got it wrong here. Our compensation is pick #4 and pick#13 If other rules cause us to have to us our first rounder pick #3 then we are down 1 pick. So theoretically our compensation for scully will just be pick #13. Lose pick #1, get pick #13. Not fair imho -

GWS wont want GC to bid as then we wont bid on mini draft and bulldogs will hold GWS to random on mini draft. Best pick they could get is #6 if a Viney bid is made. GC should also be hesitant to bid due to Tippet for #2 scenario or Caddy for #13 scenario. -
Name 5 players ahead of them who would be more preferable to be delisted then these 2 I can name 3 Bate, Petterd and Bennell
