  1. When Oliver, Trac and Viney are all having dominant games it's hard for our next midfielder to rack up a lot of disposals. They can't all get it at once!!! Sparrow stays in.

This fascination of change for changes sake (or to appease our curiosity - "the grass is always greener on the otherside of the fence" approach), is not conducive to strong team culture. A strong team culture builds belief and confidence - which is crucial for players to be in form.

  2. Actually our midfield is probably where we are lacking a little.  Trac, Viney and Oliver are obvious; then who?  Sparrow is the only remaining true midfielder, Salom is a project, as to is Rivers, ANB, Picket - would any of them be recruited to a side challenging for the finals as a midfielder (primary role). I actually expect 1 will make it, hope for 2; but realistically most will be just topping up midfield rotation minutes. Note this is not criticism, they are very good at their other roles (possibly just as hard to replace as finding our 2nd midfield).

  3. Brown v Schache even if this was only break even on output he's at least a bigger presence and will require a big body match up.

Tmac v Tommo again likely at worse a break even but Tmac can also swing forward if needed and relieve in the ruck (from the bench - note Hore has also been named as a tall defender).

We have not lost on Laurie and Spargo (though probably better than Chandler).

Bowey is the loss, but there's depth in the backs to cover it.

  4. Reality

    Rivers May Lever

    Bowey Tmac Salem

    Langdon Oliver Hunter

    ANB Petty Trac

    Picket Roo Fritsch

    Gawn Viney Brayshaw

    McVee Pup Billings Sparrow

How many of these played the 4 quarters.

Note: Gawn half a game, Trac and Viney limited time in middle.

  5. Also for every northern academy player picked up by those clubs, then this means theres one more Vic/Sa/Wa player available for the rest.

Having/had kids in GWS academy I can verify that they do a lot of work, and are constantly behind the 8 ball; as they can't find any decent (high standard) games for these kids to play. They get 4 games in the Coates league at the start of the year, then beat up on weaker players till the championships! That's not great for development.

  6. Mentioned this before:

but what about all academy first round products require the associated club to match points  plus 40%. Then Academy 2nd round plus 20%.

It still provides opportunity to reward clubs academy efforts, but not provide a free hit. Other clubs potentially benefit from the deals required to accumulate the necessary points!

And of course, AFL gets more media coverage from the speculation.

No. Melb has only traded players who they don't mind moving on. They have not lost anyone significant who they preferred to keep. Maybe Jackson. I believe the medium/long term strategy here is for the club to free up cap space in order to target the likes of Sean Darcy, Todd Marshall, JUH and maybe Ben King in 2024.

I was more meaning targeting players like Petty, Kossie, Jackson, JVR, Rivers, Chandler, Brayshaw, etc. This puts unnecessary pressure/distraction on the player during the season and club (to lock them into long term deals, as 2 years remaining seems gettable).

Would you put in the effort to sound out a content contracted Essendon player knowing you have to deal with Dodori?

Don't like to get too wrapped up in points value, however we have given up 1000 points to rise from 14 to 11 while crows only gave up 400 odd points to go from 23 to 14. And they got a player.

Whats the chances this creates a favourable McAddam deal in the future, considering how well they've benefited from this one.

Crikey, if Northern clubs get a free hit at Academy picks below 40 they should be paying a 20% points premium for getting the player they want (at least for the top 10). 20% discount on top of getting a potential gun player. - stupid.

Love this idea; but would take it a step further: NGA first round products require the associated club to match points  plus 40%. NGA 2nd round plus 20%.

It still provides opportunity to reward clubs NGA efforts, but not provide a free hit. Other clubs potentially benefit from the deals required to accumulate the necessary points!

This is the lamest piece of rubbish ever. Brayshaw's right foot touches the ground after he has kicked the ball with it, and his left foot is still up in the air when Maynard hits him. How can it be said that Brayshaw deviated to the right? Or moved any distance at all in any direction after the kick? And why is the Collingwood lawyer allowed to introduce statements like this without any relevant expertise or any justification for this "evidence"? This [censored] would get chucked out of a kangaroo court ...

The kangaroo court would also have chucked out the hypocrisy of Maynard having the time to react to Brayshaw "veering" into his path by noticing it, comprehending the outcome enough to react with the thought procedd of thinking "[censored] he's there"; while also arguing there's not reaction time to brace for contact!!!!

The act of jumping and bracing was a predetermined singular action; this is actually supported by the biomechanic person - as he stated there was no time to adjust once launched.

Also if there was a report why wasn't the umpire there providing his view (something I thought they had to do) and if this was a test case then surely the AFL (tribunsl) would require evidence from Brayshaw so as to understand all aspects in making an informed decision.
