2014 off-season will be huge (list management)
Yossarian replied to Number 2's topic in Melbourne Demons
Posts like these remind me why I like reading what you have to say. You're sensible, but really you're way too optimistic about our current situation. Don't think anyone would pick up Dunn, Sellar or Spencer even if we dropped them. -
I think the tone was set from the outset of the second quarter when players had the opportunity to play on but went back behind the mark and were then forced to do exactly what Lingy was saying they had to avoid... simply bombing it long down the line to a contest. We'd gone into our shell and everything else was the same predictable crap. At least it shows that some of it comes down to belief, whether that'll come or not by trying to turn one quarter into two quarters etc... who knows. Baby steps seems to be the general approach by all concerned right now. Baby steps and rash decisions.

Valiant effort rpfc. Conversations like this remind me why I keep WYL blocked. Makes so little sense, it's almost scary.

Happy to see Toumpas in the team over Bail.

The thing I love about Peter Jackson is that I love hearing him speak. There's no pre-thought up lines or well-worn cliches, no smug smile and no condescending tone. He's honest, knowledgeable and gives full, respectful answers with a tone of respect. Like he's not hiding from the truth, and doesn't feel he needs to do so to protect his position. I always felt with Schwab that he was trying to give me a condescending reach-around. I couldn't stand to hear him speak, and if people don't want to listen to the CEO then you're in trouble. As for Peter Jackson, sign me up for his newsletter and send me his audiobooks for Christmas, loving his presence at the club so far.

No, but there's nothing new in there, unless you're fishing for people thinking it's written by our own Jesse Hogan.

Going by facebook comments, it's only the overemotional idiots who want him sacked right now ("before he destroys our once great club!!1!" etc). I'm in the basket of "whatevs man, only way is up probably." As I have no idea how to run a footy club. Hopefully Peter Jackson does.

No, too inexperienced, as is apparently one of the issues with many levels of our club.
-
Looking forward to seeing how he goes. http://www.3news.co.nz/Young-Kiwi-chases-AFL-dream/tabid/317/articleID/294498/Default.aspx

Slightly off topic... how rough a head does Matt Thompson have? Have to look away from the screen and settle for the audio every time he comes up.

Complete and utter garbage.

Nathan Jones elevated to Captain, Garland to VC

Happy with this news. Think they both deserve the extra responsibility and will handle it well. Hello ignore button. -
I reckon go after Lenny Hayes, telling him he can move straight into a coaching role with the club after he retires.
-
I'm ok with it. Would need to be handled well though.

If we fielded our own VFL side, what would happen with Port's club song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsTweuKl2zM

This is disappearing way too quickly. They have the choice which questions to answer on this thing and could easily have kept the questions team selection related, so he's chosen to support Neeld. Some pretty solid compliments they are too. "Hi John, he's one of the best coaches I've worked with. He's very, very passionate and very driven and a huge support to his players. That's an absolute fundamental to coaching in my humble opinion. Jade."

THE WILSON FILE - the arrogance at the heart of the innuendo

No more likely to leave than Evans is for us, coming through from rookies tends to do that to a player. I like the guy but he's never leaving the Dogs.

Ross Lyon on the win today: "I wasn't in control from the first bounce to the last bounce to be honest, I think, we just try and organise them and they... we put a lot of work with our players for them to lead and get it done. If you think you can fix it game day... we gotta help, but at the end of the day the players do it, y'know." Which strikes a chord with what Dawes said in his article: "I think the thing we've taken a few weeks to grasp has been that just because we have done the work over summer, it doesn't mean results will happen for us. Rather, we are now capable of competing with sides because we have done the work. It's OK though, we needed to learn that lesson and we will get better." Neeld, Craig and Misson have put the work in to get the players up to a standard to compete with the better sides, but now it's up to the players to take what they've developed in training and turn it into a competitive four quarter effort on game day. If Neeld fails in his tenure, then at least the fitness and training standards of the playing group will have improved to the point of being comparable with the best teams in the league... The perfect position for whoever your chosen messiah is to step into.

Interesting stat: Only two Lions players – Jonathan Brown (6) and Josh Green (5) – have kicked five goals or more so far this season, while Melbourne has four – Mitch Clark (7), Jeremy Howe (7), Aaron Davey (5) and Shannon Byrnes (5).

Love it. There should be a button underneath poster names to play their theme song as you're reading their posts.

Happy seeing Toumpas up there too. Should be too classy for this level, but needs to get some confidence back into his game. Mystery injury to Clisby?

For anyone not a fan of the ridiculous AFL site. Clip's at 5:50.
