  1. I think that having a CEO who has the blessing (and direction) of the AFL will deliver this so-desired independence and better governance.

A Kennett-like figure may be enticing for similar reasons, but we need a Board full of loyal Demons because they need to work for nothing, they need to keep their mouth shut when approriate, and they need to keep in-confidence - all the dirty secrets of the club.

    Have a Demon as President.

What a load of absolute rubbish - embarassing actually. Why do we need a Demon as President?????? What about the best candidate for the job??? This boys club type attitude is what got us in this mess in the first place. Some of you people are just afraid of real change.. Face Palm!!!!

  2. You have to remember, that a lot of Demonland posters are Brighton toffs who live and breathe politics and barrack for their political party much like a sports fan barracks for their team.

They are in here spouting their political beliefs thinking people give a [censored], and they only oppose Jeff Kennett because they didnt like him when he was premier 20 years ago or whenever it was.

Unfortunately a big reason the MFC are so far behind the times is we have so many fans like this.

    Its embarrassing.

Agree 100% - some of you people need to remove your heads from out of your rear, get past the politics and understand the club is in all sorts and we need professionals at the club with a proven track record of success - Kennett offer this.

  3. Just when I didnt think things could get any worse.

Change for the sake of change and with only limited thought of the consequences

Bimbo - change for the sake of change? Can you point us to the sandpit that you've had your head buried in over the last 50 years or so???? Change for the sake of change - most mindless post I've read anywhere for sometime. If ever a club was in dire need of change its the MFC. Oh Dear Bimbo, Oh Dear..........

  4. That's very funny, one poster slams Don for not responding and another slams him for responding. Love Demonland.

It's called people having a difference of opinions - we're not robots and we don't all think the same. Were you expecting all of us to be in agreeance on the topic? Pft......

  5. Don McLardy isn't fit to carry Jeff Kennett's dirty jocks. As per usual with Don he's very quick to get on the defensive - already released a statement about Jeff's comments. Would have thought he'd be a bit busy to respond and so quickly at that...... Oh Don walk away for the love of God!!!

  6. We currently have 10 board members - no wonder the morons can't make a decent decision and are always "split",there's far too many of them!!! If elected Jeff would only have 5 board members - he's already speaking more sense in 5 minutes than the current board has demonstrated in 2-3 years!!!

  7. The ultimate 'white flag', well apart from handing in the keys. It's the job of the CEO, FD boss and coach along with a president who has an absolute passion for the club to drive this thing. Surely there is a Melbourne person out there who has some smarts and a passion to see this club succeed.

Paid positions are different...most Geelong people didn't have a problem with Bomber or Scott as coaches, nor a problem with an Hawthorn supporter ex Melbourne player, WC boss as CEO but it was driven by Frank Coster's passion for Geelong and his football club.

I know we've copped some big beatings over the last few years but too many of you are punch drunk, you've lost your marbles if you want Jeff as president.

Continually going back to "Melbourne" people is what got us into this mess in the first place. My God!!!! The less "Melbourne People" the better as far as I'm concearned!!!

  8. So the only alternative to McLardy is Kennett?

I can't believe people are supporting this. Jesus Christ. We really are over a barrel.

What's your grand plan P-Man - sit on our hands and keep copping thumpings with a board that continually makes poor deciosns? I mean they can't even make a decision on Neeld for God's sake. Either sack him (my prefferred option) or back him in. Kennett won't fluff around. He knows what it takes to build a successful club - has the runs on the board. We should count ourselves lucky that he's even prepared to put his hand up for the job!!!

  9. lol

What a horrendous thing to even contemplate, let alone support. How many times has he gone on record berating the club, calling for mergers etc, Publicly smashes Clarkson after a loss, then apologises, putting it down to just venting "like a supporter". This amongst all the other garbled nonsense that comes out of his mouth these days. Sure, let's give that guy the keys.

You are kidding??? So keep Mclardy in charge.. Pft... Jeff delivers resulst. I for one couldn't give 2 shits about his personality or what he has said in the past. This club is a basket case and someone like Jeff could turn it around.

  10. This entire thread is a complete overeaction to be honest. Who cares if Francis Leech doesn't think the AFL should help us - does it really matter? He's allowed his opinion. At the end of the day his comments aren't important at all and won't have an effect on anything....

  11. The one thing that I find to be a major inconsistency in some of these arguments about Neeld losing the players etc etc, is that many of the players have come out and shown how they support Neeld and Garland even recently complimented Neeld by saying he was coaching better than ever.

To think that the reason we are still struggling is solely due to Neeld being unable to coach is just rediculous. By making such a statement it completely disregards the lack of support and strength in the footy department pre-Neeld but under Bailey, it also completely underestimates how bad the culture may have been and how much a change/shift in culture was required. Such things can not be done in a short space of time, and if you also consider what has been said by the coaches and players alike regarding the training standards of the club pre and post Neeld, it is obvious that the club faced an uphill battle just to get the players at an AFL fitness level.

I also find it unlikely that successful AFL types like Neil Craig and Dave Misson would continue in their work, given they are obviously well regarded in the league and would be sort after, if Neeld was an absolute basketcase and they felt they were wasting their time.

Just because some on here are getting annoyed that we are still losing does not mean that Neeld has gone about things the wrong way. Out of the players that have recently left the club, only Moloney and Petterd have been playing regular games. Stefan Martin is still getting injured and playing as above average athlete with below average skills. And for those criticising the game style being implemented, watch the Craig report video, and the passage of play highlighted as the way the team wants to play makes me think of teams like Sydney and St Kilda (under Ross Lyon), who constantly harass and pressure the opposition to win the ball.

All of us here are naive, myself included, about what is actually happening in the club. None of us have all the information, and to just say "sack the coach" based on perception while also disregarding relevant information is rediculous.

C'mon - what do you think the players are going to say about their coach in an interview - that he is a dud and most of the players don't respect him? Pft... Its clearly evident from our results over the last couple of years that the players don't like him or play for him. Talk is cheap.

  12. Membership numbers are supposed to grow not shrink, ours are shrinking. There are more people living in Victoria than two years ago, but instead of us picking up our share of the new settlers we are in fact giving up those we already had. No business survives unless it continues to grow, costs are up, footballers in our case earn more, staff costs are increasing and it simply costs more to run a business.

We are falling further behind and we will continue to do so until we are able to show we are capable of progressing up the ladder or at least running the club professionally.

And numbers will continue to fall as long as we are a rabble.... Time we kicked out all the people holding this club back and replace them with Professionals who are capable of moving the club forward.

  13. I know this sounds stupid, but I reckon we have an outside chance. It's at the G and the Weagles are injury depleted.

I also reckon Port and Essendon are better than people think.

And, despite our absolutely loathesome, pathetic performances thus far in season 2013, we're not actually quite as bad as people think.

Right you are - sounds stupid.

  14. Can people just forget about Gary Lyon - its doing my head in. He's not interested and the help he's given us already has resulted in 1 failed coaching experiment and another that looks destined for the toilet. The more we ask people for help that don't have the time or simply do not want to help the more desperate and silly we look. We need people who have the time to devote to the club and will do a great job, not just an ex player for name sake!

  15. Dont agree. He isn't telling them to play this way,

His main focus on the weekend was Jobe Watson. And yet within the first 10 mins he had racked up 12/13 possessions. Coaches fault? Not likely. Well, clearly he had the wrong player on Jobe. But all night Neeld was unable to curb his influence.

Our midfield set up was Jamar, NJones, Grimes and Viney for much of the evening. Yet we were slaughtered in the midfield. We don't actually have too many better options in the midfield. IN the second half Sylvia was their for 11 bounces for 2 possessions. Coaches fault?

We have to face the fact that our team is not good. Coupled with the fact they don't try anywhere near hard enough.

The CHampion data stats FWIW said our 'effort' on the weekend as defined by pressure acts was around 54% of the next worst!! That is simply unbelievable to comprehend. Coaches fault??

It's the Coach's job to make them listen. If they continually do not follow his instructions then he has a communication problem. If his speech was anything to go by I'm not surprised they are not playing for him and not following his instructions. I've heard better speech's from Under 10 coaches to be honest. Obviously our playing group is a joke but the coach needs to be getting a better response than this!
