Everyone’s favourite journo believes he is (this was dated prior to Mac extending w/ GCS):

Interesting, I would've thought we forfeited any rights to him after passing last year. Sounds like we can list him as a Cat-B rookie if everyone passes? Assume that means we can't match anyone that selects him in the national draft.

Thanks PSD. Understandable… yet it’s just as a backup here.  Gawn is still number 1.

I’m padding until we get Cooper Duff-Tytler next year. 🤣🤣👏

ps. Strangely some said Xerri would not make it. And Sweet wasn’t AFL standard.

Louis Emmett looks a star in the making as well while I wonder if Ludowyke will grow further and perhaps take some ruck duties next year for Sandy.

Daniel who? Surely not Caleb Daniel from WB.

I will cancel the membership if this is correct weight.

I was just hazarding a guess as to trades with players we've been linked to.

Speculation was that Daniel could make his way here by some in the media, previous trades for older fringe 22 players have been 3rd rounders (current or future).. I.e Billings, Hunter. Daniel fits that bill and is contracted so didn't think pick 45 was too far out of range of a possible trade scenario

@adonski stated that he is likely to stay at the dogs now anyway, not sure on source.

Phil Davis is a very thoughtful commentator. He said this on his weekly spot on Whately.

FWIW I agree with his position.

In addition I think there's no guarantee that Petracca will be playing for MFC is 2025. There's water to flow under that bridge IMO.

I've been impressed with Davis as well. Doubt he would be interested in giving up his media gig, but I would love for him to be involved at the club. Whether it be in a coaching capacity, leadership role or player management/welfare position.

1494 points is just shy to the equivalent of pick 9.

According to phantom drafts, Ashcroft will go pick 1 or 2. Let's assume it's pick 2 as most clubs who have the first pick won't bid on a player.

Pick 2 is 2517 points. With a 20% discount for father sons that will equal 2014 points.

Brisbane don't have a current second round pick as they traded it last year. Their next picks as it currently stands is 53 (233 points) and 69 (49 points).

1776 points in total after the hypothetical trade.

Technically they can go into deficit which will effect their 1st pick of 2025. I doubt the suggested trade will be enough points to satisfy Brisbane, but it's not far off.

They'll have to find a trading partner willing to put up more than we are.

Could be a few clubs willing to do that but impossible to predict prior to the trade/pick swap period.

Richmond could be the trouble maker and trump us like the doggies did last year.

If Richmond lose Graham they could end up with pick 21 and 22. They also have pick 29 as well.

    21 and 22 = 1723

    Or

    21 and 29= 1531

Both already higher than our alleged offer without later junk picks thrown in.

  6. Early days yet and sure whispers will stay filtering through about which clubs like who. But this is a genuinely fascinating draft in how even the first round appears to be. I  wouldn't be surprised if some names really elevate themselves into the top 10 or even top 5 that haven't been discussed too much.

Armstrong is the one to watch I reckon, could easily see him go top 3.

When the trade period is done I'll attempt to do a phantom.

players that the various afl medja punditry have linked us to, and away from, in the last six months:

    • ryan angwin (gw$)
    • wade derksen (gw$)
    • dan houston (pear)
    • tim membrey (aints)
    • jake waterman (meth coke)

plus we have our own various demonland threads on other players (such as matt kennedy from the baggers) but i'm yet to see anyone in the medja link us to him

Can cross a line through Angwin, re-signed for two years recently.

Hes been told his not going to be a starting inside mid, but Carl see him only playing the half fwd role that he played every game this year as. He wants to play inside mid.

Fair point, but still maintain that he won't command high compensation given he's a player in the back half of his career and been given permission to chase better opportunities (inside mid or otherwise) next year.

Just heard on SEN we’re sounding out Wade Derksen from GWS - don’t know much about him but they suggested he’s been the leading VFL goal kicker and keen to move back to Melbourne.

We've been linked to him numerous times this year it seems, probably has legs.

Our second round pick tied to Swans (38?) perhaps?

    I hope we don't touch 5 & soon to be 25

If he's been told to go elsewhere and not part of their best 22 plans then they surely can't expect a 2nd round pick, no matter how late it is.

Bulldogs 3rd at pick 50 should do if we were interested.

nah there's a fair few now

starting with the most obvious who saw the rules back-flip...jamara ugle-hagan at footscray

    other eligible players have included:

    • isaac quaynor (filth academy, matched pointed at pick 13)
    • liam henry (flagmantle, matched points at pick 9)
    • connor downie (dingley, matched points at pick 35)

    then there's also:

    • mac andrew (dees academy, selected by the suns at pick 5)
    • ryley sanders (north, drafted by footscray at pick 6)
    • nick mckenzie (aints, drafted by dingley at pick 7)
    • lance collard (meth coke, drafted by aints at pick 28)
    • mitch edwards (flagmantle, drafted by geelong at pick 32)
    • tew jiath (dingley, drafted by the filth at pick 37)
    • luamon lual (footscray, drafted at pick 39...one before the cut off...by the peptides)

i'm assuming there's more as well, but those ones are quite well known, especially mac andrew and luamon lual by dint of where they were selected - respectively, high up, and right before the cut-of where clubs could match

Toby Bedford and Andy Moniz-Wakefield are both graduates from our NGA program.
