  1. It's been a blast, 5 years guys :)  Everyone I've ever had a disagreement with or rubbed the wrong way I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise to, and everyone who's made me laugh (DA, Ethan, BBO, Biffen, rpfc) I love you guys.   This is me,  moving on.

    Adios muchachos, ladies :)

    Go you bloody demons!!

I prefer to think of true Melbourne supporters as loyal, passionate,  stoic, and resilient. Supporters that wear their loyalty as a badge of honour through thick and thin. And supporters that when success comes will be humble and proud in victory understanding that to enjoy victory we have to experience loss and defeat. Supporters that are not quick to jump on the bandwagon of criticism and derision of players and coaches.  I think the Dogs supporters are a great example.

When success comes I will not be humble about it, I shall turn into an arrogant and smarmy beast. I've waited too long for this opportunity,  I shall bathe in the salty tears of our victims and display a level of elitism rarely seen.

The thread is about Jordan Lewis so if you don't mind I'll begin my response by referring to him.

Lewis is 30 years old. He has 264 games of AFL football behind him and has played in four premierships. He is mature, a family man and handled himself with assurance and self-confidence over his decision to leave Hawthorn. I think the football world gave him great credit for this and he deserved it. Very few true Hawthorn supporters are going to argue with him about this or boo him when he runs out on the field against their team wearing a Melbourne jumper.

By contrast, Tom Scully was a mere kid at 20 on the night when the events I described took place. I don't have the slightest doubt that he wasn't being entirely open and frank with me during our conversation. I mentioned how nervous and distracted he seemed and how he often checked his mobile phone during the evening. This happened most when he was asked about the knee injury that had affected his season and about his future. I never believed for a minute his claim that he hadn't "seen any offers" and that he would sit down with his management to decide on his future after the game. That decision had been done and dusted for some time by then.

There were however, other parts of the conversations we had that night (and others were also taking part) during which the nervousness wasn't so apparent. He joked about Sam Blease having a big head, he talked about his family life and his experiences at the club including his respect for Jim Stynes. I'm prepared to accept what he said about those things as truthful. His obfuscations only came on the point of his future because he had a very good reason not to reveal the truth.

Tom Scully was about to leave Melbourne and I believe there was a single motivating factor behind the move - the money. I don't believe for a second that Stynes "hounded" him, nor do I believe he was involved in any conduct that constituted a "meaningful factor in Scully's decision to move".

I stand completely by my point of view. The conversation took place in front of others including some of his teammates and I also had discussions with people involved at the club including a Board Member that reinforce my view.

I'm not surprised however, that you were told these stories. I'm not suggesting you lied but there were clear divisions of opinion at the time and there were those who had their reasons for pushing the self-serving line they gave you. There were people who had reason to dislike Jimmy - perhaps because he led the move to push them out of power. We're all too aware of the power struggles that blighted the club, causing great damage over too long a period that thankfully has now come to an end.

I'm puzzled however, that you think I'm being naive about this - "he stated that he had not been involved in any negotiations with Melbourne or anyone else". I think the statement was correct. The negotiations were conducted by his manager with his father looming large in the background. He was a 20 year old kid who wanted to play footy and while adults did the real dirty work for him, it wasn't only the Scully camp that had unclean hands in this.

That's why in the end, I'm happy that the thread is about Jordan Lewis and I'm clear in the knowledge that the club is heading in the right direction with people of his ilk in the foreground and a lot of very positive people in the background.

    Brilliant!

Hawthorn are laughing all the way to the bank.  Hartung will never be a A-grade or B+ footballer.  Never.  Sam Mitchell is just past his prime and will retire in 1 year.  Lewis' decline will occur faster than most footballers.

When you come to the end of a dynasty, the tendency is to be ultra-loyal to your premiership heroes.  Geelong, bar Stevie J, did it, when they were forced to land a top-3 player about to enter his prime.  Brisbane kept their ageing stars, whereby Aker was forced out because he didn't conform...and there was the Bradshaw debacle for Fev.

Clarkson is a genius.  Mitchell is what 34.  In 18 months, he'll be in pasture.  But at least this 34 year old can move sideways in elite terms and has special awareness second-to-none.  Lewis is getting slower, and wasn't fast to begin with.  Hawthorn wont miss him in 12 months.  Actually, anybody that new anything about footy, came to Hawthorn's last game this year, knowing that the Bulldogs were going to treat them like wet cement.  Don't get me wrong, Hawthorn minus Hill, have our problem with less outside speed and run.  But Clarkson, if he can swindle pick 48 for an ageing one-dimensional 30 year old going on 36.....then it will be a decision that pushes them closer to their next window quicker.  The cocky eastern suburbs Hawthorn supporters may not like it in the short-term, but this strikes me as Croad mark II, so they will soon praise the decision.

    H

As I said time and time again for the last 18 months, we are too one-paced and lack line-breakers.  This trade does nothing to improve it, only enhance it.

Yeah,  laugh all the way to the bank with your hand full of silver coins..  Making out like bandits with pick 88 and a pick probably in the 60s lol

Yeah it looks like we're going to get screwed into giving a much higher pick than originally intended in order for Hawthorn to save face.

Nah if anything the spin will be he wanted out,  and all we had to deal with was what they got. They would look way worse if they're left with a disgruntled player who doesn't want to be there. Got to give us some credit too- he came to us- they can take what we can reasonably offer or lie in their bed

Well Sloon, I realise this response is too late to help you but I have to say I don't really get your problem. I have some experience in gyms but am currently banned - an unfortunate misunderstanding with lycra and traditional forms of greeting - but I digress.

I have to say that I found a workout more than sufficient - a pre-workout please explain.

Now as to the "my buzzer" matter, well that actually is what I think got me expelled. Anyway, I am clearly out of touch with current gym protocols( which is for the best I think). However any enlightenment you can provide Sloon will be appreciated.

PS If Ernie (the dead bastard) has anything to say please ignore him.

It's basically speed for gym. Gets you buzzing and you can put in a good workout. I use it for the leg press and stair master. It definitely isn't on the ASADA approved list though. It's a shame to hear you're out of touch with modern gym greeting protocol, a buzzer gets you into the gym when it's un-staffed, it's not a weapon to subdue and dominate the changerooms with.

Alas, I waited out the front in my car peaking like a tweaker waiting for someone to come to the gym and snuck in with them. It was either that or climb in through the roof. Sanity prevailed
