Are we preparing to give up our draft picks?
Pennant St Dee replied to Hampton 22's topic in Melbourne Demons
Best course of action draft/trade for today and draft/trade for tomorrow, unfortunatley we haven't done this enough over the years. Somehow work it to get Boak if we can but under no circumstances give up pick 3 or 4 for him. Pick 12 maybe play poker with GCS & GWS for Viney and worse case scenario if they call our bluff take Jack with pick 3 or 4 and another available Wines/Stringer/Toumpas and for god sake if there is another late bolter like Dustin Martin at least interview him to keep demonlanders happy. One of these kids, Viney & Boak will improve us and another pre season into our boys. Like others I think Cloke is a pipe dream and smoke and mirrors Buddy is out of contract 2013 and may be RFA -
Hunger for a second chance

I have seen plenty of Hutchings and he has been really good most weeks, looks very pacy and a gut runner at WAFL level. Seems keen to grab another chance, looks really fit for a WAFL player and could be worth rookie spot. Not sure whether I would take him or Kane Mitchell (Claremont). Freddie Clutterbuck is also playing well but think Hutchings & Mitchell are ahead of him. Luke Blackwell probably a bit old now but also a standout midfielder at WAFL level

Pavlich is in very good form over the last month so Frawley needed for him, Freo played Mcpharlin forward today but Grover looked to have picked up a concusion. Not sure if Dawson is back this week. Our midfield has been really poor and Freo do contest well to be any chance we need to break even here. Nicho to stay in and go to Ballantyne, Dunn to stay in and play as a defensive forward on either Johnson or Mundy. Mundy does not have the tank through the middle due to interupted pre season so was setting up from half back. Johnson will try and float free across haf back so needs to be made acountable The only really quick mid for Freo to worry about is Hill, does not like a close tag so either go Mckenzie or Blease to match him for speed and run off him. Couch seems to have earned his spot so maybe time for Magner to be rested. Freo are a big bodied and hard side, playing Lyons style so arm wrestle may be on the cards here. Maloney to stay in to draw Crowley and stop him going to Jones. Sellar to come into consideration depending on Chip My outs: Bail, Bennell & Magner. possibly Spencer Ins from: Gysberts, Green, Couch, Jamar, Cook & Sellar B: Mcdonald Frawley Nicholson HB: Rivers Watts Tapscott C: Blease Grimes Trengove HF: Sylvia Garland Howe F: Dunn Martin Green R: Jamar/Spencer, Jones, Gysberts I/C & EMERGENCIES: Couch, Bate, Sellar, Maloney, Davey & Cook

Casey Scorpions v Port Melbourne
Pennant St Dee replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Cheers KC Much appreciated today and every week. Good win for the boys and good to see some MFC boys stepping up from all reports -
There is just no point, so it's Craig & Neelds fault they are all duds

The fact you compare Adelaide to us on last years ladder position is not helping you. They have some gun midfielders and only 2 years ago were coming off 5-7 years consecutive finals appearances. Many experts hadthem pencilled in at the start of 2011 to do well but they didn't. As some have said we have recruited badly and yes we have but it is before Bailey came on board. It is for this reason we are taking so long to rebuild and not jumping back as quickly as Meth Coast and others have.

Play Jack Viney at Casey in '13 so we get picks 3 & 4.
Pennant St Dee replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Daniel Kerr, Keiran Jack, Sam Mitchell, Andy Krakour would all look pretty good in their as well -

Pennant St Dee replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
No way either take him or don't. Lets not stuff the kid around he is champing at the bit to play AFL this year so how do you think he would react if asked to hold off for another year -
If you were president we would have no members, you have no foresight and I'll guarantee you will have changed your user name in 12 to 18 months time for shame of embarrasment for such stupid statements

Ridicuous thread! Probably another hindsight genius who in a couple of years will be talking the two Jacks up

Trashing the AFL Brand - Yesteryear to Today
Pennant St Dee replied to dee-luded's topic in Melbourne Demons
I love the Dees and will till the day I die. Whilst I live in WA I never get to see VFL except for replays but must say things in grassroots footy in WA are on the up. Things are different here as we only have two AFL teams and getting to Subiaco Oval is almost impossible and costs a lot more than going to the "G". For this reason people are flocking back to the WAFL attendances are up this year and the league is a good standard and on their day anyone can beat anyone. I attend a game every week and my kids love it, I speak with others at the footy who also say the same, the kids love being able to run around on the grass banks chase the balls behind the goals and have a kick on the ground at quarter, half and three quarter time. Not to mention for as long as they like after the game while dad has a beer and a chat. Families are realising kids hate having to sit in a seat at Subi for 2 and a half hours without being able to move, Meth Coast supporters are the most uneducated and one eyed front running supporters going around and it's hard work taking your kids to watch them, especially when they are wearing opposition colours. Dockers supporters are a bit better they were brought up on the East v South Freo derbies and have some football smarts. Both WA based AFL clubs have tried to flex their muscles this year demanding to put their own stand alone reserves into the WAFL, it would be the death nell for WAFL. The WAFL in the last 3 to 4 years has got itself back on it's feet but the AFL clubs have tried to bully and create wedges between them. All 9 WAFL clubs have stood up to the big boys and even as late as this week have told the AFL clubs they can keep their players next year. Meth Coast and Freo are wanting to keep their players out of WAFL for the first 6 weeks of the season. IMO the AFL needs to have a reserves competition, they have the money to pay for it and those of us old enough to remember how good it used to to see reserves doing well knowing they would step up in the next couple of years to strengthen the league side http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/breaking/14091049/keep-your-afl-leftovers/ Whilst doing this the fat controller needs to realise its the fans and grassroot people who make this game and they need to pour plenty of funds into country, local, VFL, SANFL & WAFL. Another idea I would like to see come in to stregthen grassroots footy is the increasing of the draft age to 20 years or 50 to 75 games at VFL/WAFL/SANFL. To many unproven kids are getting drafted on what they may be and we also hear the argument of footballers getting injured career ending and having nothing to fall back on. Get them to play 3/4 years at local level whilst completing apprenticeships, finishing uni and/or other courses to give them something to fall back on. We may also see boys coming into AFL with an appreciation of how hard life is for the ordinary worker and when they are given the chance at AFL level they realise it'something they don't wish to give up easy! Also sees boys coming in ready and allows for late developers who weren't stars at schoolboy level. -
Good point and something we need to be very careful about with all the current Boak, Cloke & Beams talk. The Cats great team of recent years only had Ottens who was traded in, Meth Coast refuse to give up early picks and it is something they have done since the 90's. So whilst I'm happy we got Mitch Clark, not sure about overstretching ourselves chasing other big money players. Especially since we will have 3 picks in the first round of this years draft. Can't see Neeld going for anymore skinny 3/4 year project players so would expect if we pick well and add another hard preseason into what we have, namely Trenners, Watts, Gysberts, Cook, Mcdonald, Taggert, Tapscott, Howe, Tynan, Magner things could turn around as early as mid 2013. Not saying we will see these players turn into superstars but we start to see depth which is what has helped the Pies, Meth Coast cover injuries and also seen the bluebaggers struggle

2012 Draft ... #3 Jack Viney, then pick 4 ??
Pennant St Dee replied to jurrahcane's topic in Melbourne Demons
Only if he comes without the excess baggage, namely his father! -
It's posts like this which make these change threads a bit of a waste of time Are you serious Dunn & Bate were both very good last week and Mcdonald is hard at it, thats what Neeld likes in players. Lets not suggest in's and outs on agenda's

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 13
Pennant St Dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6) Jones - Once again 4 quarter effort works really hard and gets the rewards only injury will prevent him taking Bluey this year 5) Watts - Very classy performance showed polish and composure starting to look at home across half back 4) Bate - Played well for 4 quarters and ran away from a couple of GWS kids on a few occassions something I have not seen Bater do for 6 years 3) Tom Mac - Big plus for the season and played with some arrogance, look he relished taking on the number 1 draft pick 2) Dunn - Much maligned by demonlanders but was polished all day and to strong for the GWS boys 1) This was really difficult but have gone for Sylvia who looked to have got some fitness back Good afforts also by Jordie Mac, Sellar, Rivers, Garland & the Captain Jacks. -
He's not talking about trading them he's is saying that is where the development IHO will come from

+ 1 Junior was a great servant and I'm sure if he still had his way and we saw the ramifications of what it did to our leadership the 23 would still be running around. As for Judd Meth Coast made him captain, (which he accepted reluctantly) as they felt it would prevent him moving before he served out another contract. He was a great servant who on his departure also made sure they were well looked after with compensation which got them pick 3 and Josh Kennedy. Carlton had pick 2 in the 2008 Pre season draft and Richmond (with pick 1) would not have out bid the Blues so Juddy could have really walked out and ended up at Carlton if he really wanted to screw the Eagles
