Can we not just celebrate the Leadership team for what it is and let it evolve? Why continue to despair about history and all of the mistakes which 'in hindsight' are so clearly comprehendable? Is Viney too young? Will the same fate befall him and with the weight of expectation of being a 'leader' he'll fail? No, because he's a fecking unit who lets his footy do the talking. Grimes is not that and probably never will be but for crying out loud, who else during that period was even capable? We didn't have what we have now so saying it was a bad decision by the CEO, FD etc at the time is completely ignoring relativity to time, place and circumstance.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
McQueen replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Indeed. -
To avoid starting another thread, the article on the AFL website is a reminder that several clubs are sniffing out Hurleys manager. http://m.afl.com.au/news/2016-03-10/i-want-my-banned-bombers-back-worsfold Shite I hope we're one of them.

Viney said as much in his interview: He was adamant he wants to be a “game day performer”. “I want to lead by my actions on game day and that’s my number one focus and what I think’s extremely important,” he said.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ALEX NEAL-BULLEN

I agree. It's ANB and Mitch White who we've not heard any reasoning for their absences. The rest are pretty well explainable. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ALEX NEAL-BULLEN
McQueen replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Has anyone got mail on what's happening with ANB? Nothing mentioned via the club as to whether he's injured. Hasn't featured in the first two NAB matches and not named in the third. Training reports have him rated reasonably for a developing 2nd year player. A bit of a mystery...? -
I doubt Dunn opted out of the nomination process considering he was quite adamant that it was something he had been working on improving in the lead up to his VC appt. I'd be willing to put it down to how the team culture has developed particularly over the past 12 months but mainly the off-season. Leading Teams process would need to remain fluid and move with the team dynamics with regards new standards, player development and how they meet and or exceed those new standards. I reckon Dunny has been left in the wake of the other group members.

Given the club uses the Leading Teams process to select leaders, the omission of Dunn says quite a bit. His peers don't rate him against the criteria. Simple.

Reasonably priced as well. -
How dare you post nothing after all of this time waiting! I opened this thread like a seagull hits a chip.

Watts wants to stay but will explore free agency.
McQueen replied to Bombay Airconditioning's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why it's taken the club this long to play him as a forward is almost unfathomable. -
Watts wants to stay but will explore free agency.
McQueen replied to Bombay Airconditioning's topic in Melbourne Demons
The intent he's showed in the first two practice games is a minimum benchmark for Watts. I think he'll have a cracker year, re-sign and ultimately be a one club player. -
No doubt you see more at the game but even his endeavour appeared to be lacking. Obviously I'm happy to be proven wrong and he can become a handy player but as Clint said there's blokes who played games last ear who aren't getting a look in for one reason or another.

Hunt showed nothing today to suggest he's a capable league player. He had an opportunity in the last qtr to show his dash when the back flank but instead handballs over the Skips head. If his speed is a weapon, why isn't he using it?
-
The only highlight of the qtr.

I know we've been playing very ordinary but....

Frost hardly convinced last week and people still have hearts in mouths when Tom takes the game on out of half back. Cant remember what game it was last year but Hogan was being well held and we threw Tom forward and he immediately started marking the ball and having shots on goal. It's a practice game, let him practice.

Mitch Clark - did we dodge a bullet?
McQueen replied to thesleepinggiant's topic in Melbourne Demons
At the moment, Collingwood have clearly had the most value from that trade with Varcoe playing some very good football. If Lumumba manages to get back to a high level of fitness I believe he can offer us some of that great attacking drive out of defence. Clark when up and going is a very good forward but he's body is shot, playing just 23 games over the last three years. Leigh Matthews said that the Pies would get greater value out of Ben Hudson than what Melbourne would from Clarke and we all laughed at him. As we now know, Matthews might've been addressing his character more than his footballing ability. -
I wouldn't be surprised if Tmac is thrown forward today with Hogan not playing.

Shocking. Life is short enough as it is. Reminds you of making every day count when things like this occur. RIP

I think having Jones and Vince on ball will add a significant difference to our clearance rate - particularly effectiveness.
